Drummer, apparently you don't understand how angles work.

Look at Jameis' pro day. He was the only person there! He had to throw to himself.

No one with any talent makes it to their senior year in Columbia. If you can tie your shoes by the time you are a junior, you're going to declare for the draft, because let's be honest for a second...it's not like graduating from USCe is going to get you any further in life than not graduating.

Re: There's literally 10 NFL scouts at SCar's pro day.

Apr 1, 2015, 3:01 PM

I think this is a great example of what Dabo & Co are doing for the Clemson program. First things first, as much as people joke about the "divide" between Clemson & South Carolina, overall there's really not much of a gap at the moment. And even though the divide between the programs isn't huge, looking at those pictures, you'd think you were looking at the NFL Combine & a DIII program's pro day. Momentum-wise, I'd say we're heavy favorites and Dabo's strategy & style are the reason for it.

An early criticism of Dabo was that he was too emotional, was a cheerleader, etc., etc. I was certainly part of the critical group since I'm a Pats fan. I saw a subdued, surly, mumbling guy become arguably the best head coach of all time, and so when Dabo started skipping around the sidelines, my initial reaction was pessimistic & negative. While I'm still not always thrilled with his methods (the amount of interviews he did prior to the FSU slaughter in 2013 will always stick in my head), I realize how valuable a coach like him is--especially in the college game. He likes to grandstand a bit, but that's a great thing when it comes to something like a pro day. He turned that into a show, which he can now use as a recruiting tool. Obviously it helps that we had the best D in the nation last year, but Dabo's ability to capitalize on the situation is what makes him great. The recruits see all of these great players & scouts at the Clemson pro day, and then they want to come to Clemson. The scouts see all these new blue chip players coming to Clemson, and they want to return. Essentially, the recruits will eat up the presentation, and the scouts will eat up the product.

Moves like this will make the difference in Clemson eventually pushing itself into the elite class of programs. Not there yet, but it's getting there.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I think we're one more great class away

Apr 1, 2015, 3:12 PM

from being truly elite and ready to reload year after year.

I'm trying to temper my excitement on a daily basis for this upcoming year.

Re: I think we're one more great class away

Apr 1, 2015, 3:39 PM

Yea honestly, if we can things together on the field this year (Win the ACC, potential playoff appearance) and get a Top 10 class coming in 2016, then we'll be right there at the door. To me, we're a top 10-12 program right now...to be "elite" IMO, we're going to need to be Top 5-6 in the final rankings for at least two years.

The past four years, I believe our winning % is #5 in the nation when it comes to the power conferences, which is obviously very impressive. The problem for us is our highest final ranking has been #7 and our average over the past four years has been #13.6. Our recruiting is getting there, but we really need to make the playoffs if we want to take the next step.

Apr 1, 2015, 3:59 PM

The season can't get here soon enough.

If the defense is as good as people say it is and if DW can stay healthy.....we should make some noise this year.

Re: I think we're one more great class away

Apr 1, 2015, 4:27 PM

Absolutely.

The second item on that list is the most pressing IMO. I hope Dabo's correct in saying Deshaun's recovery has been "freakish" and it's not our staff rushing him back too soon. We need #4 to be ready for this season. He, along with what will could be our best receiving corps yet, will cover up the majority of the worts our young defensive front may have early in the season. The defensive talent is there - this team will go as far as #4 can take it.

Offensive Line & Deshaun's health are the two most important things this year - but what else is new? haha
