TNET: Redshirt Report: Justin Mascoll learned lessons from Clelin Ferrell

Redshirt Report: Justin Mascoll learned lessons from Clelin Ferrell

Clelin Ferrell left his mark at Clemson with his play on the field, but his biggest contribution to the program happened when nobody was looking. It happened when Ferrell took the younger guys aside for lessons, big brother talks, and advice on how to attack the college game. Justin Mascoll is a prime example of those lessons.

Do we have a shot at RB, Noah Sewell? Man, I Hope so. I'm still puzzled as to why we don't seem to be getting these top-tier players. I mean we get some, but we have won the N.C. 2 out of the last 3 or 4 years! And yet we struggle to get within the top ten recruiting-wise? Am I missing something here? We stomp Alabama in the NC, and yet here they are again have the number one recruiting class in the nation. And we, the national champs have eight other teams ahead of us in recruiting?? Recruiting is not everything?? Recall that Trevor Lawrence was the number one recruit in the nation, and a five-star. Really where would we be without Trevor? I'm just saying that we don't seem to recruit very well, given our record. This will eventually come back to bite us in the a$$ if we don't correct it. JMHO.

Um...you do realize that...

The most recent recruiting class was basically locked down in December (before the playoffs). The full recruiting fallout from the championship will be felt for years to come.

First of all, the services move up the SEC commits and signees. Secondly, Clemson beat Alabama twice out of the last 3 years with the current recruits. Then, the recruits Clemson is signing are very, very good whether they are rated higher than Alabama's, or not.

ESPN, and others, said Alabama was the greatest team of all time going in. Then, after the game, they said Alabama's defense was really the worst one they've had in recent years.
They are too busy kissing Saban and Alabama's back sides to do the right thing.

I can show actual cases where they moved Alabama commits over other commits as recently as last year. But, this is nothing new.

Also, don't you find it strange that the only SEC team that's had the NCAA actually do anything at all was Ole Miss? Isn't it strange that Ole Miss actually beat Alabama on the field twice? No other SEC team has beaten Alabama other than Auburn in a freak game in 2017 and then in 2013. Alabama isn't going to turn in Auburn because Auburn also has the dirt on Alabama.

If you want to see more about the SEC watch the videos on Youtube about the state of Mississippi and recruiting.

Ok so I read the comments on a story about mascoll and they have nothing to do with mascoll. Instead were talking about recruiting rankings. So first off, good job Justin. Thank you Cle. Secondly, Dabo said so himself that we would never land the #1 class. Ranking services are like the news. Some recruits are ranked accurately and some are total misses. But you never get the full story with them. Dabo goes off more than just game film and camps. He looks at work ethic, conduct, family, and if you're all in or all self. So our recruits wont get us the #1 class but they will win national championships with swinney and staff which satisfies me and should satisfy everyone but.....

This isn't a very honest take...outside of Travis ETN all of our best players were former 5 stars or top ranked players at their positions. We aren't winning with good ole boys that play with heart. Trevor Lawrence, Justyn Ross, Dexter Lawrence, Christian Wilkins, Mitch Hyatt, Tee Higgins, Trayvon Mullen, and Tre Lamar were all ranked 5 star recruits by at least 1 platform, and the only starters that weren't unanimous 4 stars were both safeties, Hunter renfrow, and Travis ETN. We are winning because we out recruit people. If we don't get a top 5 recruiting class in 2020 (Which we are on pace too) Our success will definitely take a dip.

Love that the guys that chose to come back this past year, not only came back to win a championship, they came back to leave a legacy by taking the younger guys under their wings and setting excellent examples for them to follow as players, teammates, and citizens.

As for recruiting (not sure how this topic ended up in this thread), I agree that we don't have to have a top five class every year. As long as we are staying in or near the top ten and getting the players that fit the culture Dabo has built, we will be fine. We will have years where we jump much higher in the standings because sometimes the top players do "fit" Clemson. We will get our fair share of those guys (ie. Deshaun, Trevor, Christian, Dex, etc.). All that being said, the 2020 class is looking like it could be a very special class.

Here's to letting the coaches continue doing what they have been doing. The results, two Nattys in three years, have earned my trust in their process.

"All In" all the time! Go Tigers!

I think that the biggest thing that you're missing is that we don't have to recruit in the 1-9 classes like some teams do year in and year out, we are winning Natty's and they're not. Our coaches have proven time and again that they are great at evaluating talent, and they do much better than most at coaching what we get. Bottom line is that, our coaches does it better and they have proved it day in and day out, season in and season out!!!

You just always need a great QB in that scenario. Kind of like the Patriots.

Four years from now the TigerNet headline will read: Class of 2023 Redshirt Freshman DE Joe “Soon to be” Stud just learned lesssons from Justin Mascoll...

Great job Clelin Ferrell for his leadership skills which will pay large dividends in the future.

Don’t worry about Clemson having a #1 recruiting class - Dabo knows exactly which players will fit HIS recruiting framework. I have full trust in this coaching staff that they know what they’re doing. We don’t need a boatload of 5-Star physical studs who aren’t going to buy into the Clemson philosophy. Leave those other guys to the teams holding the Second Place trophy.
