Miami is also where he got his MBA.

D-Rad to the U seems crazy, They are the most dysfunctional athletic dept in the conference and they are not known for throwing money around (why else would their facilities be so bad), combined with a fan base that thinks it is the 90's a coach that is on the hot seat and players that have low character and it is a recipe for disaster....

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Quite the contrary, Miami is actually set up for success

Dec 5, 2021, 8:32 AM

with the right person running the department. The biggest issue is BOT influence over an AD like our little sister in Cooterville (who have a BOT, state legislature AND a governor problem)... if a good AD is left to do his job, he will clean house and build from the ground up with those who see and agree with his vision. Winning will quell the fan base and strong head coaches will create a culture that players will flock to. They really need to deal with the stadium issue but winning will soften that wart as well.

By the way, I've actually been impressed with the lack of miami players in the news for nefarious reasons, what character issues are you referring to? Maybe i've missed these incidents that you are referring to, but it seems to me that they've had no more issues than we've had in the last 10 years and certainly much less than uga, bama, miss state, baylor and a few others. Not looking to argue, just asking...

That’s why Miami needs a strong AD.

Perhaps a better and more accurate statements would be that most administrators across the country have lower character than all the players collectively .

We'll be just fine. There surely are plenty of qualified candidates for the AD job. There is certainly no reason to rush this and put a baseball coach in charge like little brother did.

Next man up.

Comparing an unpolished Tanner to what amounts to Clemson’s CEO Dabo Swinney is a fallacy! Dabo is and has been the face of this entire University and well respected for off the field more so than on.
Dabo to AD
BV to HFC

Clemson University and the Clemson Nation is grounded sufficiently to handle any transition if DR leaves. I am quite confident they will have their pick of new ADs.

I'll tell you, my head is spinning with all this but I do know this, as others have mentioned CLEMSON will be fine in the end. Whoever leaves, there will be good people waiting to take the jobs and good students and athletes who want to wear the Paw! Universities are built on change from the students to the faculty to the administration and that is what keeps them vibrant. Things will change and some years will be better than others but we will still be CLEMSON. Go Tigers!

Dan Radakovich seems like a nice guy and wish him well.

Dec 4, 2021, 9:33 AM

If Miami offers him a lot more money to do essentially the same job then who can blame him for taking a job there.

The one sentence in the article that made no since to me was:

"I had a source tell me late Friday that Radakovich has been unhappy since things changed with the ACC. Why?"

Miami is still in the ACC so if he is unhappy with the ACC he will still be dealing with them as the AD at Miami. Maybe the old adage "money can't buy happiness but it can sure make misery a lot more comfortable" is in play here...

What does that statement that he has been unhappy since the change in the ACC mean? Asking for those of us not in the know. :

Interesting statement for sure. The Swofford change happened right about the time of so many cultural and societal changes. As a transferring star DRAD would probably get more control and fewer headaches plus alot more money. Dealing with Covid revenue losses and wokeness issues might be easier in Florida.

Dec 4, 2021, 11:48 AM [ in reply to Dan Radakovich seems like a nice guy and wish him well. ]

$3 Million per year in Miami is the equivalent of about $300k per year in Pickens County adjusted for cost-of-living. Good luck to him and hope he gets good air conditioning.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I don't think it's the ACC

Dec 4, 2021, 4:11 PM [ in reply to Dan Radakovich seems like a nice guy and wish him well. ]

I think it's Clemson.

He wanted to kill the Men's XC, Indoor and Outdoor track teams and was hit with massive resistance from the kids and the alumni.

I'm certain he hated that fight they put up and losing. He tried the same thing at GT.

I get the impression he wants to do things his way and Clemson has learned to work together at all levels (Board of trustees, President, AD, coaches) which I largely think you can thank Dabo for.

That said, Miami is a private school, with less state oversight. Dan probably feels he might have more opportunity to make his decisions.

People generally don't like uncertainty and instability, but getting a new AD might be better for the overall health of the athletic department.

Maybe a new AD might stop giving stupid contact extensions.

Dec 4, 2021, 10:11 AM

I will wish him well, etc., but "don't let the door hit you where the good Lord split you".

I have never been a fan of DRad, personally. According to friends at GaTech, they were glad to see him go. If he doesn't want to be at Clemson, I don't want him to be at Clemson.

"Well, by."

There is exactly ONE person in Clemson worried about this...

Dec 4, 2021, 10:54 AM

His name is Brad Brownell.
Or maybe 2 if Judge Keller is in Clemson

Outside of our basketball situation... changing ADs won't impact us all that much.

military_donation.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Re: There is exactly ONE person in Clemson worried about this...

Dec 5, 2021, 8:40 AM

A new and smart AD would know how and where to apply pressure, and get in where you fit in in areas where success is already set up...

They would also have a vision for future success and lead the department rather than just "run" it...

It would be hard to find a more miserable place to live than Miami, especially in the heat and humidity of summer. If you think South Carolina is hot and humid in the summer go to south Florida (Miami) and spend a few days. The humidity sticks to you as soon as you walk out the door.
