Are we capable of beating them 40-13. Yes, we have the personnel to do just that. Have we put together 4 quarters yet. No. We're not consistent on either side of the ball. We'll lose leverage on defense and end up with busted coverage. ND can control and shorten the game like they did OSU. Our offense will be zipping along and we don't use that tempo. We'll call a QB draw out of nowhere. Or go to our staple WR screen and end up 2nd and 13 when we should have stretched the field.

Clemson 34 ND 17

That article was good. Hopefully we make their mistakes count. We need 4 quarters of solid O football. And 4 quarters of D like second half of Cuse game

Oh boy... Back in the 2018 Cotton Bowl I picked Clemson to win by something like 30-17. The first comment in the comments section was something like "this guy thinks we'll only score 17! What a fool." They scored 3 points. I always laugh about that guy now. Always be humble as to not become that guy who gets goofed on.

How much of that was vanilla, pre-championship season play calling? What will we see that's different now that it's championship season? How much of it is that Clemson just isn't as good as we hope?

Good analysis - after watching Syracuse vs ND, DJ has to make faster decisions, protect the ball better, not freeze up and take sacks, throw it away if his receiver is covered. Cade will be ready if DJ has another bad day.

We should be able to move the ball on them.

I don’t see ND RBs gashing our D like they did to UNC, SU and BYU. I don’t see a bunch of sacks. ND OLine in good. Best we have played thus far. Our back 7 is healthy finally and can take away the big plays and get a pick or two.

We should be able to stay with their TEs and disrupt a few throws to them.

If we can score over 30 we should win. I don’t see our D giving up 4 Tds.

Looks like it will be a very physical game. That plays to our strength. See NC State game. Just keep rolling those D linemen in and wear ND down.

ND's TE's have had good games against our D in the past... not saying that we won't win, but I see the potential for a struggle in that particular area.

It is interesting to have the question of the QB being from the opponent rather than Clemson. I do expect to get ND's best shot.

So do I. I’m really hoping they get ours, as well. We need to be firing on all cylinders on both sides of the ball and on Special Teams the rest of the season. Style points will help our image with playoff decision makers. It’s time to put it all together and to dominate completely.

Nov 1, 2022, 10:28 AM

That NDs guy here said if ND is one dimensional that it'll still be a close game.

Honestly, and maybe this is the orange Kool aid sipped early in the week here, if ND is one dimensional and their QB isn't playing well, I'm expecting Clemson to win by double digits unless our QB play is straight abysmal.

Outside of the 4 turnovers, Cuse had success because Shrader was in the zone early before we started getting to him in the 2nd half.

Anyone else have similar thoughts?

Granted, the game isn't played on paper or with speculation because you never know what you're going to get out of teenagers and young 20 yr olds week to week but I just don't see how it's a close game if ND has QB play that is average or less.

Though, I guess if you go with game trends we've seen all year, then expect Clemson to play close for 2-3 quarters before breaking away late in the 3rd or 4th.

Excellent analysis. Yeah, nd is who they are but this is their only chance at a signature win this year since they blew it against OSU. I honestly believe they'll try to break tendencies by running mostly. Really believe they'll show run and try a similar gameplan as Furman. Wes will need to adjust quickly.

But in agreement with your assessment, make them one dimensional, 3rd and long... We should win double digits. As stated above, quick offensive plays. None of this wr screen behind the chains mess. It didn't work for OSU.

I do hope we follow your advice and not throw those screens that take too long to develop and rarely result in positive gains for us. JMO

This will be a close game. It’s in South Bend. ND has a great offensive line that our D-line will have to figure out. I think the LB play will be critical. Must fill the gaps and tackle or they will run the ball. Their D is solid not elite but good. Our receivers must catch the ball. We have to limit holding calls. I think this will be a slug fest and tigers win 27-24

What worries me a little (or a lot) is that we have been mostly stout against the run, but have not done a great job each and every game with our gap integrity and/or sealing the edges. In a game like this that will probably be decided by individual players, as opposed to plays or schemes, each player is going to have to do their assignment and not try and do too much.

I don't necessarily agree with the quick passes on the perimeter. Every college team does them, and if the other receiver(s) block it should be good for 5 or 6 yards most of the time. Then on occasion we should break a long one. It puts a lot of pressure on the D backs to make plays. I can agree that a steady diet of it may not be what we want.

I totally agree, the idea that Notre Dame can be one dimensional and keep it close is laughable. One dimensional means they run the ball and they will not be successful doing it against our front 7. Their QB and WRs are not capable of taking over the game. Especially not if we are pressuring the QB. DJ will be fine as well. The offense will be balanced looking for 200 yds from both facets. And depends on field position, if we win that battle we score 40 plus.

Re: I found it interesting...

If ND can pass it enough to keep us honest, they could give us a real battle in line with the 3.5 point spread. If they are one-dimensional this may be something like 30-17.

I’m hoping we make them one dimensional. I’d love to see desperation and futility from the “Mighty ND”. I hope we stomp a mud hole in their arses and walk it dry!

I like the way you think. I’m hoping that DJ is fully up to par and we really show out on Offense. Also, I’m hoping our corners and safeties are all good now. We find out Sat.

I could be wrong, bit I feel like we gave ND the blueprint to handle Cuse... We caught and pulled away from them when we went to the running game almost exclusively (which is what ND did) against their undersized defense. ND power running vs the undersized Cuse defense was almost custom made for the Irish. That being said I personally feel like they shouldn't be as successful against our DL and as long as we cover their TE's we should hold them to minimal points... unless they score off of turnovers.

For us its the same, cut out the penalties and turnovers and just play a CLEAN game. We do that and it'll be fine, all those close wins are blowouts for us if we just eliminate the stupid stuff. Also the offense needs to play fast early and often.

I think we are taking what he said about ND being one dimensional the wrong way. That if ND is able to have success running like they did against SU then their quarterback has the stress off if him and being one dimensional won’t matter. Just my thoughts.
Either way JUST WIN!!!!!

Re: TNET: Clemson at Notre Dame Preview: Q&A with Irish Breakdown

I personally think that the key to us winning and ultimately pulling away from a one score game relies heavily on our offense. If the offense can score a couple times early DJ will be feeling good and all the pressure will be on the ND QB early. The same thought goes for them, if they score a couple times early it puts alot of pressure on DJ. This game will be decided under center early. If we take advantage early I see a 31-17 or better type of game but if we go to halftime down or tied I can see this coming down to a close one possession game late. Strap up fellas and make ur presence known in SB. Go Tigers!!!!!
