Times are Changing

Jan 15, 2022, 12:36 AM

And the Tigers need to change and stop complaining. News flash to all Tiger fans, NIL and the transfer portal are here and are now a part of the sport. Just because Dabo doesn’t like it and refuses to adapt to the new landscape doesn’t mean it isn’t ‘the right way’. This isn’t McDonalds bags under the table at Tennessee. These are NCAA approved things. While these will certainly be regulated in the future, for now it’s a necessary and allowed part of the sport so stop complaining and adapt to the current state of the sport, or enjoy a lot more Cheezit Bowls.

So what it sounds like you're saying

Jan 15, 2022, 2:20 AM

is these NIL type deals, which just started this past season, have been a part of building your team that came out on top this past season, a team with mostly sophomore, junior, and senior starters. So you're saying these NIL endorsement deals were your "bags under the table" in years past. And you're pretending it was just Tennessee. The NIL legitimized some of your recruiting practices.

Funny how quickly NIL became such a recruiting tool when it's intent was for student-athletes to profit from the use of their name, image, and likeness when the school was also profiting from it. Now athletes are profiting before the school gets any return on their investment, schools that are taking a chance on them and offering them valuable scholarships that other students spend a small fortune on.

Thanks for feeling the need to preach to Clemson fans. We are well aware that adjustments are necessary, as is Dabo. We might not love all aspects of the changing landscape of college football (such as the downgrading of education), but we will adjust and move on.

You might want to rethink your comment about Dabo. Dabo decides what is the "right way" for his team.

If we have to essentially become a semi-pro farm team

Jan 15, 2022, 5:38 AM

for the NFL and buy/pay players as a high bidder in order to remain an “elite” football program, no thanks. Clemson is about having players who value teaching and education just as much as playing football.

If a high school player values making bank over what Clemson offers him long term in life, then he doesn’t fit the character for Clemson. Let those players go elsewhere.

Will that allow those schools who work to out bid others in order to acquire such misguided players to surpass Clemson on the field? Perhaps. But that is ok. Clemson will never sell it soul to the devil to buy championships. UGA, Bama, Texas, Miami, LSU can all go on their merry way to buy the best semi pro football team. Clemson will remain a program that focuses on the student athlete aspect of athletics first and foremost.

I dont have to adapt to something I disagree with.

If this continues as is, I will lose interest, as will many others IMO.

Same here. I watched my first NFL game in a couple of years last week (Raiders/Chargers) and it was a great game. If college football becomes just another pro league, I will watch the NFL. I hate NIL and won’t buy from any company that pays college athletes. I no longer eat at Bojangles or drink Dr. Pepper, even though it was my go to soft drink. Luckily there is Cheerwine and a Popeye’s chicken near me.

Yep. If I want to watch pros, I’ll just watch the highest level of that, the NFL.***

Dawg

Jan 15, 2022, 9:53 AM

The transfer portal is essentially robbing college degrees from a majority of DA college athletes.

NIL will last only as far as fans (the money) allow it to. I give it 5 more years before so many fans leave the sport due to it's lopsided money-infused, under-the-table type of payment going through LLC's.

All that being said, after 2/3s of your starters jump ship for the NFL, UGA'll get to wonder through the desert of mediocrity for another 40 years.

Do not worry, you like it on top of your Dawg. Ga want be competing with the Texas or OSU schools money. You will be in the same boat as will a majority of teams, but thanks for the heads up. No one on TNets call on what Clemson will do but again thanks for letting us know.
