Absolutely giddy reading this. So glad he thinks he's underachieving. Sounds like more than a few are hungry. That's a good thing. Going to create quite the competition at WR. Spring game is going to be fun. Spot that dadgum ball. Going to be exciting watching the 24 class come together this summer.

Physically, as a WR, reminds me an awful lot of Nuk Hopkins.

Roughly the same size, maybe an inch or two shorter, very similar build; tough, great hands, quick feet, and always gets open. Nuk certainly had the respect and conficence of his team mates, but don't know how vocal he was as a leader, so love to see Williams taking on that role.

A.Williams is unique as far as being a ‘synergy’ WR stud

It’s hard for me to closely compare Williams to any other previous Clemson WR, but he shares characteristics which are like some of those of Nuk, and others of which remind me of Renfrow.

Hopkins was such a physical brute, despite his modest size. Williams isn’t likely to pull that off, but who among the medium size receivers anywhere can match Hopkins’ physical play?

Williams is not super fast. Hopkins was not especially fast. Renfrow was not super fast. All are fast enough, but not Sammy or Amari fast.

Hopkins ran great routes, smooth, but was not so quick as to break the ankles of DBs. Renfrow was a true ankle breaker. Hard to find anyone anywhere that can break ankles like Renfrow. Williams is smoother than either Nuk or Renfrow.

Williams has excellent hands. Not quite like Renfrow’s hands yet, but I expect Williams to reduce his (already low) number of drops as he continues to develop. (Nobody on the planet possesses the combination of hands, catch radius, or contested-balls catch ability of Nuk.) Williams might just be the best as far as combo of smoothness that deceives DBs about his ability to hit breaks with lightening speed.

As I think about it, I can’t think of any Clemson receiver who reminds me as being super close to one from our past. Williams is a true synergy guy that combines a variety of very good, but not singularly spectacular, individual attributes to converge into a true stud muffin of a WR.

The most similar WR to Williams I can think of offhand is Jarvis Landry.

You are really high an A. Williams!

Saying he runs smoother routes that two of the best route runners in the NFL is a bold statement.

If I am looking at total package, I would equate A. Williams to Ray Ray McCloud but with better hands.

Ray Ray had a knack for getting open on the underneath routes. Ray Ray ran like a slender RB on screens and in open field and I think Williams shares that trait. They can make people miss and while not able to run with muscle, they aren't looking for a soft spot to land when someone gets close. He was a strong punt returner (except the hands part). Even though he wasn't blazing fast he found ways to get behind DBs like Williams did a few times last season for deep passes.

I think the reason more people don't see this comparison is because Williams was asked to be the #1 or #2 guy as a freshman and we had a stable of WRs when McCloud was a freshman and sophomore.

One comparison that does make sense is that Williams spent a year with DJ while McCloud spent a year with K. Bryant. In both cases the WRs could have had much better years with a more dependable QB that could get them the ball down the field. In those seasons both WRs were stuck with far too many 0-5 yd routes because they tried to help the QB get completions.

As mentioned above, there place where they differ is that Williams seems to be much more dependable at catching the ball, even though he did show a tendency to fumble sometimes this season which was a lot like McCloud during his time at Clemson and in the NFL.

While Williams is expected to be much more of a focal point of the offense as a sophomore than McCloud was, I'm hoping he can work with the QB as McCloud did with Deshaun early in his career for the QB to help him show his talents at all levels of the field.

death, so I tried to take preventive measures:

Roughly the same size, maybe an inch or two shorter, very similar build;

Junior year roster lists Nuk @ 6-1, 200 lbs.

So yes ROUGHLY the same size. Absolutely.

Maybe and inch or two shorter. Check.

Very similar build. Definitely. Both on the medium/slender side as opposed to being powerfully built.

6-1, 200 vs. 5-11 190. Two inches in height, and 10 lbs difference in weight. similar slender build. So yes, very similar, physically.

I don't think he underachieved as he may think bc it makes a huge difference when you have an accurate QB throwing the ball all over the field and getting the ball in the same zip code of his receiver's, or where they were supposed to be when the QB releases the ball. DJ really struggled with his accuracy, and that was strange bc when he was the backup to TL16, he was putting the ball where it needed to be.

I believe that if Oregon St. has a good QB coach, we will see a much better DJ than what we saw when he became the starter and was working with Streeter every day. Yep, that's what I'm saying, I think Streeter screwed DJ's machanics up, and it caused him to be target blind, and he hated to have to throw the ball down field. If anybody noticed, Trevor was a better QB during his freshman year, or that's the way it looked to me, and DW4 just did it his way, and he didn't pay Streeter's QB coaching any attention....

He had a very underwhelming year. Hopefully he improves and capitalizes on year two.

He is a stud! Not sure how Grisham didn’t see this in the first place and offer Antonio from day 1. Glad he wasn’t bitter and chose to play at Clemson. Hate to see how our season would have been without him. Really excited to see what he can do next season in Riley’s offense.
