This past weekend has been tough...

My golden retriever Shadow male was not feeling well the past two weeks. I came home from work last Wednesday and he usually would greet me at the door and then would run into the family room find a stuffed animal and prance around with it like a horse bucking. I found him on his bed and his tail wagged but he could not get up. I had to pick him up but his hind legs would not support his weight. I had to carry him upstairs at night and also bring him down in the morning on Thursday. I got home from work Thursday, changed and placed him in the back seat of the car with my choc. lab Sky girl. We went to their favorite place on the planet. Clemson. They loved the lake and were always extremely happy. I stopped and got them both hamburgers. I then got to the lake and was fortunate enough to meet Walker who was a Tiger mascot and a swimmer for Clemson. He helped carry my belongings down to the lake so I could carry Shadow in my arms. Sky is blind but followed my voice. I layed Shadow on the blanket and fed him the hamburger. It was a gorgeous day 86 degrees and nice breeze at 17 m.p.h. I then carried him into the lake and watch the boats go by and get some sunshine on his face. I just held him and talked into his ear. He liked the boat dock too as other dogs flew by playing. I then let him take a nap on the blanket with the wind moving his fur. He looked peaceful....Friday morning I had to put him down. He was the best dog ever....very sweet, loving and happy. I could use some prayers to get through this please...I have included some photos when they were puppies and then this past Thursday...

If you are interested in what may happen once they pass on I enjoyed this story....I hope and pray it is true. He was with me 11.5 years, longer than any woman I have ever met.

The RAINBOW BRIDGE

Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.

When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to the Rainbow Bridge. There are meadows and hills for all our special friends so they can run and play together. There is plenty of food, water, and sunshine and our friends are warm and comfortable.

All the animals who have been ill and old are restored to health and vigour; those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by.

The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.

They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent; his eager body begins to quiver. Suddenly, he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.

You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again.

The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.

Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together…

The concept of the ‘Rainbow Bridge’ is a way of expressing the everlasting bond of love between pets and humans and through research, intuition and personal experience, we are able to know what happens to our pets when they die.

I am so sorry, I first comment on the picture with him laying on the dock without reading that he has pass on. I am truly sorry, and I do feel some of your pain. My Rottie has lived past his life expectancy and his hips are getting in pretty bad shape. I'm glad none of my family don't read T-net bc I honest love my old friend I believe more than I have ever loved a human. He is so good and so loving to me and I know my heart is going to be crushed when he has to go to dog heaven. He is the only dog I've ever had that has gave me so much love and loyalty. I know how you must feel, God bless you and Sky.

I lost mine about a year ago and still miss him. A lot of us know what you are going through. My thoughts are with you.
It's tough having to put one down but the other option is worse.
I remember looking out over the lake from F5 Dorm many years ago and watching the sun go down. Very peaceful.

I know we love our pets like they are children, and that looks like two sweet ones. Please let us know what happens, and I'm sorry you are having to go through this. Our thoughts and prayers are with you.

So sorry for your loss. They look like special friends and I know they are valued family members. Our pastor was recently preparing for a sermon series on Heaven and invited members of the congregation to share their questions. The #1 question by far was "Will I see my pets in Heaven?" He said that he could not cite any Biblical basis for answering the question but added "If Heaven is a perfect place, it seems logical to me that a perfect place would include our four-legged friends."

You are in my thoughts and prayers.

know exactly how you feel.several years ago we had to say goodby to our two dogs.max,a feisty welsh terrier and willie,a wonderful rescue airedale.one of the most difficult and heartbreaking decisions.after waiting about a year and a half.we got a pup, another welsh terrier, ziggy and started a new chapter in our canine story.he's filled in the void left by the others, but hasn't erased the wonderful memories of his predecessors.we've been blessed over 40+ years with 4 Airedales and 3 welsh terriers.all great dogs,as most breeds are.time will eventually bring you to deciding to get another canine friend,so take heart.the new dog will write his or her own chapter in your book of canine memories.meanwhile you might want to go to you tube and listen to elvis' rendition of old shep,a real tear jerker.(point of info-our first dog,an Airedale named Otis came from n.augusta.got him when I was stationed at ft.jackson.)

I lost my Springer Spaniel the day after Christmas, he was 13. Know exactly what you are feeling and it is painful. Not much consolation now but time will heal the hurt and enjoy every minute with your other dog. Ugh. God bless you brother.

So Sorry for your loss! We had to put our beagle down this winter due to cancer. I still look for mine at the back door when I get home; staring at me with his tail wagging. Time will eventually heal your loss. Dogs are truly special creatures. They bring a unique energy to a home and their unconditional love is inspiring. Thoughts and prayers your way!

May 25, 2015, 8:39 AM

a baby when one of my dogs has died; but yet when a family member has died, I hardly cry at all. I can't explain it. I hope that you are fortunate enough to have a graveyard on your property for your pets. I'm afraid that I've got 4 buried behind my shop under the oak trees. I sit back there and think of them periodically. Get out of the house...take a walk.

Putting down a beloved pet is a hard, hard day. In February we adopted another dog almost 4 years after we lost our 13year old collie mix, good ol' Bartow. Her ashes are in a velvet bag that references the rainbow bridge. Personally I believe in heaven and a loving God who will give us our pets if that's what we need in eternity.

Thanks for sharing your story. You have my condolences.

My prayers are with you. I have been through the same thing and it is really hard. It has been 3 years now, but there is not a day that goes by that I don't think about her and miss her. May God give you peace, my friend.

ClemsonSCTiger: My heart goes out to you and your family. My wife and I and children owned Golden Retrievers for over 45 years and they are the most gentle, loving creatures God put on this earth. We had some Goldens that we highly well bred and some that we rescued but in all cases they were loving animals.
Without a doubt separating from each of our Goldens ,when the time came, was one of the hardest things I ever had to do. The pain does go away but it sakes an awful amount of time. All of ours were cremated and their remains are with us until the end. I will have some of the ashes of each Golden we owned buried with me so yes I do believe in the Rainbow Bridge for all of us!
I will say a special prayer for you and yours as you go through this most difficult time but please remember all the good times you had with your beloved golden.
