Time for a new oline coach...
Sep 23, 2017, 10:04 PM
|
|
too much talent to be getting blown off the line by a team that struggled to stop an average ND team. 7 years of the same oline coach and it's always on the QB to complete crucial passes or crucial runs in order for wins. We broke the game open on two good passes by Bryant to Renfrow and then one to Overton on the drive to go ahead 14-7. At some point we need to win by being able to run the ball in short yardage situations and the oline opening holes for the RB's to make big plays.
Glad we won, but at some point the oline has to do it's job instead of the defense and skill players on offense always having to be the ones who make the plays to win the game. They definitely need to block a whole lot better next week.

Explain how it's poor Oline coaching? Did you want him fired after the national championship game or does one game change your mind? That one game being today with 340+ rushing yards.

I do think the OL played poorly for three quarters.BC had something to do with that. When the fourth quarter rolled around I think their blocking was quite good. Maybe it took that long to wear them out. We did dominate the fourth quarter.

You're right there shouldn't have been such a contested game like that with this team, but it wasn't all on the o line. Some of KB's inexperience showed today. The press coverage & blitzes got too him & even the snap-throw plays weren't very good for him. He held the ball on several plays that turned into sacks. To say the o line coach needs to be replaced is an assinine statement. A stacked box is a tough running situation. That's where the screens should've come into play but KB seemed to be lobbing fhe throws on them which allowed the db's to react & work against the blocks. As far as what I would've done differently I would've called more pressure releif routes & had them as the second read in progression to get KB doing less thinking & to force BC to loosen the box. And I would've had KB making only two reads yhen pulling the ball down & going. As BC had to adjust to covering more side to side on the field or committing a LB to spy on KB I would've tried to exploit the void with slants that would've stopped the blitz heavy stuff. I believe in dictating on offense, not just looking for what the defense is giving you. Sometimes I think that philosophy is an achellies heel in our play calling. All that said I don't think anyone on Dabo's staff should be replaced

Tiger king, it's pretty obvious to me that you are the one lacking football knowledge. You sound like a coot. "Fire the OL coach, he sucks, our blocking sucks, it's terrible" blah blah blah. After another 4-0 start, THIS is what you complain about? Then, when no one agrees with you, all of a sudden, no one knows anything about football except you. LOL If you're not happy with Clemson, their coaches and the way we play four quarters of football, then get a six pack, kick your dog, and find another team. 41-3 the last 44 games and you come on with this line of BS? Just stop. You're embarrassing yourself.

The o-line play wasn't great but there was a lot of areas that were bad today. The biggest issue with the line is the RT. Run game was solid all game. No they didn't break off the big runs until the 4th but they were getting 5 yards a carry majority of the time and you don't know how much of that is on the backs missing holes or just good defensive plays. They were never "stuffed" when they needed a yard for the first down and every run isn't going to get 5+ no matter how great your line is. The pass blocking wasn't great but there were times Kelly had time and just held the ball. He played way to tight trying not to mess up. I think the success had him pushing to much to maintain the same numbers he had at L'ville. Nothing today was great other than #9 but there is no need to start hollering for coaches to be fired after a win.

"The offensive line was not good. There weren’t many holes for the running backs to dart through, and quarterback Kelly Bryant didn’t have much time to look over the field and find open receivers. A line that played pretty well for the first three games – with maybe the exception of right guard – was pushed around and controlled by the Eagles’ defensive front."

So 28-2 over the last two years, a natty and a natty runner up is unacceptable for line play? How long have you been living, son? I lived through Hootie Ingram and 1975 when the dirtpeckers beat us 56-20.Throwing a deep touchdown in the final plays. Clemson has never had an Oline to compare with this one, not in 81 or 78, 89, not ever. Every team has a sub-par game. You need to try to relax. Start firing people who have done a very good job is a path to oblivion. We may lose some time this year, but it is not a time to lose our minds.

I don't agree at all with your thesis. I do agree we have several things we need to clean up with protections, execution, and perhaps play design in a couple of cases.
I believe our entire coaching staff and players will look at today's performance, learn the right lessons, and continue to make the appropriate adjustments.
On to VT. Go Tigers!
