Back to Work: Swinney updates Williams injury, quarterback depth chart

Back to work. Clemson head coach Dabo Swinney told the media Wednesday evening that his Tigers have had a great three days of practice, and he has loved how his team has responded since last weekend’s loss to Georgia. When asked the mindset of his team, Swinney said it was back to work, for the players and the coaches. Full Story »

That's why coaches coach, not fans. Disappointment not blame and work to get better.

All good things to hear. Got to put them to work now or that is all there is, talk. Let’s go Tigers!

Love the optimism of the staff and coach swinney but it will status quo week in and out until Putnam and Brockhorst are off this OL…

Putnam and Brokhurst were not the problem up front.

It’s disappointing to hear that there are some unvaccinated players and coaches. Just disappointing and I’ll leave it at that, unless we have to forfeit a game.

Players and Coaches, think for themselves and don't give in. Glad that they've exercised their right, as an American, to make their own decisions regarding their own health and healthcare.

I find it encouraging as well. It's their choice as it should be.

think for themselves and don't give in.

This mindset is what gets me. Don't give in to what, expert opinion? Or is it overwhelming evidence of efficacy and safety? Don't give in to pressure to do what's best for personal and public health? The average person isn't qualified enough on most matters to where their opinion is equal to an expert in a field. So yeah, "thinking for yourself" in a situation like this is equivalent to saying, "I'm going to be contrarian because it makes me feel good." Get over yourself.

Its very disappointing that you are disappointed in teenage boys who think differently than you. Note I have been vaccinated and think it is the smart play but i am not disappointed if someone else chooses differently. Guess some cant hide their inner karen...

He was a young QB facing a great defense who spent most of the night running for his life. He didn't play very well except for the 80 yard drive. A lot of other people didn't play well either; but, he didn't point them out or sulk. He took his lumps and was first one in the film room Sunday morning.

Dabo's primary mission in life is building character in young men (not football coach). Saturday was a character building day and he passed the test.

The offenses tied. Their defense was 7 points and 6 sacks better than ours. Their win hinged on a great play by a rangy old safety. It could easily have happened the other way against a top-5 matchup in the opener. This team is going to win a lot of games and still has an inside shot at the playoffs.

Dabo is thrilled and I think we can all agree that he can out coach Kirby Smart by 8 points in the next three months, even if we would rather have won the game.

Do not think they would have scored 3 pts or had that last

drive if Tyler Davis was playing.

Well, isn't that "special" -- Dabo's word of the day.

Not sure what you are trying to say, but you do remember Bowden? Right? I think his words are pretty special and Dabo is a special coach and one of the very best in the entire country. Sure, it's fine to have your own opinion and not be happy with a loss, but come on.

You are overthinking it. I was just commenting on how many times he used the word "special" in articles yesterday.

- "special group"
- "special player"
- "special guy"
- "special person"
(from article also yesterday: "Dabo Swinney on "amazing, amazing place" that is Clemson, pageantry of college football")
- "makes college football special"
- "makes Clemson special"
- "Because this place is special"
- "simplicity of life here that makes it special""
- "There’s just this energy and connectivity with being a part of the university that’s special."

We changed all the other players for several down, why not the qb for a series or more if it works out? Sometimes viewing form the sideline enables you to get a different perspective, like all the tiger net coaches.

Sep 9, 2021, 7:36 AM

I'm not knocking the coaches, but offering my two cents would have been to put in a wildcat type QB for a series or two. See what would happen and give DJ time to gather himself. The catcher walking out to calm down the pitcher analogy.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Re: TNET: Back to Work: Swinney updates Williams injury, quarterback depth chart

Sep 9, 2021, 4:52 PM

That wouldn't have done anything. The Wildcat isn't anything special if you can't run the ball.

So Taisun and Hunter are now the starters and DJ is the backup???? I'm assuming that was a typo. On the OL, let's get one person to play ONE position and then worry about playing 5 don't you think.
