Bumps, bruises, and cut up: Venables says his defense learned from last season

Clemson defensive coordinator Brent Venables brings back a wealth of experience and talent this season, but the best thing his players have are the scars and bruises from where his players were “cut up” at times during the 2020 season. Full Story »

Where we get beat is because of being slow to get plays in when the offense runs plays fast. We looking and they are running.

As was said on Wide World of Sports a few years ago, "The thrill of victory and the agony of defeat". I've always said that one cannot really appreciate the thrill of victory without having experienced the agony of defeat. I think we saw enough defensive agony at Clemson last year to last a while. JMO I hope, and I think, our defensive unit, and our team, feels the same way.

We just have to get heat on the QB from our front 4. Tyler Davis and Bresee have to stay healthy and the backups need to come through. Then, Clemson has always had top DE's and they need to dominate like guys from the past. Can't keep blitzing on every play and expect that to work. No DB can stay on top WRs that long and we need pressure and lots of it.
I love Skalski and he also needs to stay on the field.

Over all, though, it's very exciting.

BV learned as well as the players as Ryan Day schooled our coaches on several quick start plays. Ohio State made big gains as Clemson vets looked to the sideline.

2021 will be payback time if Clemson Defense can get faster tougher players on the field with more reps. In BV we trust!
