From Brees to Foles to Ehlinger, Cade Klubnik wants to live up to rich QB tradition

Cade Klubnik walked into Clemson’s indoor practice facility earlier this month and owned the moment, listening to his coaches and immediately building a bond with his future teammates. The leadership he shows, and the swagger he exhibits, are all part of the package when you’re a state championship-winning quarterback at the highest levels of Texas high school football.

Cade seems like he a very good leader. He is built to take over our offense when his time comes, playing for Westlake and having those QB's as mentors is invaluable. Further to be excited about the future as well as our current team.

The best part of having cade as our future QB?

He really wanted to be here. It wasn't a tough decision, he didn't mince words about other visits or choices. He was 100% All In right from the time of the offer.

That also speaks to his confidence and leadership.

Love that he's a Tiger

I am no expert at analyzing talent, but here is what stood out to me in the video. (Yes, I watched all of it.)

His feet. He seems fast, but that's not what I noticed as much as his quickness with his feet to slide away from pressure, then quickly get his feet back under him and make an on-balanced throw.

He might suffer from a slight case of "happy feet," dancing in the pocket when there is no pressure, but that is far easier to correct than to try and teach someone how to have "quick feet."

Bobby Bowden used to talk about Charlie Ward. He would say, "He's got wheels." He wasn't talking about his 40 time.

Klubnick's got wheels.

I hope he plays like Sam. Sam wasn't the most talented QB in the country but he gave all on the field. I do believe when it is all said and done that Cade will be a 5 star and will be turning heads in a few years.

I haven't been to a Texas HS game since 2007 (my youngest son's last season). I will break the streak this year to go see Klubnik play for Westlake. I am excited about what he brings to the table. I've seen his videos from last season and whatever was on the local news from last year's championship run. I honestly am not 100% sold on his passing ability, but I do trust our coaching staff. This dude can run the lead option though. Best at making run reads that I have seen coming out of HS in quite a while.

Your comment only enforces what I have said about the hs team's in Texas has a better player to player talent with the teams than they do in most states. Cade has probably had to get away from the defensive rush more than he would have playing in another state....

Well, you missed out on the state championship game, then. There's really not many excuses not to watch those since they are all televised starting at the lowest level and all played at Jerry World in Arlington.
I saw him play in several games and I do believe he's got the arm and he proved that standing right in front of Dabo at camp. That was on video as well and you missed that also. The kid can fling it. He's got a much better arm than Ehlinger, plus he's a lot quicker.

Three of his playoff games are on Youtube and others are available elsewhere. The video of him hitting DJ's brother in front of Dabo has been on this site for a while, too.

I don't think that a lot of our fans truly understand how good this kid is bc he is a 4 ? QB recruit, and not a 5 ? recruit. Most don't understand that playing FB in the state of Texas, it isn't the same as playing against player to player talent like in SC. The players on HS teams in Texas are just better bc they have a lot more talent to build a top team, than they do in most states, and being that the talent is so good bc of a bigger player pool to choose from, the ? quality just don't come as fast as it does when a great player is playing against lesser talent. And it my opinion that no matter who comes in after Cade, they better be super talented to be able to beat Cade out for the starting QB job. Cade has went 14-0 against some of the best talents in the country, and won a championship going 14-0. Just saying that I believe Cade is going to be a championship QB at Clemson!!!!

Re: TNET: From Brees to Foles to Ehlinger, Cade Klubnik wants to live up to rich QB tradition

Honestly, he kind of reminds me of Drew Brees. If you remember, nobody wanted Brees other than Purdue. His uncle was Marty Akins who played for Texas, but he was more interested in A&M if memory serves correctly. He looks a little like Brees in a lot of ways and then he's a winner. Both won state championships, but Brees won as a senior. Klubnik may not repeat because the road is tough, but he's got the one in his resume already.
He played against all everything Quinn Ewers, that silly sites have rated as high or higher than Trevor Lawrence, and he made Ewers look silly. Or, his teammates did.

Having seen Ewers, I honestly laughed when I saw his ranking. He's very good, but he's no Trevor Lawrence. Come on, man. Haha. Those sites will do anything for a buck, but Ewers higher than Lawrence? Give me a break. Not even close.

I am sure that he knows what has been a head of him at Clemson, but, I am also sure that he's not afraid of the challenge ahead of him either bc, he could have went to other schools that hasn't had two 1st NFL QB's just right ahead of him!!!

That’s my quarterback!

Jun 24, 2021, 12:11 PM

Hope he’s the best one we’ve ever had because our OL will be the best it’s ever been along with some great TE’s & WR’s.

This may not be a popular opinion but I think Klubnik

Jun 24, 2021, 2:43 PM

will be the better QB than Arch Manning. Klubnik has had to play against much tougher competition reaching the 6A State Championship in Texas.
Just my opinion.

Why would that not be popular? He's coming to Clemson and Arch may go elsewhere.
