I think lbs will be fine, much more worried about the DL especially the interior.

Simmons skalski and shaq are going to be a great unit and we will have depth between Chad and some of the rs fr and true fr. I think Williams will be an end not a LB and is a lot bigger than you listed.

This unit will be MORE athletic than last years unit. Lamar was a great big body in the middle but really struggled sideline to sideline and vs the pass. Joseph was better but nowhere near the athleticism of Shaq Smith. Now their experience and knowledge, that’s the question. But we will be starting 3 redshirt juniors.........this is a more seasoned group than the casual fan realizes.

So while last years defense had a great front 7 and a backfield that needed to season to mature, this season will have a great back 7 and a front 4 that needs the season to mature.

Just a gut feeling ....

That you are correct about the athleticism. The previous defense was about a high level of stress on the opposing offense on every down all game long. I think this year’s defense will be high speed punch in the mouth early and hold on in the second half when some of the speed wears off and the other side makes adjustment. That’s where you really miss that experience. I think that first punch is all we will need with an offense which really should be up by three TDs on everybody by halftime.

I recall Chad Smith being raised to a FIVE STAR, after he was announced top performer at one of Nike’s top camps. It was after he committed but none the less he was raised to ***** status!

All those Freshman will have to get in line until they can put on some muscle weight, and while they are doing that, they had better get and take everything from practice that they possibly can bc BV will play the best guy in the best shape that he has to put on the field. And that is exactly why BV has the reputation of being the best DC in the country, he has no favorites, the best player will play under BV's leadership, and the rest will play MOP UP duty!!! The days at Clemson when the younger guys will come in and slack until the guys ahead of them are gone or about to be gone is OVER. The biggest things that has changed since Dabo and the elite coaching staff that he has put together, is that recruits will start from day one at building their bodies and FB intelligence from the day they step on campus, and the ones that are lazy will never even earn a back up spot on the practice team, much less the in game team. I remember back in the day when players really didn't apply them selves 100% until the guys ahead of them were nearing the end of their college playing days, and those types of players win 6-7-8 games a season and will never come close to smelling an NFL locker room!!! GO Tigers of the Dabo Swinney Era, the Era when Championships are won!!!!

Great post. I like what I see for next year. Simmons can get better; I expect Skalski to be good; Jones could contribute; time for Shaq to shine. A lot of young talent coming. I think BV will figure it out. Go Tigers!

Looking for Mike Jones to emerge in game day rotations by early in season ...

Somewhat concerning that Shaq Smith hasn’t gotten

More meaningful snaps up to this point. I would have guessed he would contribute more thus far. Hopefully things click for him this year.

LBs will be fine maybe great. Simmons will be all american, Skalski is awesome, should be at least all conference un!ess someone beats him out for starter. He will play a lot of snaps wherever he is needed whether he starts or not.

Shaliski is awesome? Hopefully he becomes awesome. I have not seen that awesome side of him yet though.

faster and more athletic than Ben Boulware.

No recent linebacker has had a better football IQ and leadership ability than Boulware though.

I know but really hoping he and jones honed their skill and become leaders.

We should be really good and deep on the backend so whereas we may contain more up front, we have the depth in the backend to make plays.
