He wanted to surprise the team. They came out and warmed up in white and went to the locker room and orange pants were hanging in every locker. it was to motivate the team and it did.

because we got crushed the week prior against Maryland and SC was on their way to the Hall of Fame bowl with the Heisman winner. I believe he thought we needed a "little sumin sumin to get us fired up plus they look cool.

When the buses got to the top of the hill the team did not get off as the normally do as the band finishes the National Anthem. When they got off it was O-V-E-R. Fried Chicken baby. Loved the next year as the Chickens kept the worst secret in the world and came out in all black. Beat down on the way to the National Championship baby.

Entering the South Carolina game in 1980 Danny was looking for a way to motivate the team. He recalled Bear Bryant and crimson pants during his playing days at Alabama. The team did warm ups in the white pants and returned to the locker room to find orange britches. Clemson won that day over a favored SC team that featured George Rogers. and the legend of the Orange pants was born.

The real difference was as I am sure some of you may remember was a TV show. The gamecocks stayed up too late on Friday night watching Dallas to find out that a gamecock shot JR.
