2022 NFL Draft could have different look for the Tigers

The 2021 NFL Draft is in the books, and it was another productive draft for the Clemson football program. What will the 2022 draft bring for the Tigers? An early look tells us it’s the chance at a lot more draft picks. Full Story »

Exactly the point that it was not surprising that last year's team did not win it all, we were a young team and not as much talent across the board. People are taking shots at their favorite NFL teams for not drafting our players but the league is a different animal from college. In college, kids pick their school but totally opposite in the draft. NFL coaches, General Managers and owners draft for need and with only 5 Tigers of over 200 players drafted, over team cannot pick one of our guys. Happy when we have a draft pick but no need to get worked up if other players are drafted.

I have seen Booth in some 1st round discussion as well. I could see him and Tyler Davis having that kind of year to elevate them to 1st round discussion from the defensive side. Mcfadden is going to be really good, but he doesn't have the measurables for a 1st rd grade. Ross is basically a lock if healthy, and Ngata could play his way up there as well. Definitely a more exciting team on paper than last year, which goes to show how everyone elevated their talent and still made the playoffs and did well (probably had a lot to do with Trevor & Travis). This team is more complete with the experience and weopens we'll have on offense that were absent almost all of last year.

They could and hopefully have good years but that’s a lot of talent but not a lot jump off as superstars yet. Health will be the key for both sides of the ball. Our huge draft class is still a year away.. Go Tigers

One other important factor to consider is the national perception of the ACC. How many games a year do NFL scouts honestly get to watch our guys play decent competition? It is hard to evaluate a player who only plays half a game against vastly inferior talent. The game against Georgia is huge both for the team and the players that will be draft eligible.

Literally no one in the NFL cares about the perception of the ACC. The league is perennially in the top 3 for draft picks. Only SEC goobers and talking head's care about league perception.

Gottigers81 is exactly right. There were 46 players drafted from ACC teams not named Clemson and the Coots even had the first defensive player drafted. Trey Lance only started 17 games, I think, for North Dakota State and was drafted 3rd overall. Though the teams might not show it, there is NFL talent everywhere, and our guys will have plenty of chances to prove themselves against it.

If everyone on this list has a big year:

1st: Tyler Davis, Justyn Ross

2-3: Andrew Booth, Joseph Ngata, Xavier Thomas

4-7: Braden Galloway, Mario Goodrich, Jordan McFadden, BT Potter

UFA: Matt Bockhorst, James Skalski, Baylon Spector, Will Spiers, Nolan Turner

Good list. Agree that Ross and Davis have the top potential. Booth has skills and brains and could outperform as you have noted.

Do not see Goodrich being drafted or even playing after mid-season. Ladson, Henry, Mascoll, and McFadden (OG) could develop into late round picks.

Post 2022/23 and 2023/24 seasons will be a big draft years for Clemson Tigers.

Mario is one of the ones that would have to have a huge year. He has the measurables. If he started with Booth, had a good year, and had a decent 40, then he’ll get drafted. Day 3 at best though.

Though I think that Tyler Davis will have a 1st round type of career in the NFL, I don't think that he will go until later. Defensive tackles do not get the attention of other positions, and he is small by NFL standards.

That being said, I think that he has almost a linebacker's sense for the ball and a competitiveness that sets him apart. I don't think that he goes in the first round, but I do think that he ends up being the biggest steal of the 2022 draft.

I think he would fit great as a 3 technique in a 4-3 scheme. A big year could propel him into the 1st round. He could be one of the top 2-3 interior defensive lineman in the draft. Could be a late 1st rounder if he has an All-ACC/American year.

I don't think McFadden will be drafted..

McFadden was one of the highest grades OTs in the country last year. I view him as a bigger Tremayne Anchrum. McFadden definitely gets drafted.

No shot on Bockhorst. He’s not big enough to be an IOL in the NFL.

Charleston and Zanders potentially making the jump is laughable after the way they were brutalized through the air by OSU. They looked like they didn’t even belong on the field.
