Think about what we're saying by not playing Cade . .

Nov 26, 2022, 11:24 PM

. . . intentionally or otherwise. There are two and ONLY two possibilities. Either Cade is unspeakably bad in practice, so much so, that DJ has been the only legitimate option all year - and **by a light year** - despite all his weaknesses . . . OR Dabo and Streeter have been pushing an agenda that runs against the data, and are without excuse.

I'm not even talking about a "controversy" over who the "starter" is . . . but beyond that - why not more Cade snaps generally . . . for variety . . . for unpredictability, for reps, for that intangible "spark," for the fostering of competition for the spot, for taking the pressure off DJ as the sole bearer of the QB play responsibilities. They have had EVERY REASON to do that more this year - FAR MORE, than they did. Either Cade is just REALLY, REALLY an obvious liability in practice, OR Dabo and Streeter have an ego problem.

If we discount any obvious crazy conspiracy theories (DJ is on the take, Big Dave has some incriminating info on Dabo, blah blah) - if we discount wild stuff like that, then I'm afraid the above two are the only possibilities. It seems like an almost closed case that either Cade is terrible in a way that would shock us all, or else, Dabo and Streeter are wrapped around the little finger of their own egos, and have refused to swallow their pride.

If Streeter is running the show, it probably doesn’t matter anyway.

I truly believe the coaches KNOW they would be completely...

exposed as inept if they went to Cade. I truly don't think a DANG thing would change from an offensive production, efficiency, scoring standpoint...............I think they know it doesn't matter who our QB is.......our offense is trash and they'll lose their "excuse" if they change QBs...........I'm not saying DJ is great..........nor am I saying that Cade is bad..........this offensive staff would make Tom Brady look like Cole Stoudt.

How many times have a you watched a game this year on tv and the starter was pulled? Not many but I feel Dabo makes the move next week. Just remember we still have the same receivers.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

how often it happens doesn't change what we've seen

with us. A even more prescient answer to your question would be this . . . I've seen it multiple times this year with Clemson. Notre Dame in a "too little too late" situation, and Syracuse in a "do or die" situation. So, our staff does have some recognition of the need or they wouldn't have done that. "How often have you seen it" isn't a relevant issue when we've already done it at least twice. (I know he played a few other times but those were the biggies).

They were banking on the defense holding everyone in regular season under 21 points and squeaking by with the veteran QB and see what happens in the playoffs and it backfired BIG TIME!!!!!!!

Yep, too reliant on the defense

thus playing low risk play calls on offense. We got our 10 wins, so all is well…….

And the thing is defenses aren't respecting our passing game at all and we have still had pretty good success running the ball. Imagine how much we would score if we had any ability to whatsoever to punish defenses for crowding the LOS. Instead its handoffs and screens 90% of the time. Either every QB on the team was extremely overrated coming out of HS and we don't have anyone on the sideline capable of doing any better than what we've seen or our coaches are playing people just to prove some kind of point about how smart they are while the entire program burns to the ground. Neither option is particularly palatable.

"neither is particularly palatable" . . .

Nov 26, 2022, 11:51 PM

ya got that right. Understatement of the week, right there!

It's an ugly situation.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I pretty much agree. All along, I have been certain that

Nov 26, 2022, 11:58 PM

Cade is just not quite ready. However, that prompts the question, why? Did we miss on the evaluation, or is he just not picking up the offense, or do the other players not like or respect him? What exactly is it? I have assumed all along it was one of or a combination of those things, and held out hope that he would develop as the season progressed, at least to a point where he would be a viable option if DJ fell apart or was injured. But if Klubnick is not better at this point than the struggling, injured DJ we saw today, then something is bad wrong. I find that hard to believe, however; I can't believ that is even possible. Again, if that is indeed the case, then Dabo and Streeter have to answer for us being in such terrible shape at QB.

But since I can't believe Cade is that bad, that incapable of playing QB at this point, the only other possibilities are that Dabo and Streeter are blind and really think DJ is doing a good job, or one of the crazy conspiracy theories is true, or their pride is in the way, and they can't admit they were wrong, or they are putting DJ's success ahead of the success of the team.

I don't buy any of the crazy conspiracies, but I do suspect that their pride and stubborness is blinding them to the severity and impact of DJ's incompetence, and is causing them to put DJ's success above the team's success, as they have hitched their wagon to DJ, and see his failure as their own failure.

A few short weeks ago, I thought that was ridiculous, but after today, it seems very likely to me, as I can't explain it any other way.
