Death of grandfather prompts Bowman transfer from "literally the most perfect place"

One of the main reasons Demarkcus Bowman chose Clemson was his grandfather. His grandfather’s recent passing, however, meant Bowman no longer felt comfortable in Tiger Town. Full Story »

Hope he does well at GA Tech.

Why do dogs always race to the door when the doorbell rings? It's almost never for them.

but the fact that it was first reported by AL.com makes me wonder.

I wouldn’t read too much into that. They probably have a guy monitoring the portal constantly.

I wish Demarkcus Bowmen the best and wish him peace.
I also wish he would reconsider and let the Clemson Family be "family" to him as it is to so many other young men and women on campus.
If it doesn't work out, I will enjoy following his career wherever he might land.

Good luck Mr. Bowman! I’m so grateful we are very deep at RB and we have some great new recruits!

Let’s go Tigers, the best is yet to come!

I had a best friend in high-school that went to college and within a month he was having a nervous breakdown being away from home at college. Not everyone is ready to be away from their support system at 18. Keep this former tiger in your prayers and wish him the best. As we all know, Clemson will be okay with Dabo and Veneables at the helm.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I’m from Philly. I went to school at Clemson without knowing a soul.

Oct 1, 2020, 5:09 PM

A couple weeks in I had a mini-breakdown because you simply get homesick. It’s normal. I had thoughts of “What have I done?” and “Do I return home?”. I’m glad my parents talked some sense into me and reminded me why I had initially made the decision. I figured things out and it all worked out in the end. Loved my time at Clemson.

So I get what this kid is feeling, and if his main reason for even attending Clemson was for his grand father, I can understand why he’s choosing to leave. I wish he would stick it out for another few weeks and realize it will all be okay; but maybe his family is in his ear telling him the opposite. Just so many factors at play.

Wish him the best.

You know somebody is in his head telling to come back home without ever thinking what is really best for him. Leaving home and being out from around everything that your life was comfortable with is hard on you. I've been there and done that, and you have to allow yourself the time to adjust and settle in. CJ went through the same thing, and now he has made Clemson his home!!!

We need to remember that going to college is a huge transition. Add the academics this fall and summer - mostly online. Football was probably going well, but we forget how much transition stresses young people. They are in stages of development and growth. Wish him the very best. I get it.

Brad Brownell: Only Larry freaking Shyatt has a WORSE overall winning percentage among Clemson basketball coaches since 1975. Let that sink in. It's Larry Shyatt & then Brad Brownell.

That's it, he watched the other 6 guys ahead of him struggle to get back to the line of scrimmage because of the O-line. He finally got a carry and juked 3 yards out of it and found out he was still behind the 6 guys and a walk on

I don't think that if they leave before they have completed a season. They wanted to be a Tiger, but failed to complete their Cub season!!!

Hate to hear of his pain and loss but at the end of the day you have always do what’s best for you. If he didn’t like Clemson and only wanted to please his Grandfather he should have never come. Both of my Grandfathers are gone and could tell you they would never want me to do something just to make them happy. I think anyone who’s selfless and wants the best for someone would say the same. Good luck to him and I hope he’ll be happier closer to home.

gonna happen, as deep as our RB room is right now. Just never figured Bowman would be the one leaving. The reason does sound a little contrived, through. We will see if he really does wind up at a school closer to home, or if he develops a sudden affinity for, say, Georgia. Again, his choice to make, and if he was going to leave, glad it happened before he became a real big contributor to the offense.

Darn, I sure wasn't even dreaming of this. I'm sorry for his loss.
Very odd that his "only" reason for choosing Clemson being his grandfather. I'm not falling for that but will hold no bad feelings.
We'll be just fine but was truly excited about his future at Clemson.

The Pain Of Losing....

Oct 1, 2020, 5:41 PM

someone can be devastating for some folks . It took my mom at least 10 years to get over losing her mom at such a young age.

I hope the young man finds peace at home and good luck where ever he plays .

Oct 1, 2020, 5:39 PM

That’s a pretty stupid reason to make such an important life decision.

I am sorry that his grandfather passed away, and I hate that we won’t get to see how he does as a Clemson Tiger. I feel like he’s making an emotional decision and can’t help but wonder if there is more to the story.

Yeah I'm having trouble with that lining up with how we are the perfect place for him. But he's gone now. Its his choice

If ETN had gone pro and Bowman was getting a lot more playing time does anyone really think he'd just pack up and Leave if his grandpa died? Not making light of losing a loved one but contrived is the perfect word for this situation.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

yeah something feels off with this story

so by what he said he should transfer to either uga or g tech right?

Oct 1, 2020, 7:56 PM

If he only came to Clemson for his grandfather to see him which lived in Atlanta, why didn’t he go to Georgia or Ga. Tech? Sorry for his loss but the reason he says he came to Clemson doesn’t make sense. Probably is simply a case of homesickness along with where he is on the depth chart.
