have to ask...

I agree with you. It is a total money grab. However, do you think they extra revenue should just be completely missed out on? If you do, that's cool.

What if it means cutting back on things? Should the new football or basketball facility be cutback? Should Dabo have been offered less money? College sports are different than it was in the past. It is an arms race to build bigger, better and hire the best coaches to recruit the best talent. Do we sacrifice staying "unique" while other schools use similar revenue opportunities to a competitive advantage?

Personally I could care less if students have to pay for this or that or whatever. I'm still paying off my student loans. Many of you are correct though, many kids feel entitled and expect to be given things without work, but I feel this is not the concern. I can remember in the not so distant past, people complaining that not enough students attended the games. That we need more student and fan support. Now, we have plenty, one of the best student sections in all of college football. WHY IN GODS NAME WOULD YOU WANT TO MESS WITH THAT?!?!?!?!? Everyone knows that the student sections are by far the loudest sections, and how many times did the crowd noise make a legitimate difference in games last year? MANY TIMES! My concern is that this crap is going to mess with the mojo of the student sections and overall environment and for that reason alone I feel this is the dumbest idea I've ever heard. Just, why mess with a good thing? If you need the money that bad, find another way. My 10¢ anyway

Fine with it. Give up two days of camping for tickets and replace them with two good ole days of labor and your good to go. Problem solved.

I think going from zero to 225 is probably too much...

Apr 13, 2016, 2:27 PM

By the same token there are no free lunches. I think going up to 75-100 would be about right with periodic increases for inflation etc.

there was a petition going around, some ~5,000 sigs...

how did it work out for the offended and are the offended going to boycott Clemson Men's Varsity Football as a continued show of solidarity?

Who wouldn't sign it? If I were a student I would think...why not? What do I have to lose?

The petition doesn't work, I still go to the games and probably pay the $225 myself. Maybe I just don't buy a new iPhone every year ??

ok, so the offended will attend?***

They should if they love Clemson football as they proclaim. The passion shouldn't cease because of $225. They can still choose to not pay, go sit on the hill or upper deck. I just don't see how you can have it both ways.

I could list hypotheticals all day long and it won't matter. If we sacrifice spending/upgrading, some of those same students will complain that we have fallen behind or don't invest enough or our priorities are wrong.

I love Clemson sports, especially football. If I am a student, I am finding the $225 because I feel that my contribution is supporting Clemson and I am happy to do it. I want the best and if it takes my participation to do so...I am doing it.

good for you. drad mentions 3,300 tickets would remain

Apr 13, 2016, 3:10 PM

available at no cost to those that choose to pass on the new IPTAY student donation program.

with that in mind, is The Hill part of the value applied to the lower as a whole and would it now fall under the $225 donation requirement?

Re: good for you. drad mentions 3,300 tickets would remain

Apr 13, 2016, 3:12 PM

No clue. The Hill should remain free in my opinion and not included as a part of his 3,300 number.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

ok, it appears from all i've read it's not part of the 3,300

Apr 13, 2016, 3:17 PM

but more will come out in the coming days/weeks/months i'm sure.

drad seemed fairly clear that The Hill had value as does the lower bowl.

maybe someone else could chime in on this or if the ~5,000 are planning next steps?

If there's a market for it, the school isn't wrong to pursue

Apr 13, 2016, 2:35 PM

It's naive to think the athletic department should just operate on a "goodness of their heart" basis. They're in it to make money.

Student's opinion

Apr 13, 2016, 2:38 PM

Last year, there was a problem with students going online and getting Lower Deck tickets, because it was easy and free for them to do. Then they would sell them to students who were unable to get those tickets. I believe this is a reason for the $225 season ticket, and I think another reason for it is students who had been getting in line for tickets at 5am and skipping those who camped out for a week and for trying to sell their tickets.

$225 may seem like a lot, but it is a fair price to pay for tickets. There will still be lower deck tickets available to students, and this makes it more fair for students like me. I have had to sit upper deck many times because I did not want to fund students selling their Florida State or Notre Dame ticket for $300. I have not left any game early in my college career, yet I've been stuck in the upper deck for 4 quarters while many lower deck students left the game at half. This system may have its faults, but it does reward those who are willing to give more effort to get good tickets, as camping out used to do

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Thanks for the great insight. Question...

Apr 13, 2016, 2:58 PM

Do you still have to show a student ID to enter with a student ticket? Who were the student p's selling the tickets to and how did they get in with those tickets?

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Re: Thanks for the great insight. Question...

Apr 13, 2016, 3:06 PM

Yes, you still have to show a student ID to get in. The students were going on the Clemson Class of ____ Facebook pages and were selling them to other students. The ticket is not tied to your student ID, it is just a bar code you get emailed and you print off. You take the bar code to the front gate, show your ID, and you get in.

This became a huge problem last season, and the university began taking away ticket privileges for many students to try to stop it from happening, but this did not help solve the problem very well. I remember we had a game over fall break, and students who already had plans to go home were still getting the tickets to sell. That's why I don't like the complaint that the athletic department is ruining the meaning of "Clemson Family". These students were already doing a good job of doing that.

Apr 13, 2016, 2:47 PM

It's life, we all get introduced to it sooner or later. When they told me at work my insurance premiums were going up for the same coverage, I dealt with it. When I was told there would not be any increases this year, I dealt with it. When my property taxes went up for the same land I had been on for twelve years, you got it, I dealt with it. At some point life becomes reality.

Apr 13, 2016, 3:13 PM

Shouldn't the first order of business be breaking up the frat and sorority blocks to create a better atmosphere? Freshman and Sophomore year was fun on the hill, but by the time I was a Junior and Senior, I believe my finely tuned wisdom handed down by my Clemson education entitled me to a lower deck seat that you didn't have to fight for, just a thought :)

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

$225 in 2015 is equivalent to $88 in 1982. I'd have paid it.

Apr 13, 2016, 3:15 PM

I camped out for tickets in front of the library for big games and still got upper deck seats as a freshman. If ya'll want to get your skivvies in a bunch. Lets find something more appropriate for the outrage.
