I Thought Being Fair And Neutral Was Important NCAA ---

Sep 11, 2017, 10:01 AM

If two teams from different conferences are playing each other.....why aren't there some 3rd party or neutral set of officiating crews doing all these types of games? They do it during the bowl season. It was an uneasy feeling knowing there were SEC officials calling our game Saturday when we were playing an SEC team.

Auburn's ###### offense needs PI calls to operate.***

There's something in these hills.

Why do referees have conference affiliation at all ?

Sep 11, 2017, 10:04 AM

Makes no sense.

They got 1 PI completely wrong

Sep 11, 2017, 10:05 AM

And I think auburn violated the halo rule once., that's iffy.

So all in all they did a good job.

Halo rule is no longer in existence. I believe as long as you don't touch you are in the clear.

Not quite

Sep 11, 2017, 10:41 AM

You are right that there is no defined halo rule anymore, but there still is an "interference" penalty even if you don't make contact (it's a 5 yard penalty vs the 15 yard "interference with contact" variety).

In practice it's never called unless the returner bobbles/loses the ball due to the interference with the thought, I suppose, being that if the returner catches it then he wasn't really interfered with.

Agreed

For the most part they did a good job. I really only saw the one PI they totally missed. They were pretty even with the no-calls on holding, which is saying something with those 2 defenses on the field. I'm sure there was holding all over the place, but if it's not called all the time/evenly it tends to even itself out when two teams with good D's are playing.

This is the way it's done.

The road team brings the field officials and the home team has the booth. So freaking what? If you can't beat a few old men who wish they could suit up and get in the action you don't deserve a victory.

Frankly, you throw them all in a sock, sling it around and the first one that comes out is about as good, bad or human as those still in the sock. If the best team wins when the clock goes to zero they've done a good job, imo.

What bothered my were the non calls on PI

Sep 11, 2017, 10:10 AM

If you're gonna call ticky tac PI's, call it the same both ways. You could also say holding must be legal in the SEC.64 on Auburn's Offense made a night of holding.

The holding call on Hyatt only bothered me because ESPN didn't show it . Why ? What did the replay show?If anyone finds it, please post it.

Actually the teams determine officiating when they enter the contract. For example, Georgia refuses to allow visiting conference officials in Sanford Stadium, therefore officials are from the host team SEC. Clemson-Auburn and Clemson-SC agreed to use visiting conference officials.

Officials for bowl games are determined by bowl committees. The NCAA does not control the bowls or the College Football Playoff. The NCAA does control the the FCS Playoff Series(1-AA). The bowls and the CFP are not NCAA sponsored events. Clemson's Football Championships are not NCAA Championships.

Because we had so much luck with ACC refs last year?
