With all the injuries and the 2-2 start, I was convinced we were finishing 6-6.
Overachieving is undoubtedly true. We beat Wake Forest and South Carolina with freshmen skill players + Will Swinney, and a mediocre offensive line.

Mediocre offensive line is actually a compliment, IMHO.
I'm sure I'll get grief for that quip, but it's true.
However, continually amazed as to how Dabo finds true ways to motivate and challenge his team, and I do truly believe the rough patch of last season will serve us well in the long run. Go Tigers!

Don't tell that to the boards #1 Brownell supporter. He was posting almost on a daily basis how the football program underachieved in 2021.

Because they did. They were the 4th most talented roster in the nation, only played one other team in the top 15, and were still like 5 plays away from being 4-8. Last year's team absolutely underachieved.

Did this article come across in Japanese to you? Like Bill stated below the wheels could've really come off but didn't. Why did they not come off....because given the circumstances this team overachieved.

Nope. Read it in plain english. It's just coach speak. This team had more 5* players than the rest of the conference combined and were 5-6 plays away from a losing season. That's not overachieving.

Many of those injuries occurred in the latter part of the season.

They don’t explain the poor start to the season.
Great job by the coaches and players to regroup and persevere when the season’s goals were lost and it would’ve been easy to mail it in.
I still don’t see how anyone can rationalize that we overachieved last year though. That’s just ridiculous.

the best program, of any sort of any period ever, down to the VASTLY UNDERACHIEVING level that is the Brad Brownell era in basketball.
You try so hard yet don't realize you're contradictory in your contrived efforts.
"Great job by the coaches and players to regroup and persevere.."
We had a QB who crapped the bed on the big stage, followed closely by accumulating injuries. So yes, GREAT JOB by the coaches.
That's all that needed to be said. They adapted and adjusted and got every single ounce of winning out of this team in spite of all the near devastating developments.
That in a nutshell is overachieving. You said it yourself but apparently in your trolling desire to drag the university's most successful program down to the truly underachieving status of the Brownell program you missed your point.
I like Brad. I really do. But let's be honest, if he suffered injuries and attrition and a rough start like the football program, then he'd collapse like a wet noodle. As it was we once again missed the postseason with one of the deepest, most talented rosters of the Brownell era.
You're annoying. You're not close to being right about this and obviously don't know anything about the sport of football.

You obviously don't know very much at all about football. Stop trying to drag the most successful program in Clemson history down to your level.

did you forget we played without 20 scholarship players a good portion of last year?
All things considered we absolutely overachieved. It would have been easy to quit when hit with adversity and sitting at 4-3, but they didn't.
Excellent coaching job to hold these guys together and great job players for never quitting.

Everything you posted was a sound 100% realistic account of the situation & a good portion indisputable statements of fact but to the sizable kool-aid guzzling, Jim Jones crowd here on tigernet, your words were blasphemous trickery, hate speech, evil bewitched word spells. So go ahead and explain it to them but you cant understand it for them, the certifiable. Lost to Pitt and NC State, who if you combined both rosters, we'd still enjoy a sizable talent advantage. We were repeatedly taken down to the wire by teams we should have been up 30 on-

Dabo will be a Hall of Fame coach and knows more than the wanna be fans who yelled about last year. DJ has more experience now, Ship should be well and we got good news on Randall so if we can stop the injuries we can have a chance with our weak schedule to get back to Charlotte.

Yeah and 2021 was some of the better coaching I have seen.
It is one thing running downhill with the best WR stable, best QB, best RB.
Those wheel came off last year, got smacked around but the coached kept them in the game, all in for the season. Sure, it was not a title run year but they still found a way for a good season.
If that was Tommy, it would have been a 6-6 season... with a loss to Wake

the wheels could have come off!
On the other hand, we could have gone undefeated with some better (QB and WR & Oline play; the D did their job overall) but then we would have probably been smacked "again" in the CFP since we would have been delusional in our undefeated record.

We could have gone undefeated with better QB, WR AND OL play... but it's not like we had better players on the sidelines. 10 wins wa a great accomplishment.

By program standards, I definitely agree.
By the Bag O Dyicks we had to manage specifically last season, I do feel like our program was able to use its foundation to avoid a total collapse.
The real trick is to continually acknowledge our areas/personnel of weakness and not get complacent.

Reframe history/the season/the game/the situation to a more favorable and motivational outcome. That is coach speak as one poster stated. In likewise fashion, Saban is also dissatisfied with Bama's "underachieving" season and is using it for motivational purposes to get back on top.

You can really only say that we overachieved for the year if you ignore the #### poor play at the beginning. In the beginning we were not short 20 scholarship players and we stunk it up. It's a credit to those young men that they hung in, persevered, and salvaged a season that had few people thinking 10 wins halfway through.
The ones saying they overachieved are correct. They did the 2nd half. The ones that said they underachieved are correct. They did the first half. If you take the season as a whole it was so-so.
Regardless, this is a new team. We know that they have the mental toughness to remain All In even when falling short of their biggest goals was a foregone conclusion. That bodes well for next year, but everybody is optimistic in the Spring. I hate to wish my life away, but I am looking forward to 5 months from now when we find the answer.

I think we also saw the worst coaching of the Dabo era last year.

Despite all the problems and issues, if Kelly Bryant had been QB I sincerely believe we would’ve been 13–0 and in the playoffs. Still would’ve lost to Georgia or Alabama because both were significantly better at the end of the season, but with our talent advantage over the rest of the ACC there’s no excuse for losing those games. And I think with KB we beat Georgia in the opener.
