Tiger TV Taken Down

Mar 30, 2020, 11:37 AM

Well, folks...the YouTube channel was taken down today by XOS Sports. I received my first-ever copyright strike on the national championship game this year (LSU game). Since that occurred, I had gone through YouTube's process for having the strike removed, which was due to occur on April 30. However, today, I received an email saying I had been taken down.

I've still got everything on my home server/computer. Any thoughts as to where to go next?

I can only assume it was one of the small, insecure LSU corn dogs that are obsessed with us and still on this board.

The strike from the LSU game was actually prompted by Veritone, which is an AI platform partnered with ESPN.

I wondered how long that was going to take! But I did get to watch once.

I had thought my setup was pretty strong, in terms of not getting actual strikes. I never monetized a video...ever. Not once did YouTube ever send me money for views or ad revenue/interactions.

The interesting part that most didn't understand was that most of my videos were marked as copyright infringing (by the owners...most were Veritone or XOSDigitalSports) on the back end of things (YouTube studio); however, each of them were done so in a way that allowed them all to stay on YouTube, under the circumstances that revenue generated by the channel that would normally go to the channel owner (me) would go to the owner of that content. So those companies were actually making revenue, I suppose, from my channel.

I saw comments on games all the time claiming I was monetizing content for personal gain (because people wanted a full no-ad experience), and that simply wasn't true. The content was marked with advertisements, due to the content owner requiring it to be so that they could make revenue off of allowing the content to exist.

My mind wonders to what extent the economic shutdown impacted any of these types of things, but one can go in a hundred different directions with his mind if he allows himself to think that way. Though it really is interesting to think about.

Still love the content thanks to 4K video downloader. Time to act like the Chinese and head to the deep web.

Thank you so very much for the time and effort you spent. I was a regular watcher of course of football but really was looking forward to softball and baseball. I would be willing to pay for whatever format you can come back in. Donation or otherwise. I think there has to be a way. Otherwise those games go the way of our family photos. My wife downloads them to the computer and poof! Never seen again. It's just sad

About 12 years ago, a fellow in Greenwood burned his game collection to DVDs. He then offered them to anyone interested in getting copies. All he asked was a "donation" to pay for the DVDs that he had to purchase. I got 10 games from him and donated $30.00. It was a great deal. Don't know if this will work for you or not. Just a thought. Go Tigers!

That's a huge copyright infringement. Maybe he got away with it but you sure don't want to be on the wrong side of one of those cases.

You could set up your own Plex server and serve up all of your videos via that by private invite to friends: https://www.plex.tv/

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Re: Tiger TV Taken Down

Mar 30, 2020, 1:51 PM

I have a Plex server at home for my media. The only problem with the idea you suggested is having to keep the server on 24/7 for people to be able to view any time they want. Providing remote access is possible, but the larger the audience, the slower the processing becomes. In other words...it really would only be for a select few "friends," instead of a broader audience.

One of the main reasons I kept doing this, especially during football season when demand from people is so high and can be quite stressful, was because of the number of military individuals based all over the world who would send me private messages telling me how grateful they were for the channel, due to it being the only, or by far the easiest, way they could watch Clemson games.

Re: Tiger TV Taken Down

Apr 5, 2020, 9:01 AM

Options that I see:
Plex server hosted on a Google Drive. But this would incur monthly costs to host and serve.

Add the library to another Plex Server that someone else hosts, but this would require each person to pay a monthly subscription to join that Plex Server.

Completely free: Make the videos Unlisted on Youtube, and make an Unlisted Playlist that is carefully and privately shared among TNet/TCI users with a minimum pulse/posts. This playlist would never be posted publicly, and it would only be shared with verified Clemson Tiger fans. New games can be added to the playlist, and each person who receives the playlist can add that unlisted playlist to their own Youtube account, making future access very easy.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I've got all the football games on my Plex server.

When will they let you back? #### that’s actually sad news. I always check the channel out.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Re: Tiger TV Taken Down

Mar 30, 2020, 1:30 PM

They won't. Once they take down a channel, your Google account can no longer be tied to any YouTube channel. One would then think to just create a new email address, but that seems to be something that would show premeditation to circumvent the rules/law. Not sure I want to be in the business of showing extra effort to break copyright law.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Sorry to hear that. Thank you so much for what you did.

Sucks that this happened to tigerray several years back, now you as well. Was great to go back & watch old games or to have a backup if missed a game one weekend. Most games aren't given a second thought in most cases after they air.

Hope that there's a message from you soon saying that either your channel is back up or that there will be a new channel in the works.

I have wondered before if since Clemson is one of the people on the copyright list or whatever it is called if you could go through them to provide the content. It seems like they would have legal authority and could make money in the way of paid memberships or commercials. Personally I would pay monthly to have access to past games they way you had it set up

All I know is that I cancelled Youtube TV with all my recorded CLEMSON games with the assurance that Tiger TV had my back and I could still access all the games. Now I won't be able to watch football all summer long.

Maybe CLEMSON needs their own network to televise the games and have them available to all CLEMSON fans anytime they wish to re-watch the games. It seems like everyone that currently broadcasts the games refuse to allow you to ever see them again.
