think the youth of today resort to violence and act out much

Apr 24, 2023, 2:49 PM

sooner than they used to. That is, you look at the majority of violent crimes in America, especially among children and teens, and it is most definitely ramping up.

The reason? Not sure, but Mental Health is at the core of societal auccess. We need to improve that, yesterday. And yeah, I have 3 teenagers, so I feel like I'm speaking from learned knowledge. Not that any of my kids have done anything too "violent" or anything.. too much lol. The most violent I've seen my 14 yo son is when things don't go his way in Madden. It's okay son, dad is finally catching up 🤣🤣

You can go back over 100 years and find articles in newspapers saying exactly what you just did

No dad in the household, Prescription meds and a general lowering/lack of morals/values from moving away from religious teachings would be my top three. We were not perfect back in the day but we did not loot stores or kill people

during the turn of the 20th century may have been more violent, just a guess., Today's are fat and glued to their phones, and most definitely do not want to have their video games taken away..

Your Logic does not compute.

I may get slammed for this but here goes. The simple answer is we allow too many excuses that enable bad behavior. You mention mental health and I agree, legitimate mental health issues exist - I had an aunt (rest her soul) that was living proof, but it really is relatively rare. It has become a viable excuse for people who act out. Most of us have been depressed to some degree at some time and a lot of us were picked on by bigger kids (today it’s called bullying and is another excuse/enabler), but none of us thought killing as many people as possible was a legitimate response. If you lost a job, regardless of the reason, you went and found another one. Again, shooting up coworkers wasn’t even considered.

For those who blame it on the proliferation of guns, we had plenty of guns available to us as kids and it just wasn’t a consideration. We just knew it was wrong.

We need to stop enabling people who do bad things and stop letting them use what others may have done to them as an excuse. Each person is responsible for their own actions. And it is not up to us to judge and think it’s ok for us to punish someone else, except in extreme cases when it is the only self defense option.

Just my opinion and if you don’t agree, that is fine. You are entitled to your opinion as well. Just don’t waste your time trying to change my opinion or telling me why I’m wrong.

You are spot on. Society excuses and enables bad behavior. No one is accountable for what they do.

Focusing on worldly things instead of the spiritual will do that. What percentage of the youth today can name the 10 Commandments as compared to when, we the children of the 50s - 60s grew up? In the mid-70s, 90%+ of all Americans said they were Christians and in 2023 it's down to 63%. It is estimated that by 2070, Christianity will no longer be the majority in the U.S. At this pace, that will happening before 2070.

Thou shalt have no other gods before me.

Thou shalt not make unto thee any graven image.

Thou shalt not take the name of the Lord thy God in vain.

Remember the sabbath day, to keep it holy.

Honour thy father and thy mother.

Thou shalt not kill.

Thou shalt not commit adultery.

Thou shalt not steal.

Thou shalt not bear false witness against thy neighbor.

Thou shalt not covet.

need good examples in their life, be it home, church, neighborhood, Scouts, sports, whatever. Need more outdoor activities, less time in internet and in front of a TV. Likewise need to be taught that they are accountable for their actions. Also need to be taught to appreciate good stupid comedy movies.

Past generations of parents weren’t violent enough.

Parenting has gotten soft, kids have taken advantage.

As a teacher, you see it the most. This cartoon sums it up perfectly.

IMHO it's a combination of many things.
-Social media has almost eliminated positive social skills. Very easy to be an a hole behind a screen much less when there was a chance your mouth would meet someone's fist for saying something stupid.

- Everyone gets a trophy mentality. Not just limited to participation trophies but the overall attitude that little Johnny or Judy are wonderful at everything when they aren't. Losing, not making a team, not being able to have some things are all character builders. The general lack of work ethic to be better is quickly going away because they don't have too anymore.

- Lack of repercussions. Seems as a society we've eliminated responsibility and ownership of actions.

- Absent parents. So many parents either don't care or they defend their kids regardless of what they've done.

So many more things not mentioned. We've failed the last few generations and we're paying for it now.

Very simple they are told to only care for themselves and to put their feelings first from day one, and parents these days aren’t interested in being parents they wanna be their friends then use electronics as babysitters. They also see how adults treat each other with pure hatred and contempt depending on how they view the world. When you remove all the love and looking out for your fellow citizens this is what you get. Hate is the number one seller these days and we are all guilty of letting it happen. This next generation is going to be the most lost, hate filled, and violent generation ever to exist.
