"Shades of things to come... Jarvis Green". Come be great Jarvis. Someone was sleep at the wheel not getting you an offer before now. Glad we finally opened our eyes. Looking at you CJ.

always, I sure hope that you're right with this one bc with most recruits, the first thing I want to see is who has offered them besides us. Not every time, but a lot of times it's a decent indicator if they have received an offer from the bigger power 5 programs. From the 24 offers that this kid has,

VT, Wake, Coots, and Clemson are the biggest power 5 schools that has offered. I hope that Majic feel Dabo has about recruits at times is right with this one bc, I hate seeing our guys entering the portal just a couple of seasons after they have signed with us, and right now, there isn't a bunch of coaching experience within our coaching staff....

There are several 4 star in the portal. Why waste a scholarship? There’s like a 1k or more looking for a new home. Why, why aren’t we looking to upgrade?

Re: TNET: Talented instate RB receives coveted Clemson offer from head coach Dabo Swinney

Dec 10, 2022, 7:29 PM

When you take someone for the scholarship you’re giving them a scholarship? So it’s the same as offering a new recruit?? The reality of the portal is that most guys in there are there for a reason? There hasn’t been one player that left Clemson that one could point to and say “wow, if only he’d have stayed here we’d have done…..” not one guy has left Clemson and gone on to do anything that reflects poorly on Dabo losing them. Kendrick won a title at UGA, but be honest he was the weakest link in their secondary and if you’d have removed him from that squad would it have really mattered?? Who else?? People need to stop woth the portal. How many players did alabama sign from the portal? Let’s see they rented the best WR from UGA, the best RB in the portal from GT, the best LB and where are they? The sugar bowl against Kansas State? I do agree that there are times looking into the portal isn’t a bad idea, but using the portal as a steady way to build your roster won’t work. Dabo has taken a beating for his comments on the portal and his lack of using the portal but Dabo has been proven right on things he’s said and things he’s done far more than he’s been wrong lately so I’ll stick with the guy who actually knows what he’s doing. Not the opinions of second guessing arm chair QB who know very little.

I was thinking about the ETN comparison myself. ETN was a late offer. I think that LSU may have offered, but I do not think they were enthusiastic. Green seems to have that break away speed, but he is tough to bring down and elusive, similar to ETN. High school football in SC may not be equal to GA or FL, but the upper eschelon is good, and Green's number in the championship game are remarkable. In his films, there were several times when the DB appeared to have the angle on him, but he got into the endzone. I think this may be another Dabo hat trick, pulling out a great one that others have overlooked.

While I agree with your assessment, I give Zero credit to Dabo for "pulling a hat trick ". He should have had an offer after last season. I know for a fact Williams was in his ear (Dabo). Williams turned out pretty good. Several posters on here been screaming to give this guy an opportunity.

Jarvis has been balling since his sophomore year. And he's a pretty darn good receiver. Probably better receiver than etn when in high school. Not a bad punt returner either. Oh, and BTW- he's only fumbled 3 times in over 625 touches since he was a sophomore. Once per year.

He has not committed yet. So hopefully no one else comes in with some good NIL money! Everyone is just assuming right now. When Clemson offers usually more follow. I hope he does sign, because he looks the part to be great but let’s get the commitment first!

Just shocked at the continue Dabo hating going on here.

There's never been such an extended period of excellent football at Clemson before Dabo's arrival.

But yet TNet is full of 'fans' that bash even when he does something that the 'fans' like.

Never seen anything like this (Clemson FB being so good, and so many fans that don't appreciate it).

I learned long ago that there is an element of Clemson fans who come off as obnoxiously insane in their expectations and head coach hating ways. It’s absurd, but that’s just my opinion. If Dabo ever gets fed up with it all, or the crazies actually run him off, Clemson football will regress by at least a decade and a half.

I don't know any elite program he would go to that would not have the same element or worse. Success breeds contempt and always will. He gets 11M a year to put up with it so somehow, I doubt it really bothers him that much.

He's a good choice from a 5A school. Jordan Louie is a 3 star from a school with 7 A's from the Atlanta area. 6' 200lbs and extremely fast braking tackles like crazy. He decommitted from WVU. Why hasn't he been offered>

Did Green attend Dabo’s summer camps? It just seems like he would have been on their radar, one way or another. Usually the staff lets a kid know he’s on the offer board awaiting other players decision. In this case it sounds like he was left in the dark. Very strange.

Most HS kids are not fully developed by the time that they start their senior year.

Some blossom rapidly as their senior season progresses; some don't get better; some only get better after their HS careers come to an end.

Ever wonder why there are so many Portal transfers from small FB schools like Harvard and FBS schools? It's because those smaller FB schools offer scholarships to OK HS players, and some of those guys don't blossom until they get a year (or two) in college.

It seems like Green's development did not become obvious until the end of this past HS season.

Why else is it that no other big FB school had offered him before his big (recent) game? Are Bama and Illinois and Mississippi stupid and all the rest of them stupid?

3 star with only a couple P5 school offers. So we see something not many other P5 schools see. We do pretty good at running back recruitment so let’s hope this is another “diamond in the rough”!

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

We haven't had a RB committ in a couple of years

Dec 10, 2022, 10:03 AM

other than a legacy that doesn't play. Most D1 schools have 5 or 6 RB, we have 2 or 3 right now.

RB recruiting has been really bad the last couple of years

Dec 10, 2022, 10:09 AM

It's bafflingly bad for a school with our name recognition.

Not really, besides shipley we haven’t gotten a very highly ranked RB in a long time. I mean we got Bowman but didn’t wanna sit behind ETN. Unlike other positions Clemson hasn’t really been a RB factory because our offensive style doesn’t require it. Sleep on Jarvis all you want there’s not many 5 stars I would want over him the kid is a winner

Tommy Knotts and I started in Charlotte Meck schools in mid 70’s. From the start he had “it”. Watched his post game after their win and he flat out said where are Shane and Dabo on this kid? Tommy has always shot straight. Glad we offered. I love when our staff helps the 3’a and such have great careers. Hope he accepts.

Yet another kid who says Clemson is his "DREAM SCHOOL".

Dec 10, 2022, 10:44 AM

And yet, when he gets the offer from said DREAM SCHOOL, he still plays it cagey and says he must narrow down his options. His DREAMS must not be all they're cracked up to be?

I know all that BS is NIL driven, and just another reason why I hate NIL. Collectives flash some money in front of an 18 year old kid, and that kid has absolutely NO IDEA of just how short a time that money will last in the real world. And yet, that money may influence a bad decision that will affect them for the rest of their lives. It is a sad situation all around.

Re: Yet another kid who says Clemson is his "DREAM SCHOOL".

Dec 10, 2022, 10:49 AM

^^^ POTD ^^^

Isn't that the same thing that happened last year??? We thought we had a kid who had few, if any offers until we offered. Then uga swooped in with $$$ and he committed to them. It is sad.

2024 orange level member flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

You two nailed it ...

Dec 10, 2022, 1:04 PM

Clemson largely has an opportunity to recruit the RB's and OL that UGA and BAMA do not want. This puts a premium on Clemson's ability to recruit and play a better QB and WR's in order to compete in the playoffs. When the $100M per year TV money begins to roll in to uSC, all SEC and B1G schools, with 12 teams in the playoffs, Clemson will have a great shot at a ticket but winning will be even more challenging. This is where we are.

Re: Yet another kid who says Clemson is his "DREAM SCHOOL".

Dec 10, 2022, 2:28 PM [ in reply to Re: Yet another kid who says Clemson is his "DREAM SCHOOL". ]

You are correct, and that's what I'm waiting on, to see who offers since Clemson has. I know that when we were showing up and competing in the playoffs, and the National Championship games for 6 consecutive seasons, a lot of the bigger power 5 schools was offering about every kid that we offered, with Bama being the exception, Saban and Dabo has always done their own thing regardless of what most others do, especially when it comes to recruiting the type of players they go after.

What I find interesting is how Clemson's recruiting aspirations are slowly declining. The Athletic haa\s a story today on the remaining 5 star athletes who have not yet committed, including DJ's brother. The article lists the schools all 10 are considering and Clemson is no where to be found. South Carolina is strongly in the hunt for one of the 10. This Clemson offer to a 3 star is the second I can recall in the past 2-3 weeks. He may be a great pickup, and is probably a really good person so a plus in the locker room. Of course the star ratings don't necessarily work out, and DJ is proof of that. However, it appears Clemson is not ringing the bells for top notch high school players as loudly as before. That is what happens following two less than top-of-the-heap seasons.

Less than “top of the heap season?” Seriously? Clemson has won 21 games in two seasons, as well as a conference title and an Orange Bowl birth. A win over Tennessee probably means a Top 5 finish.

Gamecock board has been upset because Beamer hasn’t offered this kid yet.. they were talking about it before Clemson ever offered. Must be a great player if so many fans who have seen him play want him. I haven’t seen the kid play in person and stars aren’t everything so I’ll hold my criticism
