TNET: Feaster closes the door on Tiger career: "My time is up at Clemson"

Feaster closes the door on Tiger career: "My time is up at Clemson"

The door at Clemson is closed for running back Tavien Feaster and all that’s left is graduation and a decision on his next school, which will either be Virginia Tech or South Carolina.

I’m really sorry you feel that way but ETN is the best back on the team and quite possibly the best in the nation. Like Kelly Bryant you had every opportunity to take the job and become the top back but you didn’t. Good luck if you chose VT. If you choose the other school I don’t think you were ever truly a Tiger. That’s just my 2 cent.

I agree. He’s a good straight-line athlete & has soft hands, but just doesn’t play full speed in traffic. He’s not good enough to carry a top tier team, but could possibly fare decently on a less talented team because of more playing time. I don’t see him being drafted, so this year is likely it for his football playing days. I wish him well, but don’t understand the sour grapes because he definitely had his opportunities at Clemson.

I think he only dropped to third when he was injured

He was clearly second last season. But that demotion over an injury must have bothered him ever since.

I don’t recall him being injured since he had the shoulder surgery when he first got here as a freshman. He dropped to 3rd because of lack of consistency. Refresh my memory on the injury going into last year

TF seems like a good kid, and can’t fault someone for being a competitor and thinking he can shine somewhere else. Although there are consequences. Those may matter or not time will tell when he is 35. Life after football and the connections. I doubt he is really part of the family anymore but that’s a guess. My last thought is he has great speed but he sure doesn’t run Violently like Gallman did for example. And ETN has an elusiveness that is generational and isn’t something that is taught. I wish TF the very best, the man got his degree and represented us well. credit given where it’s due. Thanks for the contribution!

Best of luck to this young man wherever he decides to go, I really wish he would stay at Clemson. With that said some of you people on this website crack me up y'all get on here and type stuff like a high school yearbook. I really don't think Tavien gives a crap about some of y'alls opinions. All I know is once a Tiger Alwaysa Tiger and he was fun to watch at times. I guess if someone jumped you in your job and you only had one year to shine and you left you were never dedicated to your company. Kind of childish. If other recruits or players read this understand that these opinions do not speak for all fans. Go Tigers

I pray the best for you Feaster. You did your best. However, Dabo has proven the Best play the most regardless of time in the program. I believe you had your chance to shine as the #1 RB, and it just didn't happen. Dabo and staff played your significantly, but others were better. You were on the team and contributed during one of the most awesome times to play as a Tiger. I hope you don't take it for granted. I can pull for you as long as you don't go to the chicken school. Blessings. Go Tigers!

Wow, a bunch of immature clowns on here. I don't want him to go to SCAR as much as the next person, but you can't be angry over somebody making a decision that they think benefits them.

He acknowledged that he went from 1st team to 3rd team and said that it was a "blow". That makes sense. Imagine if you got demoted at your job. Would you be happy, or look for another job? He didn't complain or say he wasn't given a fair shot like Kelly Bryant did.

He said that he believed he is the best back in the country. I hope all of our players think that. You have to have confidence to be successful.

It's just funny that a bunch of grown men are upset that a 20 year old is making a decision that will benefit him and not negatively impact the grown men. We aren't going to lose to SCAR. We aren't going to lose any games because of this. Grow up, and enjoy our success. We still have studs on the 1st and 2nd team. And highly recruited players coming in.

I don't know if I'd go so far as to call anyone clowns on here, but I agree with your general assessment.

In the NFL players switch teams all the time due to money or whatever other reasons, and we call that a business decision. Once a player late in his career has been passed on the depth chart in college, why should it be any different. So as far as I'm concerned what Feaster is doing is a business decision. If he believes he can better showcase his skills somewhere else and get drafted, then so be it.

He was a great player for Clemson, and whether he believes it or not the coaching staff has determined there are better players than him on the team. So I support his decision to do whatever he feels is best for himself.

Personally I'd rather see him at VT, but if he goes to USuCk then so be it. I'm not gonna lose sleep over it, or feel that he is traitor or any of that kind of junk.

I agree with you. I feel he has some resentment towards the staff so more than likely he goes to Columbia. We could send our scout team running back there and he would start. He would definitely be the work horse there if that’s what he wants.

Jul 11, 2019, 9:53 AM [ in reply to Re: TNET: Feaster closes the door on Tiger career: "My time is up at Clemson" ]

I guess I disagree with most here....I think Feaster handled this situation as best he could. I only wish him the best - I would be very happy for him if he succeeds somewhere else and is drafted high. Not to beat a dead horse, but he handled much better than how KB handled the situation. You can't blame a guy for wanting a chance to be the premier workhorse for a team and prove himself. But Clemson is a different team now that back in the Raymond Priester days. ie: #We2deep. Best of luck Feaster - I'm pulling for you - family is family (once a Tiger, always a Tiger)

All the shame lies at Feasters feet. As said earlier he had every opportunity to be the man, for reasons known only to him he couldn't or wouldn't grab the brass ring. Best wishes wherever you choose to go. Personally, I think you’d get better with Fuente. Coots ain’t running the ball this year. They’ll need to be a pass oriented team to win any games.

At VT you’ll have a great chance for National attention. After September, coots won’t get any.

Thanks for choosing Clemson. Can’t fault you or KB2 for trusting in yourself. IMO you’ve handled it very professionally.

I have mixed emotions on this. Feaster is from Spartanburg High School, which is my high school, too. I agree that he had a great shot at being number one. He had some injuries that appeared to slow him down, and he never seemed to be the same after those. Once Etienne arrived and made that electrifying run against Louisville two years ago, it was over for Feaster. All the best to you, Tavien. Hope all your dreams come true. God bless.

All You Can Ask For is a: "Opportunity"

Jul 10, 2019, 10:29 PM

Feaster had an opportunity at Clemson. With as much hype as he came in under and being a local kid the pressure from the outside alone probably got him longer looks/carries than he deserved early. After his 1st season I remember an interview where you could kind of see this coming. He was being asked about "pass pro" and kind of scoffed at the question. Coach Elliott was on him about making sure he has that part of the game. Well, yep! He got better; but then enter Etienne who's vision and explosiveness in and out of cuts is next level. Feaster is more fast than quick; so catch him before he gets going and you got him. The mark of a good back - mark my word you will hear this at least 10 times each football season - is the ability to make people who are unblocked miss. Feaster never impressed me in that aspect.
With all that said, "I could see him going to an NFL team and shining"! Why? Because he does catch the ball very well for a RB. And, his pure athleticism will allow him to be a special team star!

Re: All You Can Ask For is a: "Opportunity"

Jul 10, 2019, 10:49 PM

Yep, nailed it. 5* high school talent but never developed that 5* talent in college... for whatever reason, injures, motivation, whatever but he does have skills and the one you point out is spot on- catch in the flat and run.

I can see him getting downs in the pro’s by catching in the flat and out racing defenders to the sideline for 6-7 yards. That’ll play well in the pros.

One reason why I said earlier he’ll get better with Fuente... think they’ll run that pattern more and he could shine vs the bs that coots want to run. Coots would probably try to force in between the tackles and he’d never shine like he needs too.

Did I miss something?

The article says Feaster is second all-time in regard to rushing average... with 5.99 behind Etienne. Yet Lyn-J has averaged over 8 per carry for his career according to the Clemson website.

It seems reasonable that he would’ve ended up second or third string this year. I appreciate his contribution and wish we’d been able to make more use of his hands out of the backfield, but he didnt have the burst that the other guys have.

He will have had NO Spring Practice, NO Summer Program with the new team. Additionally, the new team will have at least, a slightly different Offense. I do not think this will go very well for Feaster. Obviously, he was and is ANGRY with Dabo and Tony Elliott. That’s why he said it was “PERSONAL” when he announced over 2 months ago!

Dixon hasn't met the minimum carries requirement for career rushing statistics. Or at least that's how we handled it when I worked in college athletics media relations. Otherwise, you might have a WR run an end around--his only collegiate carry--for 44 yards, and if you didn't have such minimums, that WR would be your all-time career YPC leader. Technically that's accurate, but it doesn't mesh with the overall spirit of the statistic.

If Dixon keeps up these averages for another season, he'll go to #1.

My coot relatives are very excited that they might actually get Feaster to come play for them. I wish Feaster well, but I don't see enough of upside for him to reach the next level. I see him as a north-south runner if he gets enough of a hole to run through, but east-west runs will be his downfall. If he does not realize that, then he should watch the tapes. This will be his last year playing football.

At the beginning of this I respected Feaster's decision, but he is driving me to think less of it. If he was really wanting to be a team player, he would make a decision. Whoever his new team becomes, should be given as much notice as possible to prepare him for the offense and for the coaching staff to prepare for how he might affect that offense. He is being very selfish to his future teammates and that makes me question his attitude as a whole.

allorangeallthetime52® I agree 100%. I won't be mad at him or angry or anything like that.
But, there are some lines you don't cross. Some things are about principle. Especially if there is any "insight" being given to them.
To me: "it would be a bad look for him"! I know he wants to stick it to Clemson and show the coaches that, "they were wrong"! But, in my opinion, SC would be totally wrong!
But, he of course, can do what he feels is best for him.

The smarter decision would be VT b/c their schedule is sweet. I think they only have a couple games outside the state of Virginia. And, it's one of the most manageable in the entire country per ESPN. Which would mean, "he could face Clemson more than likely in the ACCCG"! And, "if he really wants to stick it to CU" keep us out of the playoffs! For "doing him wrong" (sarcasm).
To each their own and I wish him the best of luck unless it's against the Tigers!

No, he hung here to get his degree and I applaud him for that and that’s all Dabo asked of him.

maybe so and fair point. feaster would have gotten some carries though for sure. i just never felt like lyn-j was all that pleased, last year, with his situation. dude is small but he is electric for sure.

With that said, can we please move on from this situation? I’m tired of hearing about it.

From the sounds of things, he's S-Car bound

Jul 10, 2019, 11:48 PM

Which IMO is silly. Sure, it's nice to stay close to home, but in a few months, he'll be picked in the NFL draft... and the Carolina Panthers are the only team that's closer to home than Blacksburg (so there's a 1/32 chance he'll be away from home). VT has a desperate need for a RB... and a RB could make a huge difference. The schedule is VERY manageable. At S-Car, he'll get to lose by 28+ multiple times (UGA, Florida, Clemson, etc). Then, if Feaster is a big contributor to a Coastal championship, he STILL gets a chance to "stick it to Clemson" (not that I think VT would beat Clemson in an ACCCG this year, but in a one game scenario you just never know).

Hope I'm wrong though and he does choose Virginia Tech. Feaster hasn't lived up to billing at Clemson... but he's still a far better back than anyone we have.

Ability has never been in question, it’s the will to hit the hole wide open, in my opinion. Many would have missed had he ran full speed into the hole. He has a burst but is timid about using it.

Thank you for ring a Tiger and getting your education number 1.

Good luck I hope it’s the right decision, it will clear the RB room of butthurt!

The comments about staying in contact with VT but UofSC talk has slowed to a crawl makes me think he may choose VT. I don't know. I would like him to goto VT as I had some good friends go there plus my brother in law went there. Good history there!

I wish him the best and applaud him for graduating but as I said for KB - too bad when their ego leads to a bad decision. He got playing time before and would get playing time this season here on a team that should be a contender again. Is that really worse than going to the coots (where he seems headed out of spite rather than due to a thoughtful decision), winning maybe 6 games and getting the crap beat out of you every week? Dabo said he did have a good spring - Should be working his butt off more than ever before for his senior year and pro day at Clemson if he really wants to play in the NFL.
My 2 cents worth too.

Unfortunately for Feaster, he’s not the best running back on the team. He’s not even the 2nd best. What’s even more unfortunate is that everybody but Feaster knows it. At this point, only time will bring this reality to light for him. And I imagine it will be a harsh reality when he finally sees it.

Congrats on graduating and thanks for being a Tiger, Tavien!

Best of luck to you in your final season at VT.

And if you do elsewhere...

Hope you don’t get hurt.

Seriously, did you see what happened to the players at scar last year? Do yourself a favor and don’t go there. You’ll end up in a body cast, and you deserve better than that.

The reason he hasn't said where he's going

Jul 11, 2019, 7:29 AM

is b/c he is headed to the coots. If he were going elsewhere he would have said so already.

He doesn't want to listen to the crap he'd have to take while he's still attending Clemson.
He is waiting until he's outta here before he announces to the coots.
That way no one will be giving him as much ##### during his last few weeks at CU.

It's what I would do in his situation. But then again I could never be a coot.

Well, that’s that. Oh my goodness we’re losing “the best in the country” my first question is where is ETN going? This kid’s ego is huge. Call me whatever but if he goes to the coots(which he will 100% sure) I hope he learns to flop like Bentley and will live to regret this move. I can’t see how a true, All In Tiger could even consider this move. Even you “ high road.” Takers have to feel a little frustrated. It is an “ in your face Dabo,Tony Elliott, teammates” screw y’all and no other way of looking at it. Enough with giving this kid media attention, let the dead be dead.

I still think he may ultimately regret this decision...

Jul 11, 2019, 9:19 AM

I know he's upset about his position on the Clemson depth chart and while his carries may increase at VT or uof5c because neither team has a featured back, his YPC could decrease dramatically because the OL's at VT and uof5c are just not very good.

Interesting. My post disappeared, will do it again.

Going to usuck, I think Feaster is making a mistake. He did sort of lose me with the "I'm the best back in the country" statement. LIke someone else said, he talks like he has a grudge. The man played a big part in the National CHampionship season but apparently, that wasn't enough. Glad he is at least getting his degree.

Re: TNET: Feaster closes the door on Tiger career: "My time is up at Clemson"

Jul 11, 2019, 9:59 AM

People go to Clemson to get a degree. I'm talking regular people, now. They graduate and either move on to the work arena or go to grad school. Most of those will go to Clemson because they love it and Clemson offers what they want and/or need in their chosen field. Some go elsewhere (even uOFsc) for various reasons including that they think the other school offers what they need for them to have the greatest opportunity at success. They still have that Clemson degree and no one can take it away from them. Some of us might poke a little fun but mostly they remain good strong Clemson people.

Tavien Feaster came out of high school as a footballer who could have chosen about any school in the country to attend. He chose Clemson and we were all happy, for us and him. He gave Clemson 3 good years and will soon have graduated. If he thinks there is another opportunity that will help him further his career and fulfill his dreams, how can anyone here argue. DER, your boss did the same thing and it really didn't hurt him or his career.

Let him go, wish him well, and in 2043 welcome him back for the 25th Anniversary of the 2018 Championship and honor him for what he did for Clemson in that game. Sure, there will always be someone better in life, but if Tavien can be where his light shines brightest and fulfill that dream, more power to him.

Re: TNET: Feaster closes the door on Tiger career: "My time is up at Clemson"

Jul 11, 2019, 10:07 AM

I hate to see him "close the door" as I thought he would be very valuable this season. I think the bottom line is that players, for the most part, can just not objectively judge their own talent, or at least how they compare to other players. It's nice to have confidence in your abilities, but it is also good to understand how you fit in to a team and how you make the team better, not just how well you do personally. This decision is all about him, which is his right, but I think his chances to play in the NFL are better at Clemson, so in a way he is hurting himself. I wish him the best, as I will pull for him against everyone except us.

FEASTER: It's not about stars and reputation

Jul 11, 2019, 10:49 AM

It's about results & production...Yes, you had good stats, but certainly not amazing. Yes, you got hurt, but so have many other Tigers. Yes, you had guys with either more talent or more determination pass you up on the charts. A true champion would fight for the respect and earn that spot back, not "take your ball and go home". IDK if you can accomplish your goal of 'carrying the team' at USC or VT without any practice since last January, but take a clipboard just in case it doesn't work out for you.

Wondering why he hasn't chosen yet?

Jul 11, 2019, 1:26 PM

It seems that Tavien Feaster is going to be behind this Fall if he waits until graduating to commit to a team. Can he not commit now (or preferably a few months ago), get the playbook and start learning it while he finishes undergrad? Maybe he has? Anyone know the rules on this?

It’s possible that he wants to delay the pounding he will get from Tiger fans for choosing SCAR until he gets clear of campus.

What the hell is going on with these guys? All these transfers. So you got dropped from first string, ok, that should be motivation to kick ### and get your spot back, but instead of staying and playing for an elite team, you want to cheapen yourself and leave a program that has done more than just whip you into shape to be the best. You can't be the best if your best is to quit. Just because there is some hella good talent coming in doesn't mean you give up. Hunter Renfrow is THE model of this...kid came in as a walk on and kicked serious ###! He could have transferred, but he stuck to it, worked hard and killed the Tide.

Give me an f'ing break, Feaster. We used to respect you.
