Watching those clips, Shipley really does look lke

Feb 18, 2021, 8:41 AM

Spiller 2.0, and Phil is one Bad Mafah! Got to get those guys integrated quickly into the offense. Mafah especially could be that 3rd and 1 pounder that we have lacked for so long. On many of his runs, he can be seen bringing the pain to those trying to hit him at the end. :)

I agree that they both look good and should get early playing time (if they can pass-protect).

Of the two, Shipley appears to me to be the best pure runner. He has quick feet, speed and is hard-hitting. His change of direction is lightning fast. Mafah is also fast and hard-hitting, but I think his running style needs some work for him to be his best. He runs with his weight shifting from side to side, which allows him to juke and change direction aggressively, but it slows down his forward acceleration and momentum. If he can change that to the way Shipley runs, he'll be an incredible RB.

They both seem to have a whole lot of potential.

Mafah will get the third and 1's if he is able to get started. #9 was having to elude defenders in the backfield as soon as he got the handoff many times. Our running backs will only be as good as our Oline is competent. If Travis E. couldn't have a great senior season as great as he is, then this group is gonna have to have better Oline play, cause there isn't a #9 in the bunch.

Speaking of # 9 wider if Shipley gets to keep his high school # ? To me is is the best of the whole crew!

Whoa... Shipley has been great so far in his career

Feb 19, 2021, 11:17 AM [ in reply to Watching those clips, Shipley really does look lke ]

but that is a TREMENDOUS jump up from Weddington to Clemson... So we need to see if he can make them "miss in a phone booth" like CJ b/c CJ could literally do that, in addition to having that breakaway speed that couldn't be caught. I wouldn't put that kind of pressure on myself as a fan with that kind of expectation. Shipley is probably going to be a bonafide player for us but man you set a really high bar for him... LOL

2024 white level memberbadge-donor-05yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

He doesn't quite have the sheer breakaway speed that

Feb 19, 2021, 12:00 PM

CJ had, but yes, I am expecting a whole lot out of this one. :)

In the limited playing time, I'm a big Pace fan. Unfortunately, with all this talent and limited opportunities to touch the ball - see WR talent - we will be seeing some transfers. Big fan of Mellusi too!

Going back to the Danny Ford era, I don’t think we had this many backs while running the option attack. Couple of fullbacks and about 4 tailbacks. Might have been a couple more some years. But with this HUNH offense with no fullbacks, I don’t understand why we have so many RBs??

Shipley becomes the next Renfrow - gets some carries as well. LynJ, Melusi, Maftah - Dukes continues as a return guy. Hope Pace stays. He’s a stud.

IMO, Dixon needs to put on a few pounds of muscle to be a starter, but I do like his shiftiness, and he keeps moving forward.

The guys behind him, Mellusi, Pace, and Dukes will have to step up, bc if they don't, Shipley and Mafah will knocking, and moving into those spots bc they are both very talented, and by their first full off season, one or both of those two guys will be RB#1, and RB#2 bc with those two guys, they do remind of of Thunder, and Lightning, and once they move up the position chart, they will be very hard to move them out. And it is just that simple bc they are that talented IMPO!!!!

What matters is whether anyone on the line is man enough to block. Based on the last couple of years, one of the freshman will start at RB.

I think our TE’s & WR’s will be lights out opening up the running game. We have the best recruiting at Offensive line that we have ever had. Develop had to take place, we have some road graders that will get much better.

Get ready for more balance including the TE, & I believe over the next 3-4 years our Offensive lines ever with many top draft picks from OL.

We have brought in some serious freshmen talent. Ship is confident and already on campus. Will CJ have these young guys ready for p.t. against UGA? The RB competition looks wide open to me.

Kobe Pace

Feb 19, 2021, 9:07 AM

is the player I'm most interested in of the returning RBs.

I feel like he's a sleeper ?? dude was layin the wood on defenders in games and people on here acting like we didn't have a power back last year ??

Excited to see these RBs in action!

Re: Kobe Pace

Feb 19, 2021, 10:12 AM

I really like Pace as well and wish we had used him more in goal line and short yardage situations. It won’t hurt to have two ‘power’ guys on the roster now though... just hope we actually use them and Oline play improves enough that we don't have to rely on running to the outside.

I am concerned about Rencher sticking around another year and using up carries that would have otherwise gone to some of these younger guys. I understand the locker room leadership benefits he brings to table, but hate seeing younger guys lose opportunities to shine. Hope the plan is to keep him around as a ‘player coach’ more than actual player. His future in the sport lies in this area anyhow, so I’d hope he would understand.

Was impressed with the difficult sideline catch he made against GT. Would've liked to see what he could have done with more touches.
