This “alliance” nonsense is horse dung!

Aug 22, 2021, 5:43 PM

The ACC better not sign up to allow this alliance to limit their expansion nor tell ACC teams they can no longer schedule SEC opponents in non-con games!

If that happens, Clemson, FSU, Miami and any others should bolt to the SEC and create a super conference. OSU, Mich, PSU should consider it too. USC, Oregon, Wash too.

If I were the SEC and they try that, I would let everyone know the door is wide open. And I would make it clear, the SEC plans to play big boy football at the highest level of talent and will NOT play teams outside of its conference… even in postseason play. The real NATTY will be the SEC championship game.

It is nut cuttin time!

At least ESPN has stayed objective and unbiased and just reports sports news without any spin.

Do you actually believe that our new ACC Commissioner would sell out the conference in that manner? This is all about power in numbers aka a voting bloc to keep college football intact and not become like the minor league NFL.

The future is a new division (or super conference) that will be the big boy college football conference and the real natty winner.

It is inevitable.

Expansion of the ACC would involve only one team and that team is not in a conference. The Alliance wouldn't stop that.

Yep. Most people seem to like the idea. It is not about what is good for Clemson it is all about "getting back" at the SEC and ESPN. That seems to be all people care about. In a few years when all this comes tumbling down, people will realize that selling your soul to the Big 10 and Pac 12 is far worse that anything the SEC has done.

Man you are deaf dumb and blind.

This has huge positive implications for Clemson! More money, more great games including on the West Coast that will greatly increase our exposure for recruiting and tons of other benefits.

If they did, we would be getting invited instead of Oklahoma or Texas.

Re: Hate to break it to you but the SEC doesn't want us...

Aug 23, 2021, 11:00 PM

Clemson and FSU were approached at the same time Tex and Oklahoma were. SEC wanted 20 teams with 4 divisions. If those initial teams joined, I think it was ND and OSU that were going to be approached. SEC had decided to try to get to 20 teams with 24 being their longer term goal.

Clemson shut down the discussions immediately but they didn't expect Tex and okl to say yes. FSU was on the fence but their value decreased without Clemson.

The guy that broke the story explained this like a week after he announced that there was serious traction with Tex and OK.

Re: This “alliance” nonsense is horse dung!

Aug 22, 2021, 9:02 PM

That is not the purpose. The purpose is to keep the SEC from forming a monopoly to control just what you mentioned; i.e. expansion and playoff seeding's that would favor the SEC.
And even if it was intended to keep us from scheduling SEC opponents, these schools can't just bolt, or join the SEC if the SEC does not extend them an invitation.

Don't worry. Everyone on here will see the light way too late then sit down and wonder what happened. Alliances don't work long term history tells us that.. Right now everything is fine because the conference commissioners can say " See , look what we did... take that SEC".. fans are clearly happy about scheduling potential that will never happen.. We will be playing Arizona, Indiana, and Rutgers as out of conference games and paying to travel across the country for those snoozer games. Does Clemson make any additional money from the Alliance.... No, but we definitely cost ourselves money in travel cost if nothing else. You "alliance" people need to take your emotions out of your decision making. Just like a bad night of drinking.. feels great now, but tomorrow morning you will wonder how you let yourself become so stupid.

The only big boy football played in the SEC is when Alabama plays- that team brings the A game and then all of a sudden it is a slobber knocker of game- just because it it the SEC.

Teams bring the A game when they play Clemson- well maybe Clemson is over rated and and has no chance against the lowest of the low in the SEC-

You can't have it both ways!

I’d love for the new alliance to no longer schedule SEC teams.

Aug 22, 2021, 9:31 PM

I’d be willing to give up our game with the Coots in order to play more Big 10 and Pac-12 teams.

Let the SEC play each other and be forced to play crappy teams for their non-conference games.

The coots are bragging about the expanded more powerful SEC, but the fact remains they will never win more than 4-6 games a year ever, ever again. They are the catfish of the SEC…..bottom feeders.

As the conference expands they just get lower on the totem pole. I feel sure if the SEC could they would kick the coots out because they embarrass the conference more than help it. They can thump their chests all they want but they have done nothing except provide good practice for real teams.

There is no team in those conferences I’d enjoy beating more than UofSCalifornia. Maybe Ohio State but we can just beat them in the playoffs.

Re: This “alliance” nonsense is horse dung!

Saturday Down South has an article discussing this and makes a lot of good points. Hate the SEC if you will, but TX and OK approached them. All of the other conferences would have welcomed them with open arms as the SEC did. Further, this alliance really makes little difference to the ACC other than a (false?) sense of security. It mostly gives the B1G more money/power. We are still a marquee name in a second rate football conference with a major revenue disadvantage and little hope of changing that for a decade. We have bucked the trend for a while, but whether that continues has yet to be seen.
