Respect Dabo, but Turner does not…

have a chance to be the best Safety during his tenure as head coach. Especially since he’s had guys like K’Von Wallace, TJ Green, etc…

Nolan Turner is better than Isaiah Simmons & Terry Kinard who were 1st team All-Americans and 1st round draft picks? The hyperbole is curious but par for the course in pre-season …

With CVB's aggressive defensive scheme it leaves the CB's on an island and requires fast athletic Safeties who can assist with over the top coverage. Last season our lack of athleticism, at the safety position, was exposed. Need to recruit faster and more athletic for this position. Hopefully 2022 recruits Saab and Covid are a start. Who knows...maybe the Friends and Family Plan might just work out at coaching and selecting players at the safety position.

Tyler Venables had a great freshman year

Aug 6, 2021, 1:50 PM

Tyler is the exception to the rule when you talk about coaches sons playing. He helped out last year when we were thin & need somebody who knew the position.

He made mistakes but Brent wouldn’t have played him if he wasn’t the best he had at the time. Tyler is going to be a great play as he grows.

He was ranked as Daniel’s career passing yardage leader with 6,927 yards … totaled 73 touchdown passes and 38 rushing touchdowns in three years as a quarterback … helped Daniel to an 11-1 record and the third round of the state playoffs as starting quarterback in 2019 … set school record for passing yards in a season with 3,281 as a senior, completing 253-of-374 passes … posted four straight 300-yard passing games at three straight five-touchdown games at various points … recorded 48 combined touchdowns rushing and passing … was also starter on defense, contributing 75 tackles, seven tackles for loss and four interceptions in 2019 … named all-state as a defensive back in 2019 … named Offensive Player of the Year for the region and was a first-team all-region honoree … Mr. Football nominee in the state of South Carolina

This was a surprise recruit for sure.

The only reason Tyler Venables has a scholarship here is because his daddy is the DC. His other offers are from Wake Forrest, Coastal Carolina, Jacksonville State, and Nevada.

Will he be serviceable against most ACC competition? Sure. However, if this kid gets significant starting time in a playoff game we're in big trouble.

This group worries me going into this season. Go back and watch the Ohio State game. Hopefully they will improve. If the D line is as good as we think they will be then the back 7 should be better.
