Georgia Tech coach says Clemson offense was "absolutely overwhelmed" by Georgia

Georgia Tech defensive coordinator Andrew Thacker didn’t mince words this week when discussing Clemson’s opening game loss to Georgia, telling the media that Clemson was “absolutely overwhelmed” by the Bulldog defense. Full Story »

He's right.

DJ kept holding the ball too long in an effort to make a big play, giving our long-striding WRs time to get space on the DBs. That's immaturity to do that over and over again.

Instead, we needed DJ to find his check down guys. Hopefully TE helps him out. The long ones will be there when the OL is more cohesive.

And yeah, any GT defender named Swilling doesn't want to go to family reunions until he's gotten payback on giving up 73 points to Clemson.

Yes sir, and I remember the last time that our defense gave up 70 points in the Orange Bowl, Brent Venables became our new DC. So I'm surprised that Andrew is still the DC at GT after getting beat down like he did in GT's yard.

So, if I would have been Andrew Thacker, I would have been thankful that I still had my job at GT, and I would have pointed to the next question stating new season different team. I sure as H&11 wouldn't be making comments about DJ and our game with UGG-a.

But since he found it necessary to talk about two elite teams playing their first game of the season ending with neither team scoring an offensive TD, I guess we'll see just how much he learned about Clemson in that game.

Hopefully DJ will be back to how he played against ND, and BC last season, and GT can experience two thrashings by the same team in back to back seasons. If so, it may leave Mr Thacker in the same situation as Mr Steele was in after our loss to WV in the orange bowl, unemployed :)!!!!

Hopefully we can pull this game out ??, unless they pull out what UGA did...lol

I think these Tigers are ready & hungry to avenge that loss against the Georgians again!

In the long run that 1st game will help us be better much better than a win would have, Dabo has everyone’s attention.

I wouldn’t be surprised to see this team win a National Championship this season, Dabo is the comeback kid!

Remember 2016, we know how to overcome & dominate, I’ll never forget out improvement after that Our loss that year!

We keep getting better & better everyday, in every way!

If this guy thinks it was UGA’s scheme and not their players - he’s as clueless as a team doing pre-game weight training on the sidelines….

Unless GT is borrowing the UGA DL (which by the way is also the only way SCar has any chance to win this weekend) - they’ll find a much more capable offense than what he saw on film.

Capable of 70 pts…definitely not , but certainly far more capable than what was seen vs UGA…

Pretty sure a DC knows more than you or me…***

We've been blessed to have watched DW and TL take the reins and leads us to 2 NC. Now its DJs turn. I cant imagine the pressure this kid is facing. Those are some HUGE shoes to fill. Throw in the woes of the new OL, facing the UGA DL, and its no wonder hes had issues. TL didnt even have to face what DJ is facing. TL , even though we knew he would take over, wasnt the starter to begin the season. He did struggle a bit vs A&M.
Be glad for what the team has achieved over the past several years. But understand that nothing lasts forever. Even the bammer coach will eventually retire and move on.... Get behind DJ and give him a chance to run the offense.

Go Tigers!!!!

I'm thankful for what Clemson has achieved in the past, but not giving up on this team and future achievements. I'm going to be thankful for a lot of upcoming successes.

Every team in college FB goes through the same pains that we're going through right now, even Bama. The difference with Bama is, they are so talented with each player two deep, and it makes it easier for them to shade what we're dealing with now!!! But we are talented enough to recover and have a great season, and if DJ can't move forward from what happen with UGG-a, Dabo will have to move to the next man up, even if it means relying on the talent of true freshmen Will Taylor. This isn't the first time we have had a good QB fall from a very bad game experience and not make it back mentally, and it won't be the last!!!

Nobody with the exception of his family wants DJ to be successful more than the average Clemson fan, criticisms from some on here not withstanding. DJ will get better, much better, but it may be hard on some of us watching the process, depending on how long it takes. Go DJ, go Tigers!

If DJ has any smarts in his head at all, he'll stop trying to fill anyone's shoes but his own. It don't take huge plays to win a game. He needs to understand what those two past QB's understood, and that is to take what a defense gives you when their #1 plan is to stop the run. If DJ would have taken all the underneath stuff that UGG-a was willing to give up in that game, it would have slowed the UGG-a pass rush down, and maybe he could have hit a TD pass in that game. But once he threw that Int that he telegraphed, it resulted in sack after sack bc he held onto the ball to long.

I'm sure that game is hard for him to watch, but he should watch his film on that game until it makes him puke every time he watches it bc, if he sees all the open receivers he had in that game, but he didn't listen to what those guy were telling him. With DW4 and Trevor, if the play called by Tony wasn't there, they improvised and went for what they did see was there, and I don't DJ is doing that.

It's one thing to have a game plan, but when that plan isn't working right then, change the plan on your own until it is open. For what ever the reason may be, to this point, DJ hasn't improvised the same as DW4, and Trevor could do, and DJ needs to do the same, IMPROVISE!!! Somebody needs to get into DJ's head, and get him to understand that the play called by your OC isn't in ink, it's written in pencil, erase it quickly, and pencil in what you see is there. DW4, and Trevor had that ability, and it worked so well with them, that it looks like a scripted play....

For the defensive co-ordinator to be talking smack after that kind of effort is inviting another beat down IMO...(even if he's correct).

Georgia offense was “absolutely overwhelmed" by Clemson too

Sep 18, 2021, 10:25 AM

None of which has any particular bearing on the Clemson vs Ga Tech game today.

I cannot argue with one thing he said.
He told it like it is and how it was. It took some guts on his part and did it without trashing us.

The OL was a big part of the problem, but it's not all on them. Pre-snap reads are on DJ, and he's got a lot of stuff to work on to get where he needs to be. He also needs to communicate to the RB who he's responsible for blocking. And he needs to help his OL by staying behind his blocker and not running around him into a sack when he's engaged.

Interesting comments on CTE!

As well as I remember Dabo had all the brakes on he could just to keep it there we could have scored a 100 if tried

sounds like he watched the same game I watched.

But I’m not sure you want to speak so candidly in public.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

is there a german word for vicarious wins?

Honestly, the guy sounds like a South Carolina fan feeling proud because Alabama beat somebody. Dude got 70+ dropped on him last year. You'd think he'd be as conciliatory as possible!

DJ stunk it up pretty bad. His pick six cost us the game. Don't blame this on Ross either. WTH is Ross doing playing slot? Morans. That's moron in for those of you who don't understand what really stupid is.

This was not a good game to come out and start because our OL was over matched by Georgia's defensive line. We keep hearing about how great our OL is but once again, they come out looking like they just eat a pizza and slept it off.
