Hope the staff can seal the deal & keep him home

especially since he's #1 recruit in the state. Given missing out on Pendleton & w/ Absher trending toward ND lately according to experts, we need to make a splash on the OL recruiting.

He's gone. We do need to make a splash but it's going to be an uphill challenge when (a) Clemson has struggled to put linemen in the NFL (I think it's four this decade, with only Carman going in the top 3 rounds), (b) the offensive line has been a major weak link for 2 years now and shows no signs of improvement, and (c) Austin is entirely unproven.

Remind me exactly what ND has won in the past decade. All I remember is seeing them BLOWN OUT in the post season. Maybe it is the wonderful weather in South Bend in December--March.

TNetters want to judge CJ on recruiting, but this will be a

huge referendum on Thomas Austin’s recruiting prowess.
Getting a highly recruited instate guy like Freeling pretty much seems like a “must” ...
We have to keep the Palmetto State kids (that we want) home.

No one has really seen Austin coach. Caldwell was still the coach for the bowl and the Spring Game will always favor the defense because the OL needs that chemistry, that understanding, that coordination that develops over time. We have good players on the OL. If they can come together this year, we will land some of our top linemen. I think it works in our favor that he Freeling is in no hurry to decide. If the OL and the Offense is substantially better than last year, as I expect, Freeling and others will be more attracted. I like our chances.

yes its bothersome how glowing his recao of ND is. However, no one is sticking out as a favorite according to national pundits & definitely sounds like he's not in a rush. Gives us time w/ a new OL coach to to help make our case as the season goes on. Both sides are having to break in new pieces (us w/ offensice assistants, ND with a new HC & some assistants as well). There's gonna be time for plenty of folks to make & break their cases by time he makes his decision, hopefully our staff (& a rebound this season) can make the best case as the year goes on.

Another excellent article (with powerful interview quotes), Ms. Hood.
I'm not as pessimistic as with the other posters.
No one (and certainly not young Mr. Freeling) has seen Notre Dame play under their new HC.
Who knows? Maybe Notre Dame won't look so good on game day, and maybe their new HC won't come off as being Mr. Perfect once he's under pressure (when N.Dame loses some games that they shouldn't lose).
But no sense in being foolishly optimistic, either. The other colleges are coming on fast with their pitches; the more places Mr. Feeling sees then the probability for us getting him drops.
Again, super fine article!

Looks like we are, once again, missing on our O-Line recruits.

We used to say "good education," but that doesn't seem to be much of an incentive anymore.
