this is really why there needs to be an 8 team at the least

Nov 22, 2022, 7:44 PM

the having to have a discussion about a 2 loss lsu team that got throttled by tennessee at home is in a better spot than us a 1 loss team who got throttled by nd on the road is insanity

Good point

Funny how most people here didn’t want an expanded playoffs

when we were in the top 4.

That's because ESPN et al. hadn't stooped this low at that time.

That was before certain conferences decided to buy up the competition and before the media decided to have more of a say based on their contract affiliations with certain said conferences...

It's also the first time the top 4 teams are undefeated

at this point in the rankings. '19 and '18 have been the closest with 3 undefeated and a lot of 1 loss teams behind them, but I think it was clearer who the more dominant teams were at the time. This year seems a little crazier with they way things have played out with the 4-8 teams (LSU, Bama, Tenn especially). #1 UGA has had its fair share of struggles with teams this year. OStU and Mich have played about 3 ranked teams total. And everyone is just waiting for #4 TCU to lose their come from behind magic and finally lose a game. But still they all have 0 losses.

We are in situation where there is a possibility, however slight it may be, that we could be the first team ranked this low at this point in the rankings to make the playoffs. I think the COVID year and transfer portal have created more parity than there used to be. I felt they should have used COVID in 2020 as a trial run for an 8 team playoff since that season was basically a wash anyway.

Yea...not because we're at #8 but it seems to be a good year for 8 teams as it sits now. All games would be good to watch and probably competitive.

Notice they never talk about who LSU & ALA beat
LSU only quality win is ALA who by the way has not beat anyone. Other than those the SEC west is not good.
Cleansing now has 2 teams in the top 25 who we did beat.

Have never believed the 4-team scenario would last,

Nov 22, 2022, 7:54 PM

especially with too many outside influences beginning with the networks.

I've also supported from the CFP onset strong measures by the organization to assert itself with earlier season polls, including the final followed by a pre-season poll to be effective until the next season.

They have got to eliminate presumed interference and influencing from outside sources, including driving the AP and Coaches' polls to extinction. ESPN has to be relegated to broadcasting sports and staying the he1l out of the politics. Period.

The four team CFP would be much better if the committee's

Nov 22, 2022, 8:17 PM

only task was to pick the four best conference champs and seed them! That would take 90% of the politics and most of the stupid "eye test" out of it

I"ll add that Louisville, Notre Dame and FSU are all now currently ranked. We knew FSU should have been ranked when we played in the 1st place. Normally when you beat LSU you get moved way up(only if you have a sec patch).

Two - two loss teams ahead of us is silly! Those folks who claim there is no SEC bias - please explain those teams weak A schedules vs ours: yet they are ahead of us with more losses.

2024 purple level member flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

The Clemson vs LSU comparison is quite simple...

Nov 23, 2022, 8:58 PM

We got blown out at Notre Dame...LSU got blown out AT HOME, by Tennessee, who will probably soon be ranked below Notre Dame! LSU lost at home to FSU...we beat FSU, at FSU! We've lost once, LSU has lost twice!

It is totally illogical to have LSU ranked above us!

Re: this is really why there needs to be an 8 team at the least

Nov 22, 2022, 9:56 PM

We need:

To win out and jump Bama
Georgia to handle lsu
Mich to lose to, or dominate, Ohio St
And either tcu and or usc to lose

And we’re in.

Very doable

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Yep...shaping up to be Clemson vs UGA in the semi.***

I personally wish it would expand to 8, and no further. That would easily ensure inclusion of teams “on the bubble”. I’m not a fan of bye-weeks, etc.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I’ve always thought 8 teams would be better***

problem is it won't stop at 8, and even at 8 there's a decent chance the best team won't survive the added variables-it becomes a crapshoot which would please bookmakers-
