Those 20 Clemson Transfers David Pollack Speaks of...

Oct 4, 2021, 10:21 PM

I really don't think losing these guys has caused Clemson to be worse this year.
They have only lost 1 OL. And 6 QB/RB.

11 from the defense, that is still one of the best in the country.

As Dabo mentioned tonight...most of the transfers were guys who were out recruited and would no longer start. So at best they are losing 2nd string guys.

Could they have gotten better players as replacements? I'll have to keep digging before I can say yes or no. See my other post from tonight for transfer numbers on other Top 25 teams.

Mike Jones and Chez would have been big contributors

Contributors? Definitely. Starters? I don't think so. Now it would be nice to have Chez, but I doubt that anybody would have expected him to get a lot of carries going into the year. As for Jones, I think that Simpson would have started in front of him. I was disappointed to see him leave, but I would have been more disappointed if it had been Trenton Simpson.

Roster Management…..

I wonder how far under the 85 we are right now

2024 white level memberbadge-donor-20yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I think we have 84 on scholarship this year.***

No we used about 81 and awarded several scholarships this

fall, mostly to walk-on WRs

2024 white level member flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

So you're saying we awarded 3 schoarships to walk-on Wrs

Oct 5, 2021, 11:08 PM

So that means we have 84 on scholarship, like I said.

Who are the 3 walk-on receivers you're offended by?

The problem is you need to replace some with transfers.

Oct 4, 2021, 10:43 PM

Otherwise, your roster management gets way out of whack.

It already came back to bite us at QB.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

So are you saying it bit us in the butt at QB because

Oct 4, 2021, 10:46 PM

we should have anticipated DJ would have be mentally struggling?

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

No. Thin and inexperienced. Many transfers have been around

Oct 4, 2021, 11:18 PM

for 2 or 3 years. So instead of having a 21 yr old who has been in your system for 3years, you replace him with a freshman.

Not speaking only at QB but just in general. If you replace upperclassman transfers with high school recruits, certain position groups can lack experience. Then, you can’t recruit those players the next year because they are all the same age.

If you only have transfers exiting the program, then you never get to develop guys. It messes up you roster management. At some point you’ve got to replace transfers with transfers. Not a 1:1 ratio, but maybe 1:2.

Well, I can see bringing in a guy to add depth in the event

Oct 4, 2021, 11:21 PM

of injury, but I'm pretty sure TP is the #2 regardless.

I don't see any other positions on the field where we'd benefit from having transfers.

We are not benefiting from having an backup qb this year. Not sure how he could be much worse.

If that were the case, wouldn't we have a huge number of Freshman recruits? We had 19 last year which is less than a quarter of the scholarship players. Two of those happened to be QB's, even if they were not expected to be in the QB room in a year or two.

The risk you take with transfer portal. You pick your guy and have to understand it’s tough to keep 5 and 4 stars that will just sit there while another plays. Clemson has dealt with it a lot in recent years, but the starters that stayed have obviously worked out.

Have no idea how Alabama has keep a lot of those people.

Great analysis Mothertiger. Thank you for showing the real data/situation. But be careful, some of the fair-weather, short time band wagon Clemson “fans” can’t deal with facts, only emotion!?? Facts and data confuse their little minds. And I put David Pollock in the “little mind” category since he’s a UGa guy. He’s just looking to be controversial so he can get a permanent seat at the Game Day bench when Corso finally leaves.

The more glaring fact for me is now you have 20 guys out there that know our system/scheme inside and out. I'm not dumb enough to think that our coaches don't change things up but is it to the point we have screwed up our offense? I would be willing to bet it played somewhat of a role in the GA game with DK.
