They've done a good job, but I'd probably still have to grade them a "B" Go Tigers!!!

I agree with B. My only complaint so far is trying to run up the middle over and over and over and over. Our OL obviously aren't capable of opening holes up the middle yet so why keep doing it? Yes there have been a couple of plays that worked but especially in the redzone. Good grief, three tries up the middle and a field goal is frustrating to watch. Other than that I have been pleasantly surprised with the new coordinators and they seem to be getting better each week.

I agree with your post, but I'll add one more thing that I don't remember seeing work, and that's that long developing pass to the sideline that yields zero yards and is a "pick six" waiting to happen. A quick Corner who studies film will make us pay, I'm afraid. I do think more TE passes open up several more great opportunities with the other receivers, and RB's, and I hope that happens. JMO

There IS a lot of factors most of us don't even think about that Dabo sees on a daily basis. I'll take his word on that!

The coach's job is to make sure the players make as few of mistakes as possible on gameday through preparation. It will never be 100%, but there has to be some accountability on the coaches to properly recruit and prepare the players so that they can successfully execute the plays they call.
If you call great plays but Ngata and Collins keep dropping the passes, is that solely on the players or should the coaches shoulder much of the blame?

I definitely prefer Streeter's play-calling to Elliot. I always felt we kind of won in spite of Elliot's unimaginative play-calling. For me, the jury is still out on Goodwin, although I have to say I was quite impressed with the improvements against the screen in the Nancy State game. He may win me over.

That was kind of my thoughts. The offense seems to have stepped it up when it needed to. I have liked the play calling a lot more the last couple of weeks, which leads me to think it was there the whole time. There just wasn't a need for Streeter to show his hand.
It's really tough for me to think that Goodwin has earned an A to this point. One of the wins was 90% on the backs of the offense. We won, but I don't know if you can say there was ever a successful adjustment. The line made a couple of key plays on Wake's last drive in regulation, and the DB's didn't have to worry about the receivers running by them as much on a short field in overtime.
Goodwin's grade thus far is based on 3 quizzes and 2 tests. One of the tests he bombed. It doesn't mean that he doesn't end up with an A after finals when he has had an opportunity to diminish the importance of the one test, but I just don't see it so far.

The defense against screen passes somewhat reminded me of the correction against shovel pass. The d-line that overran screen plays against WF and La Tech was able to not only put on the brakes but deny the screen almost completely.

transition between Chad Morris and the Jeff and Tony team. Chad repeatedly and obsessingly required Cole Stoudt to do things he could not do. Last year such demands were put on DJ. This season, though DJ has drastically improved his assignments are more practical and seem, for the most part, to be well within his abilities.
The last game we saw him do things which seemed impossible for him just three games ago.

That is a no brainer because last year we were 3-2 after 5 games and this year we are 5-0. Enough said.

I'm like a few others in this; I think a B thus far is a pretty fair grade. That said I truly think the whole Ella passing REALLY hurt our boys, especially the DLine. Let's keep in mind, pretty short week against Wake with all that was happening. Not making excuses but.. well Humans! The other piece is injuries to the back end. I mean, we lost a highly experienced safety to retirement before the season kicked off, then attrition ever since in what was out youngest group. Do yeah, I think Wes is doing pretty well so far when factoring all that in plus having to be "The Guy".
As for Streeter, he would look a whole lot smarter if our O Line could run block even a little and our non freshman WRs stop playing hot potato with the ball. A huge part of that imo is toughness. The last three years they want a PI Flag on EVERYTHING. Umm Mike Williams would have turned around, fought through the contact, CAUGHT the ball and then ignored the flag. I'm not blaming it on coaching, but something has clearly changed. Other than A. Williams I have yet to see a WR with Dog in them. Go Tigers

Where it was 3 years ago. We were pretty darn spoiled, but this group is starting to show signs of improvement. I think a lot of the improvement goes back to DJ and the OL. More time for DJ means more time to get open and DJ has clearly worked on throwing with the right touch for the situation.

I do see more "touch" on his throws, and I think it has helped with his/our performance. The results speak for themselves.

The more Streeter uses the two TEs the smarter he will look.
Wes is doing fine with as many pieces he has been missing. Give him a healthy D-Line for a week and then we can grade him.

Kyle Richardson = A+. His TE room should be applauded. I knew Kyle would go places, when he was at Northwestern HS in Rock Hill.

I'd like to see Goodwin field a healthy defense with all the starters in place before we give Goodwin a grade. My gut tells me not having his starters in the defensive backfield, D Line and not having XT on the field has hurt. A lot.

We obviously still have work to do on both sides of the ball QB A- RB A OL B- WR B TE A Overall B+ ( can't hand out A's like they're candy )
DE B- DT A- CB B_ S B+ LB A
Overall B
We have time to make As across the board. Injuries of course factor into the equation and having everybody healthy simultaneously would make an immediate impact. They are however part of the game and the real challenge is to attain that A with our backups playing too. No drop off We see our D line do it. That should translate to rest of the team. No drop off in our run game too. Secondary obviously is where we need the most work. Our talented QB's. Probably the best group of QB's in any league. That needs to be taken into account as well. But we can't have a weak link if we want to feel good going into championship games , which as the season progresses and we remain undefeated every game becomes. We will get there. This team is special.

I think Wes is doing a good job considering this is his first go round sand he hasn't had his starters yet. Dealing with a very young secondary, linebackers that are learning on the fly, and a d-line that has had a lot of injuries, I can't wait to see how they will do at full strength.
The offense is getting better as DJ and the young receivers get more comfortable with the new OC. I like that we are using the tightends more in the passing game, and I think we need to run the ball more. Shipley does need much of a hole, and Mafah makes his own hole.

2 weeks ago he called out the D but the OC gets an A.

Of course Dabo must say that his coordinators have earned A's so far. But it was only a couple weeks ago that Dabo called out the D that Goodwin runs. And I think there's consensus that Goodwin was late in getting safety-help to the beleaguered CBs vs Wake. The coordinators might deserve an A for NCSU, but not the season-- especially Goodwin. But like the players, the coordinators seem to be learning with experience. Streeter seems to be an upgrade over Elliott. I like the trajectory.

It doesn’t only excuse us for playing Furman. It controls all the mid tier FBC schools that play FCS schools and deliberately run up the score. Some have played more than 1. You and Judge Keller will just have to cry about our 5 and 0 and record, 2 ranked wins, and top 5 ranking. If our total offense and defense against an FCS school is what you want to focus on as all other narratives implode be my guest.

Eye Test

Sometimes you do have to go by the EYE test. It seems to be the consensus that Streeter deserves a better grade than Goodwin, yet the defense is ranked higher. Maybe it is my orange glasses, but my eye test says that we are much better than either of those rankings indicate.

Not me. I'm very happy that our talent is bailing out our coordinators so far this year. Don't expect it to happen against a tier 1 team though - could get embarrassing.

So happy you’re complaining constantly about two undefeated coordinators whose stats are steadily moving up the rankings each week despite increasing competition.
