Purple was not really used as apart of the color scheme prior to Tommy Bowden.

Tiger Band had both white and black trousers those years. Black was worn usually if there was a threat of rain.

I am surprised that Dabo allows jumping and skipping. Been surprised for years. I have no idea how the tradition of jumping and skipping started, but if I were HC it would end.

Just asking for a guy to land wrong and blow out a knee. (Ask Billy Grammatica about blowing out a knee celebrating.)

Run slowly down the hill. Hit the endzone. THEN run onto the field.

But, I'm old. What do I know?

I well remember that 1986 UNC game. Back then CBS had two Saturday games, an eastern game and a western game, both at the same time. I lived in Rhode Island then.

Our NC State game was a CBS game, but the west coast game was broadcast in New England, and I called the local CBS station to complain. They told me that CBS made the decisions on broadcasts and gave me the phone number for CBS Sports in NYC.

I talked with a nice lady at CBS Sports, and she informed me that I could file an official protest to CBS. She guided me through the process, and when finished, she told me that I my protest was official. I didn't expect any results from my protest.

Two weeks later, we played the UNC game, and CBS did broadcast it in New England. Early in the 4th quarter, we were winning by about 30 points, and CBS switched the telecast to the west coast game. I called CBS Sports trying to get the game switched back. I was yelling at them pretty good and telling them how stupid they were, and they hung up their phone. In fact, they hung up 4 times before they stopped answering the phone.

CBS carried the Clemson game the next week; it was on in New England; and there was no cut away until the game ended. It was near season's end, and CBS carried all of the remaining Clemson games in New England, including the bowl game.

I will always believe that my protest and yelling had a positive effect because CBS had not carried Clemson games in NE prior.

A year or so ago, I found that UNC game on youtube and watched the last quarter I missed in 1986.

Wow. I would have been at that game but have no memory of it

Nov 15, 2021, 4:33 PM

Not because I was drunk or whatever. Just don't remember that one.

I wish he would be the voice of our Tigers.

That little dance with the legs quivering about with the number 1 hand gesture in the air makes me wonder what the he// was we doing back in the day when a good play was made??

??????????

It didn't get better than Clemson-Carolina, orange britches, Brent and Ara and another beatdown by our Tigers.

Exactly! Everyone storms down the hill in 26-30 seconds, not over the course of 1 minute 25 seconds... like recently.

Great the hear Brent on the call. Thank goodness he is not doing games on the SEC network anymore - saw on the Sunday night game last night he is doing play by play as voice of the Raiders.

I was 27 or so and at that game back then. Had season tickets in North upper deck on the 50 yd. line (Row BB).

i agree about the potential injury that could

Nov 15, 2021, 5:46 PM

easily be caused by the jumping. I seriously have thought about writing a letter to Dabo about this concern, but I have no doubt he has heard this before. I HAVE THE SOLUTION! And, please note, this is just a humorous reply, but I am sure some negative TigerNet dude will find a way to criticize it.

Remove the carpet and let the grass grow back. Then when the players get off the bus, give each of them a 2’ x 2’ piece of cardboard with their jersey number on it. Let them slid down the hill, as all of us old coots did back in the 1950’s, then get up and run to the bench. Only problem might be we would have a “children’s riot” fighting for the cardboards.

All the players used to rub the rock prior to the cannon going off.

Now they rub it on the way…

I think the skipping ,etc was told to them to get them from falling forward and hurting themselves.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Uh Oh, a Rod-knee sighting! Or, as I always had to refer to

Nov 15, 2021, 5:51 PM

him, "Mr. jump up in the air and chunk an INTERCEPTION."

You know, looking back, it could be that Danny didn't really want to run the ball as much as we did, but he remembered that old saying "Three things can happen when you throw the ball, and two of them are bad!"

Rodney did win a lot of games, In fact, he won enough to turn a couple of National Championship caliber teams into solid 10-2 teams.

I say these things in loving jest, of course. But, I just looked back at one eye opening stat. For his career, Rodney completed 333 of 717 pass attempts, a 46.4% completion percentage. He RAN the ball 307 times for 863 yards. Offenses were WAY different for us back then.

DJ, as bad as he has been this year, has completed 54.9% of his passes overall. We obviously did not EXPECT Rod-knee to chunk it very well back then, and we were not disappointed.

Rodney looked pretty solid compared to some we had in those days.

Was there in the student section, remember that day well. Being from NC there was not another team I wanted to beat more than Carolina(the real Carolina). Ran all over them that afternoon.

Totally agree, and that's what the hill is supposed to look and feel like. Was left side, 2 deep. Didn't make it in time for front row. Talk about exciting.

Yes, Dabo needs to put a stop to that pansy stuff. He don't need to run like he does either. Let the players be the focus.
