Looks about right. Game is usually won in the trenches and OSU dominated the line of scrimmage all night. Tough because TLaw deserves better. He did about as well as he could under the circumstances.

I give 75% of the credit to Ohio States play and 25% to poor ### play by our Tigers. Give credit to where credit is due.
GO TIGERS!

Re: Great season but only

inside the ACC. To win the ACC again was a great accomplishment. But it will have to end there. Given the offensive line play the Tigers were just ok. Thought they would have been better after getting some playing time last year but it looks like a serious movement in the weight room and to man up more will be needed if any improvement next year. Playoff game looked like men against boys. No doubt pain was also felt in the defensive backfield as well as linebacker play at times. It's been a couple of years now of inconsistent offensive playing. Will do great and score touchdown then have next series of 3 and out. Can't ever play with the big boys like this. On the defensive side after watching LSU run up the score and massive amount of yardage and now Ohio St do the same thing some serious looks at talent progression, coaching up and a real game time mentality focus needs a look. Yes to win the ACC was fun but so far the conference is 0-5 in bowl games. Maybe, just maybe the Tigers this year final ranking could be number 11. As much as I hate to say it no doubt it wasn't Ohio State. I understand the thought process to play as many players you can when beating your opponent during the regular season but it would be ok to see the starters play through the 3rd quarter and maybe a series in the 4th quarter to keep consistency and stay in game shape with the first units. No doubt that Ohio State intent was to win, inflict as much pain as they could and to leave no room for doubt. How the Tigers and the coaching staff chew on this until next year will show itself when they start off with Georgia. Hopefully the entire ACC will get better than this past year and not let other conferences pass them by.

The ACC is 0-5 in bowl games. Outside Clemson, the ACC conference isn’t any better then the MAC and Conference USA. Clemson can’t afford a loss next year. If we loose to Georgia, the season will be over.

I agree with the linked article - looks like we didn't watch ANY film on defense (not too mention 6 games)- made those guys look like the KC Chiefs - we'll see how they look on Monday. Just credit that as mulligan for BV and company and start over for next year, hopefully with a bit more motivation than we saw on the field. On offense we need the young OL to hit the weights HARD and learn to actually block people and hope the new pups come in with a bang.
We're not going anywhere any time soon so will be back for sure but the last two years we have looked like the "second tier" instead of the big dogs when we hit the play-offs. It would appear we have become complacent and lost the edge.

I would grade it like this:
Special teams: B (punt coverage was excellent)
Offense: D+
Defense: incomplete. It’s hard to grade when they don’t even show up.
Coaching: F. After the performance in last year’s national championship game plus knowing they are extra motivated to beat you, how do you not have a better game plan and at least look like you want to be there.

I’ve never seen the defense look that confused for an entire game. Not sure what was going on, but it was painful to watch. No doubt BV will do some serious examination & make the necessary adjustments. I hope next season they play with rage against every opponent! Let’s reclaim the mountain next season!

I don't like to talk about players but DK needs to make up his mind whether he wants to play football or not. He will not get a good grade with the NFL if that's what his intentions have been. Reminded me of a couple players in 2015.

Are we not developing players on the backend? Seems like we had some great recruits (numbers wise 247) but haven't seemed to live up to their billing.

Did we have dbs hurt? Why was Tyler V in there. I know he had to play at ND but don't remember anyone else hurt for this game. What about booth? Wasn't he supposed to be like a day 1 starter?

As for our dline, OSU had a great scheme to confuse our DE's and spread them out and as Myles said, kept them confused and off balance as to whether or not rush or cover gaps... Did we not see that coming? If so, why don't our line run that scheme. Tia

I'm gonna make this short and not so sweet:

Offensive line: D- for being really offensive
QB: B- considering weak support from the line
Running: D with little support from the line
Receiving: B- thanks to Powell

Defensive line: C- I expected much better
(I include defensive ends)
Linebackers: D disorganized and sloppy
DB & safeties: F terrible pass defense
Special teams: B+

Perhaps the absence of Tony Elliot was a big deal. In 2021 the Tigers need vast improvement on the offensive line. The running game will need to be re-established with all the youth we will have coming up. I feel DJ will be a super star if he has the protection, a solid running game and receiving core.

BV must work with the young players and especially defensive backs and safeties. The defensive line must get back to monster status! That's it for now.

Granted-it doesn't make a difference at this point

Jan 4, 2021, 2:28 AM

but I wish someone would break down the # of offensive holding calls OSU should have had. Holding is one of those mythical disdainful subjects that usually is met with "well-everybody holds" . I beg to differ. Grabbing inside someone's jersey on the line is one thing. Tackles and horse collars served up to our DL seemed way out of line. Skowski almost got decapitated. If that's the way its supposed to be played, we should have elevated our level of "stealth" as well. Very very little of anything got called in that game...and I'm not saying it cost us the game but we need to go under facemasks, put on head locks, grab and tackle defenders as well. They'd have scored later but one TD run, they had our corner locked with a big hand of jersey waving as the runner went by. Obviously, we just got beat but there should be some degree of consistency.

David, i am curious if the coaching staff uses this grading system as part of their standard process, or is this just something you use to help us understand performance?

Don't mean to belittle Coach, but he seems to always say, especially after a defeat, we will learn from this and move forward. Given the last 2 beat downs we got from LSU and the bucknuts, it begs the question, is that response hollow, because it didn't seem we learned or changed much, including the horrific OL play this year.

Do not believe having Coach E would have helped any, as you remember he decided to take the ball out of ET's hands last year early in the 3rd quarter of the LSU game.
