It is, but not unexpected. I've maintained for several years that BB needs to go. A good year last year earned him a raise and contract extension. That was a big mistake. We now need to look forward and baseball's starting.

With more talent and leadership this year

and we are having the worst season in the past few years. Our record is that of a rebuilding year, and, on paper, this is one of the most talented and deep rosters we've had in quite a while.

I know everyone has an opinion ; here's mine ; BB got lucky with the transfers last year before that no NCCA bid and no bids some years to NIT ; he can't recruit ,there's no talent on this roster ; after spending all that money on Littlejohn ;we need a young dynamic coach .

Amen! I was concerned after last year's improbable run that DRAD was going to screw up and he did. Brownell will back next year and it will be another write off basketball season at Clemson.

Even as someone who doesn't necessarily believe in Brownell long-term, I at least believed this year would be good. We returned 5 out of our top 6 players from last year's Sweet 16 team, and we started the year ranked in the top 25. I think everyone was hopeful that this would be another NCAA Tournament team with Reed, Thomas, Mitchell, and Skara all being SRs.

Until this year my skepticism with Brownell primarily had to do with recruiting. He's a seemingly good basketball coach, but he always has trouble bringing in talent. Most expected us to land Zion, and maybe that's where the wind left the sail for this season's team. That was a big blow to our program and the Brownell era, and I'm not sure we've recovered.

The other main gripe with Brownell's recruiting is that the model that created last year's team just isn't maintainable as Reed, Mitchell, Thomas, Skara, and Donnal were all initially transfers. We're just never going to get that many high level players from the transfer market at the same time again.

On this year's team, the only non-transfers to average more than 3 points per game are Simms and Trapp. With our other top 4 players being all SRs, I just don't see any hope at all for next year's team. So this year was really our best chance for a while, and now we're starting to see this year's team's chances go up and flames.

Saturday's game is a huge opportunity as NC State looks beatable with PG Markell Johnson likely out. They recently lost to Wake Forest, and barely beat ND and Pitt since Johnson went out. If we can somehow win that won, we'd be 2-4 with games against Pitt, Wake, and GT as the next 3. There's a chance to get back to or at least close to .500 in conference play. From there, we'll at least have a chance to turn our season around.

Not that it matters to Clemson, but I'd be shocked if Zion isn't one and done. Had he gained the same amount of success at Clemson, I don't think he would return after his freshman season here either.

Also, I'm tired of seeing a daily Zion report on ESPN's insta feed. *eye roll*

While I totally agree with your post, that still doesn’t account for being (now) ranked 307 out of 350 teams in defending the 3 ball. Given the fact our offense production is low, that’s hard to win consistently with that model. For me, that lies squarely on the coaches.

We'll have mediocre year as expected, I think once you get people to just stop showing up, maybe then something chances, but for now having a decent tourney showing every 10 yeas is the standard

People can be frustrated with Brownell all they want and I am as well but until something is done about the rampant cheating in college basketball I don't see it changing for Clemson anytime soon. Clemson isn't going to bring in someone questionable, period. I don't want them to but the FBI investigation proved cheating at a high volume level and they have yet to even mention it. I have yet to watch a college basketball and until others do the same and show the NCAA we aren't watching an unlevel playing field for teams and programs that want to do it the right way. Other than Duke saying they did their own in-house investigation and it didn't show any wrongdoing by Duke or Zion (go figure) everyone knows college basketball is crooked. I hear people say they are tired of it but people continue to watch and go to games lining the pockets of the NCAA, why would they try to fix it? Heck they are getting paid. I know people want to watch their favorite teams but buying tickets and viewership is the only outlet fans have to express their displeasure. Thats why I am done until they fix it and I wish others would join in.
