May 1st is the deadline for a player to commit and sign and be available to play that season. After May 1 they have to wait til following season.

Thank you again Dabo. Because of the portal, numbers are a moving target and will remain that way until something else changes with the rules.

I am glad Clemson is considering the portal. But the Portal and NIL are killing college football. No longer do we have amateurs in college football. But it is worse than that. We are feeding the instant gratification plaque in our society. Even the NFL has multi-year contracts. Not so in college football. It is time to allow 18 years olds to play in the NFL --- go, please. Let the NFL train their own players and stop using college football as a minor league system.

Why don't we do like MLB and have mid season trades? May as well. If one team not doing so well 3/4 way down the stretch, they can loan a few stars to another team that's on a possible Natty run. May as well do it. It's about that stupid now already.

No joke - critical needs to fill. As of now if we played a new season with what we have now and have injuries like this year we would be lucky to have enough walk-ons to play a game. We got the guys that cam compete with anyone - just 12 of them instead of 22 and that makes a huge difference over time. I understand Dabo's philosophy on the Portal and don't like it but it is here to stay so we have to adapt to use it and use it well if we are going to remain an elite program. There is no more loyalty amongst the players so the coaches have to be the same. NCAA football is now a junior NFL so the only way to survive is to adapt the "what have you done for me lately" attitude - you have to always be looking to improve at every position and it doesn't matter where that comes from. I don't like it but it is adapt if you want to survive... It's now all about the money - just ask Deon - and no need to hide it anymore. Sorry to be cynical but the sport us old-timers knew no longer exists.

Can anyone explain the number of scholarship players we currently have (counting the twelve commitments) and the target we would optimally try to achieve? I assumed we are shooting for 85 but I have a recently graduated D1 player telling me there will be a temporary waiver to allow teams to carry 93 next year. Can anyone confirm or deny and give an idea of how tall the mountain is to get to a "full" roster of D1 players (as opposed to assigning scholarships to current walk ons). Thanks for any insight.
