Even Kornblut can't put a positive spin on.....

Feb 2, 2016, 6:03 PM

this week's edition of coot recruiting nuggets:

USC commitment RB Tyren Jones of Hutchinson JC, KS will not be signing with the Gamecocks Wednesday because of academic questions. “The NCAA saw what happened at Alabama, how everything ended,” Jones said. “I wasn’t going to class and things of that nature and it just looks like I’m not academic eligible because of the grades that I had coming from there and back to JUCO.

Commit WR Diondre Champaigne will not sign with USC. Instead, he will sign with Jones JC, MS. He said that decision was made by Will Muschamp. Champaigne is taking the ACT again this weekend.

Another USC target, DE Mykelle McDaniel of Loganville, GA is also scheduled to retake the ACT this weekend. McDaniel has made it clear he wants to go to USC but what is not clear at this point is whether or not the Gamecocks will send him a letter-of-intent for Wednesday.

USC recruiter Shawn Elliott was in touch with Newberry coach Phil Strickland Tuesday and told him they still have ATH Yafari Werts on their short list and are waiting to see how some other things work out before making him an offer. Regardless, Strickland said Werts is signing Wednesday at 10:00 AM. He has definite offers from Georgia Southern and Appalachian State and, of course, a USC offer would give him something else to think about.

Former USC signee DE Kalan Ritchie of Goose Creek will sign Wednesday with Louisiana Tech.

Former USC commitment WR Kelvin Harmon of Palmyra, NJ will sign with NC State.

this is not a surprise to the staff at UCS

They know a lot of the commits would not get in when they committed. It was not about getting recruits it was about making a buzz. That is why they are so far over their scholarship limit, they knew they had attrition coming

Bigger question is why in the hell is ESPN going to be in Columbia giving us live updates on National Signing Day?????? What, The Citadel wasn't available?

It's for comic relief, obviously. In the middle of creating drama/tension between Clemson and Michigan they'll switch over to SCar where coaches are twiddling their thumbs, Cusschamp is cussing, and the ESPN anchor is sleeping in his chair.

Go Tigers!
