Just doesn’t add up . . . Dabo thought enough of him to give him a big raise and try to lock him up with a clause that forces OU to pay 25% of the value of the deal . . . And BV obviously wanted him bad, because he got OU to pony up . . . D Line has been performing . . . What am I missing?

Re: Self-explanatory***

Jan 6, 2022, 8:56 AM

I think that it is basically a lot of people butt hurt that we missed on Shaw. They forget that we won the battle against UNC for Page a year ago. They also ignore the fact that Eason will be replacing him at defensive line coach and his recruiting coordinator role, that I would agree that he underperformed at, will likely go to someone else.

I like the hire of Eason, but there is no need to cry "sour grapes" about Bates. He made us a better program while he was here, and now it is time to turn the page.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Re: Self-explanatory***

Jan 6, 2022, 9:29 AM

I’ve seen some speculation that Bates was not representing Clemson during recent recruiting. Implying he was basically planning to leave after the bowl game and had the move to OU in the works. No idea how someone outside the program would know this unless they have been getting info from recruits.

I think what David was saying is that this hire could not feel like a lateral hire or one where we hired a guy that had no experience because I D line has been a critical piece to our success on defense the last 12+ years. I personally don’t think it was anything negative about Bates!!

I'm hoping it means back filling with someone as good as Eason - Player, NFL PLAYER - NFL COACH

I mean that's the ceiling for a hire like this .....

Also part of a Super Bowl winning Team, and if Eason is brought in, he will be the first Super Bowl Clemson player to come back to be a coach at Clemson, and that T-Netters, should mean a boost in recruiting on that side of the ball bc he has been there, and he knows what it takes to get there!!!!

Time to welcome a Clemson man back home!

Nick was the man as a player, and it looks like he will do it again as a coach!

He already knows Clemson is special!

You know, when I first heard this my thought was, "Dabo pulled another rabbit out of his hat, this was a great pick." But what an idiot I am! Once looked over the threads on this board I learned how incapable Dabo really is and how Eason really doesn't have much of an ability to convey anything of worth to a young lineman. Thank goodness there are a few T Netter's who are absolute sages. Perhaps next time Dabo will consult them first.

Somewhere in this great bit of news, you find something to complain about. You must be a real blast at parties.

On top of that, make up things about people not being happy with the Eason hire in general.

Feel free to complain all you want but don't make up $hit.

Jan 6, 2022, 8:43 AM

Hope everything proceeds without delay, but this was a bold, quick, decisive move at precisely the right time given the circumstances. Coach Eason's resume is impressive. He's a true Clemson man as a former standout player with NFL experience - including a Super Bowl ring - NFL coaching experience with 3 teams - and a solid recruiter and DL coach in college. He will be a great mentor to the players, here. Excited about Coach Eason coming back home to Clemson. Well done, Dabo.

Re: This would be a great hire. Couldn't be happier about it.

Jan 6, 2022, 11:00 AM

Any time a Clemson man like Nick Eason states publicly that Clemson was home, and a place that he would love to come back to, and coach at. When it's somebody that has the qualifications that Nick Eason has in hand, and if there is spot open that needs his expertise, you're a dumb A$$ if you don't grab this man up and put him to work soon as possible, if not sooner!!!! Just saying that,

if I was in a position to hire someone like a Nick Eason with the qualifications that he has in what ever business I was in, as an employer, I would make a spot for that kind of person until I really needed them, and their expertise, bc, it's always better to have that bird in hand, than to have to search far and wide for such a person with the same qualifications of a Nick Eason.

It's my opinion that Nick is more than qualified to fill the position that he's desperately needed in on the defensive side of the ball, plus he's a person of need to help in keeping our recruiting at the same high level as before, and Nick is well suited for all of the above as a proven coach with more than enough of FB coaching experience!!!

How Close is this to being a done deal...

Jan 6, 2022, 8:48 AM

Why not say it's the bottom of the ninth, bases empty, two outs, and an 0-2 count?
Would seem to stay with the baseball theme.

It scares me with all the "expected" language - maybe Auburn will give him an offer he can't refuse? I don't think this should be written while negotiations are still going on - assuming they are.

Although Eason has Clemson ties, his coaching resume is respectable and completely away from Clemson. Some of the resumes on staff look pretty slim especially when you look past the Clemson experience. This isn't the case with Eason.

Just take out the fact that he played and starred at Clemson. WHO has a better resume than Coach Eason, as a player and coach at the HIGHEST LEVEL? HOW DO YOU GET BETTER THAN THAT? It was stated “If it works?” HOW come would it not? Who out there WOULD be BETTER than Coach Eason?

I think “HOMERUN HIRE” is what it is. I think it is an upgrade and will be a MAJOR benefit to Wes Goodwin. The sky did not fall when Bates left, the sky didn’t fall when Bates left. The sky is the LIMITS with the Eason hire.

GO COACH EASON AND GO TIGRS!!!!!!!

Bates comes off as soft to me. Never met the guy, but I don’t think it’s too hard to get production from guys like Bresee, Davis, and Murphy. And, as others have asked, where are their replacements (recruiting)?

Re: TNET: Swinney hits it out of the park with expected hiring of Nick Eason

Jan 6, 2022, 9:09 PM [ in reply to Re: TNET: Swinney hits it out of the park with expected hiring of Nick Eason ]

Gridfan, to your comment "what does it say about Swinney his hiring and promotion?" ... the hiring of Nick Eason shows (again) that Dabo can hire top end assistant coaches (whether from the inside or from the outside). The pending success for landing N.Eason also reflects that Dabo is prepared for the attrition that typically takes place among assistant coaches who work at top end programs.

It is even more impressive that Dabo, having experienced extraordinary retention of assistant coaches over the years, was ready ready ready for replacements when the time had come. In other words, unlike HC's which are accustomed to staff turnover each year, Dabo was ready to go even though he had no very recent 'experience' in needing to hire new assistant coaches.

Dabo is clearly a leader who prepares for situations that might not happen frequently ... but that when the DO happen, he's got his contingency plan in place and can deploy it quickly.

As for coaching quality, a successful NFL D-Line coach who can compare what is expected from both high end college D-linemen and from NFL D-lineman is hard to surpass.

As others have posted, any inexperience that N.Eason may have with respect to recruiting can be refined by working with Dabo. N.Eason's sincerity and empathy for players is the foundation for a successful recruiter, so he brings that with him as he arrives at Clemson.
