Herbstreit: Swinney would "come off the top belt" at being called CEO of Clemson

Fans of opposing teams like to think that Clemson head coach Dabo Swinney is simply the CEO of the 29-0 Tigers, but that couldn’t be further from the truth. Full Story »

Sure...but our Coot “friends” still think he is a cheerleader. Hahaha. Silly Coots.

I hope they continue to think that. The first step in fixing your problem is recognizing you have one. As long as that population thinks Dabo is a silly cheerleader, they won't demand the proper fix to their problems.

cognition requires an actual brain, rather than a mass of ganglia,so there's really no chance of the dirt-peckers ever figuring it out.

meh. It shouldn't be insulting, but in the sports world it implies that he doesn't know anything nuts and blots wise, just knows how to be a manager. CEOs in the business world have knowledge of how the business needs to run, but it doesn't mean they can do every job in the hierarchy. No CEO can. No head coach can.

Jan 10, 2020, 10:58 AM [ in reply to Re: TNET: Herbstreit: Swinney would "come off the top belt" at being called CEO of Clemson ]

Does anybody within/at Tiger Nation that really cares what the coots think (ha ha think) or says about Dabo or anyone else at Clemson. I surely don't bc whatever comes from their trashy mouth can't affect anything that happens at/with Clemson or any of its people. They are not smart enough to help lead their own FB program to be a success, and nothing they can say will hurt anything successful at Clemson.

I'm not throwing poison darts at anyone, but sometimes some Clemson fans worry to much about what the coots think about what is happening at Clemson, they hate it, but it really don't matter what they say bc, there is nothing that failures can do to change or alter our success, they just have to live with it period!!!

I think it's talking about a good old fashioned "rasslin" move where a guy jumps off the top rope of the squared ring and pounces on his opponent. He's saying Dabo would jump off the top rope of the ropes around the arena and pounce on whomever says it.

I’ve always found it ridiculous that the media (Herbstreit and Fowler) are interviewed by the media about the game. This happens more and more in all aspects of the media and results in a media echo chamber.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Re: media interviewing media, note also the premise stated

Jan 10, 2020, 8:07 AM

“ Herbstreit and co-commentator Chris Fowler were asked about a shift in philosophy from hiring a hands-on type like Alabama’s Nick Saban to CEO types like Swinney and LSU’s Ed Orgeron. “

Or so says the ‘expert journalist’ who has made their opinion the basis for their article. I get it, as the new angle or thought can be key to a good article. I wonder if the interviewer has ever been to an Alabama/Saban practice to see “... Saban’s hands on approach...”?

He/she certainly hasn’t been to a Clemson practice.

Sorry if my cynicism and disdain for the media has biased my comments, but frankly, I’ve developed a huge dislike for the majority of them.

Totally agree. The media creates issues where there are none. But unfortunately there are too many people out there that hang in their every word.

Well, to be real, they have a lot of airspace to fill and money to earn and coaches and players as interviewees are notoriously vanilla - trying to keep from providing bulletin board material for the other team.

Besides, who would provide us all of the stuff we need to pissusoff if these guys weren't constantly shooting off their mouths.

Kudos for your truthful comment! That’s how they sell their “product”. Their product is their opinion and they hang on and ride with the football game to sell it. We are here for the football (what counts) and aren’t really interested in their product.
Their product had Trevor failing as a qb at the beginning of the season. The talking heads take themselves way way too seriously.

The #1 trait you want in a CEO is

Jan 10, 2020, 8:12 AM

that they recognize that no matter how smart and talented they are, it is absolutely essential that they surround themself with the best of the best. In that sense, Dabo is the best CEO on the planet.

2024 orange level memberbadge-donor-05yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

The CEO thing is meant as a slight. It implies that Dabo

Jan 10, 2020, 8:26 AM

simply delegates everything because he has no clue about teaching or making adjustments. Nothing could be further from the truth. Dabo is a sponge for information on how to best do things. At this point, he could probably coach the DL if he had to because he's been around some of the best DL coaches in the business and he pays attention to everything. He's 5 steps ahead of everybody and that's why this program is what it is.

Re: TNET: Herbstreit: Swinney would "come off the top belt" at being called CEO of Clemson

Jan 10, 2020, 8:27 AM

You don't need to have attended a practice to know Coach Swinney has a football coach's mind to go along with his leadership skills. Watch the spring game broadcast ESPN did last year, and any cheerleader perception will disappear quickly.

Spot on

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

This presumption has always bothered me

Jan 10, 2020, 2:28 PM

Dabo was a wide receiver coach, who, in Tommy Bowden's words said is the best guy to lead our team when he was let go.

Dabo was known as the coach who took his job seriously and has expressed many times his favorite thing is to be with the players and coach them up. Obviously a guy that enjoys the coaching aspect, and, did it in a way that demand accountability from his players. But, he was also the guy that all players, even non-wide receivers gravitated too as Dabo had that it factor.

So, when Dabo becomes the head coach, and others see this guy who loves the game, loves his players and has super energetic interviews (aka: just being himself) he's viewed as some kinda cheerleader and not a big X&O's guy.

Nothing could be further form the truth. Dabo loves to win. He's not going to be fooled by anyone on the field.

I think this might be why people have a hard time when they see Dabo getting after players when they make mistakes. It's so counter to the narrative that Dabo is only a goofy cheerleader.

2024 white level memberbadge-donor-05yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

He IS the CEO. For if he ISN'T, then who IS?

Jan 12, 2020, 1:51 PM

Of course he's also head coach, head cheerleader, head recruiter, head "vision guy", head "motto generator," head spokesman, head charity coordinator, head mentor, head motivator,

Sorry getting tired of typing. I'll let somebody else fill in the other hundred things.
