This is something that has probably been talked about a lot

Feb 21, 2022, 8:03 PM

over the years, but do you think Death Valley was louder in the 80s than it has been in recent years (covid year excluded of course)? And if so, how do we get it back to what it once was?

The loudest I have ever heard Death Valley was the 2016 Louisville game. The secret to making noise the whole game is to get the Hill filled. If students cannot fill it by one half hour before the game, sell the remaining spaces to first come, first served at face value. If today's students are not crazy enough, those coming in off campus will fill in quite well. That is who used to sit on the Hill.

They aren't able to fill the hill with any more people than were on it in 2019. They capped the capacity for safety reasons.

It's not that nobody wants to (well actually yeah the hill sucks) its that there arent tickets more tickets to sell.

My first thought is they gotta start having better home games. The best team they played was Wake and they aren't really known for bringing the crowd.

Maybe Louisville and Miami will bring a crowd this year? And SC of course. The last 3 games should be very loud.

I can't speak for the 80s as I was too young to go to the games then.

Random but I also think they need to seriously upgrade the speaker system if they are going to have a live DJ in the stadium. Raymond James had a very nice surround sound setup when we went.

We have the funds for it all but was delayed due to covid.

Better competition. The ACC sucks now.

I think it has a lot to do with competition like the others

said. Triple overtime vs. Miami in 2005 likely resulted in some permanent hearing loss for me.

Imho it was louder. The hill - all of them before oculus and handicap seating (which was badly needed) but again in my uneducated opine, it created more of a bowl that echoed. The hill was people on top of people and the students were crammed in 2 deep, nobody cared. And the students would lead the cheers and the noise. No one, and I mean no one could talk afterwards... Especially that Joe Montana ND game and the uga 1981 game was off the charts. Exits, there were none because those were packed too. We didn't clap, we yelled, and we were as redneck as they come.

That's all I got. But changes happen. Of course there's some on here that think only alums are true fans.

Definitely doesn't help that the Greek section would rather

Feb 22, 2022, 8:22 AM

be out making tiktoks at tailgates during the second half than staying in the stadium and losing their voices on third down.

nice attempt at a generational joke but in reality the overwhelming amount of Greek life that was there when you were in school is no longer.

Somewhere between all the date rapey stuff and hazing pledges to death (we had 1 every year during my 5 years) the campus decided they were causing more harm than good.

There was no woo-hoo in the 80's.

Ford years especially Clemson-Georgia games in early 1980's are the loudest home games I can recall in the last 40 years.
