Three or four times last night on zone reads DJ could’ve kept it

Oct 3, 2021, 2:44 PM

And picked up big yardage, don’t know why he won’t keep it on zone reads

He clearly doesnt read it well

He is blind on the field even when he runs he runs right up into his own players. He is a pro set QB trying to run a complete opposite O.
It’s the Coaches fault and with 2 weeks they should be able to make something work.
But I bet it will be the same ole same ole that every team has figured out.

When you don’t use this offense prior to coming to college it’s hard to pick up unless you’re a playbook student. Sorry Deshaun was picture perfect for our offense. He was in #### near the exact offense in HS. Lawrence was just a generational Qb. He didn’t have this offense but was a great thrower and the running aspect was learned later. DJ was in an offense where he was the best player on the field and was bigger than everyone and it shows. RPO must not have been a big thing at his school. Mater Dei used it a lot with Bryce but not with Daniels so it shows there. Daniels was more of a passer and a statue and still is. Same with DJU. This offense isn’t built for that. He needs a spread offense where he gets the ball and gets rid of it. This offense is predicated on our WRs winning battles and they aren’t and DJ doesn’t know what to do when they are covered. He’s gotta pull it down and run. But he’s too hesitant to do so.

Great points. When he committed, he knew what our offense was/is. Obviously there was discussion as to what would happen. He had to indicate he wanted to run it... Yes/NO?

He's definitely a baller and dedicated. He's been here nearly 20 months. Same with his mechanics, should that not have been a day 1 thing. Or is it just an easier solution to fit one guy to it than 40 others...

Is it a case where DJ indicates he wants to run it and learn the rpo because so many NFL teams are adopting it now and Dabo promised the kid he'd be given a chance to learn it type thing?

I really don’t see the Tigers return to the top with DJ at quarterback. The coaches say that he is the best we have. If that is true we are in for a couple more loses and NO championship. He makes a good play and makes a lousy play the next three snaps. The BC quarterback was considerably better than el cinco ..imo . Last nights win was made possible by the amazing fans who came to this game. That last quarter was among the loudest I’ve heard in years. The trip to Syracuse in a couple of weeks will be tough UNLESS the QB can take control of the game. He has yet to show me that he can. Pitt will be even more difficult for DJs team. I’m glad we have Wake at home. The fans will have to be ready too.

Boyd. Watson. Lawrence and now DJ. Is he going to become all world in the next few weeks?

I agree. I think I remember DW4 HS changed their offense to what Clemson was running and it allowed him to be prepared when he arrived here.

There is a difference between making the wrong read on occasion and never making the read at all, I'm a DJ supporter but he has to keep the ball if we are going to run the play. Defenses are not respecting the play and crashing down, the idea is to make the end read the play, ends job is generally to contain. So far the book on the play for defenses is DJ will not pull the ball and get to the PO part of RPO or run on the zone read. No idea why, I thought it was to limit his exposure (get hurt) but they are calling planned runs for him so....

How do you know those are not straight designed runs where's he's told to hand it off. They changed that a couple weeks ago. We didn't run alot of rpo and we honestly should have but they said they were trying to simplify things more. Its basically the same stuff tboyd ran more straight designed QB runs. Instead of rpo runs. And the reason you can tell it's not and rpo is how the Oline reacts and goes straight down hill or attempts to is the better word but the line was a little better with hunter at center

And for those who think dj can't lead Clemson to where they need to go . Just really don't understand how football works to be successful. It takes 11 not 1

I KNOW that a Quarterback who has control of his team and has the skills and mindset to make good decisions on the field will likely have success. I don’t see these skills in DJ. I’m not sure his teammates are truly “all in” with him. Confidence is vital. TL and DW exuded with it and it spread like a virus among their teammates.

BC played this entire game with their backup QB after their no. 1 guy was injured. BC has an excellent coaching staff and they will be a tough opponent for everyone.

BC's backup has started 3 times as many

games as DJ and holds the school record for passing yards in a game.

DJ has a long way to go, but let's be realistic here.
