problem is the fact it sits one block from the Statehouse, which never has hesitated to interfere and meddle in the univetsity's affairs, both academically and athletically.
That the Governor is an ex-officio member of its Board only serves to reenforce that thought.
A reading of its history provides further proof.

First...hats off to a "journalist" who starts a story with a direct quote of...himself:
As I noted a week ago, the University of South Carolina’s scandal-scarred board of trustees is once again encountering difficulty and division in its search for a new president.
Actually, that is an exceedingly generous assessment of the situation.
A more accurate take?
“Once again, the school’s board of trustees is doing its best impression of a dumpster fire careening out of control into an increasingly unruly rodeo of goats,” I noted.
Oh come on.
But back to the article...if this dies as is, the guy wrote it. A board member and 70-something year old lawyer. That seems almost impossible but here we are. I just think if someone else wrote it, they would track that person down and publicly announce that person was fired.
