Championship runs through the real "Death Valley" this year. I would be greatly surprised if we do not win and make the playoffs

I think USC may be overrated. Haven’t looked at their schedule so they might make the playoffs if their schedule is weak which I suspect it may be, but I don’t think they are NC material.

I’m in the “we have to prove it” stage myself. We haven’t been the model of consistency we were when BV controlled the defense. We lack wide receivers who can create space. Our defense went from top 3 to top 50-ish. In spite of having some of the best talent in the country. I don’t understand how we have missed so terribly on the receivers. None have lived up to the hype. FSU finished strong last season. We did not. I will believe we are the class of the ACC when I see it. Sorry to be Debbie Downer. Deep down, you know I’m right. Klubnik gives me pause as well. He throws these weird sky balls sometimes and my heart sinks every time. Maybe Riley can squeeze production out of lackluster receivers and get CK dialed in.

Gotta agree on the WRs and CK’s passes. I made the same comment after the spring game. Some of his passes, especially the long ones, seem to have way too much air under them, giving the DB time to recover even if the WR was initially open. Happened a few times in the spring game.

We will be better on both sides this year. Injuries and new coaches did cause us to miss on opportunities, yet there will be great improvement I believe.

bowl game performances. Or, in our case, LACK of bowl game performance. We were physically pushed around by Tennessee, while FSU won their game against Oklahoma. Now, you could argue, very successfully, I think, that last years Okie team was their weakest in decades, and FSU barely squeaked by anyway. But, all the press sees is a win over a blueblood Oklahoma name.
We DO have to "prove it" this year, even though we are the defending ACC Champions. The press nowadays considers that like being the best 7th grade hoopster, it don't mean much against the Big Boys.

I was going to write a longer comment, but basically, I just agree with everything you said so well. Regarding Cade putting too much air under the ball, I thought Toriano Pride was going to turn around and call fair catch on that one long pass in the spring game. We have a lot of talent, but we definitely have a good bit of ground to cover as well.

If it wasn't clear for you to see what our biggest problems were the last couple of seasons, there is nothing I or anyone else could say to you to help you understand bc it was blatantly obvious, and all you had to do to see it, was just watch the games bc it was clear as rain!!!

We are only as good as what people see and we laid eggs in 2 of our last 3 games last year. All it will take is a great performance against Duke and we will be back on track.

I think FSU will be a formative opponent, but this is a bit loopy. Not to say they aren't already better than Clemson, but how do you make such a prognostication when it's been a decade since they have beaten us, including the Covid year..? If anything, they should have beaten us last year, but this year? Idk.

They have used the portal.
Even last year their portal guys contributed (WR #14 comes to mind).
They lost three games in the middle of the season (each close ones), but beat LSU and OU in big TV games.
We, OTOH, have a limited roster due to not using the portal and last year we did not have a single comparable big win. Instead, we got embarrassed three times in bad losses on TV.
So I get where they are coming from.
We are still the best in the ACC until someone definitively proves otherwise, but we do not look anything like we did from 2015-2020.

I agree where you are coming from, it is a do or die season for the dynasty Dabo has built. We can easily have a CFP type year and the last 2 seasons be chalked up to bad promotions and incapable QB play but if we have another lack luster season it'll definitely be "death of a dynasty" type talk from ALL talking heads. Because if we can't win with Riley at OC and 5 star Klubnik at QB then we are old news to the what have you done for me lately crowd. I truly believe that we will go undefeated into the CFP while beating FSU twice in the process and kill all the Clemson is old news narratives that ate being pushed.

We will be much improved with Riley and the offense & the secondary is what made us weak last season on defense but we got great experience there and we recruited well!
We should send money to the FSU homers, this is when Dabo is at his best, we’ll get a new Roy bus and drive it right into the playoffs.
We’ll take down UGA for another Championship and they’ll sell FSU again next season. This is better than being told we hav cupcakes!
Ps DJU left, the future is bright! The number 1 QB Cade Klubnik has had one start, he’s going to be AWESOME!

On 8/30/08, #9 Clemson squared off vs. #24 Bama and new coach Nick Saban. Bama hammered our Tigers. 23-3 in the 1st half and the game finished 34-10. On 10/29/13, Jameis Winston & #5 FSU obliterated Tigers at home 51-14. Neither was much fun to watch in person or on TV. There was no doubt in either game who the best team was.
Now it's Clemson's turn to turn the tables. We should be looking forward to it. On 9/23/23, our Tigers can show the world how some incl. M. Schlabach have underestimated the '23 Clemson squad. Sometimes it advantageous to be the hunter and not the hunted. It can be a statement game. Go Tigers!

Lets not forget that almost every player that's gotten from the portal, they are players that usually couldn't make the #1 or #2 spots that's called on to play their positions, and that's why they left for the transfer portal.
As I've already said in another post, I can't imagine someone that talks or writes about sports for their everyday livelihood could see FSU being a better team than Clemson in 2023 after we beat FSU in their house in 2022, and with 2023 Clemson making UPGRADES with the OC, offensive scheme, QB, and with several key players returning from season ending injuries in 2022. Also there isn't many that would trade Clemson's last few recruiting classes that signed, for FSU'S recruiting classes that signed over the same period.
In My Honest Personal Opinion, ESECPN senior writer Mark Schlabach is showing his Bias/Dislike for Clemson in plain view for anybody that reads his bias Bull Chit, and that's exactly what is, his personal dislike for Clemson or HC Dabo Swinney!!!!

It's already been mentioned but probably worth pointing out again. FSU opens with LSU. A Tiger win in this game makes the almighty SEC look fantastic. Even a close loss makes LSU and the SEC look good. These rankings are nonsense. I think our Tigers are the only ACC team to beat LSU.
