Yet he lost H2H in the Texas state championship to Cade plus was destroyed by Cade in the E11. Something seems weird...

Surprising

I have evaluated QB's for a long time and when I watch Ewers I see a really talented kid. He has prototype size and he has a dynamite arm, but I do not see a generational talent (which should be an obvious expectation for the highest ranked high schooler in over 20 years). He can definitely spin it and I think he will be a star in college, but the hype seems a bit misplaced in my opinion.

Re: Highest rated recruit since 2000

Aug 3, 2021, 9:03 AM [ in reply to Re: Highest rated recruit since 2000 ]

The only reason he is rated higher than TL is because ESPN ranked Justin Fields as No. 1 dropping TL to 0.9999 instead of 1.0000 in the composite ranking. If you look at just the 247 score instead of the composite ranking you can see that TL had a score of 101 from 247 while Ewers has a score of 100.

What this really shows is that the analysts and commentators are too loose throwing around the tern "generational talent" in their evaluations. We heard for years that TL was a generational talent, but every year they are giving out 100s and .999_ scores.

Using the “a qb losing to another qb in a game must mean the winning qb is better” argument is just silly.

Using this logic Jake Coker is a better qb than DW4 because his team beat DW4s team in 2015. Obviously that is ridiculous. Football is a team game and qbs don’t compete against each other.

Also neither Trevor nor DW won the Elite 11, so that doesn’t mean a whole lot either.

I’m not saying this to say Ewers is better than Cade, that is still to be determined. I’m extremely excited about Cade and wouldn’t trade him for any other recruit in that class.

There is no need to poop on Quinn Ewers

Aug 2, 2021, 3:41 PM

I think he's going to be a great college QB and a very early 1st round draft choice in 2025. What makes me sad is him choosing Ohio State.

Cade is going to be a great college QB for us too.

I saw VY up close at UT. He went to high school a few miles from where I live.

Trevor was not only a great QB for us, he will be even better in the NFL. His character exceeds his football ability.

Vince came out of high school same year I did, Class of 2002, baby!

Loved watching VY play, he was like a gazelle out there running as a scrambling quarterback, a man amongst boys.

He won a Natty in college, in arguably the greatest game in college football history, he wasn't a good pro but his legacy will live on forever because he put his team on his back and carried them to a National Championship, there's no disputing that.

I disagree with your disagreement. But the USC v Texas game was epic and Vince was amazing... in my opinion.

What exactly about his post do you not agree with?

Why was that game any better than out win vs Bama?

Aug 3, 2021, 2:37 PM

How was the ending any better that Watson to Refrow?

What did Vince Young have that Deshaun Watson lacked?

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Re: Why was that game any better than out win vs Bama?

Aug 3, 2021, 3:38 PM

All very valid thoughts, but most non biased college football fans would agree that 2006 national championship game was a better game than the 2017 game. That game had more hype and star power than our game. USC had the last 2 Heisman winners playing for them and an unbelievable win streak on the line.

Vince Young took over that game in an even more epic fashion than Watson, doing it more on his own. Watson, while completely dominating, had a top 10 draft pick receiver to make epic catch after epic catch. He had Leggett making incredible plays. Renfrow was well, Renfrow. Young had a very solid crew around him, but not like we had.

I was very hard on Vince when he moved to the NFL

Aug 3, 2021, 2:34 PM [ in reply to Re: There is no need to poop on Quinn Ewers ]

I was his biggest critic and lashed into the folks who never found fault in him. I doubt anyone on this forum can appreciate the nasty VY debates folks we had down here when he played for the Titans.

But nobody can take away his great college career. Those last two years were just amazing. The USC game was the greatest in CFB history IMO. I thought UT was dead when they went down two scores. When Vince crossed the goal line to take the lead, it was truly surreal. Leading up to the game, ESPN had pre-ordained USC as the greatest team in CFB history. It was a faceplant extraordinaire!

UT/USC was #2 greatest game ever behind us beating Alabama in 2017. 4 to 13.

LOL, my bad.

I seem to recall Hunter Johnson throwing a dang pretty ball and being ranked the best HS QB in that class.

Yep, but...

Aug 3, 2021, 10:21 PM

That wasn't my point. I was just trying to offer understanding as to why Ewers is so highly rated as a college prospect.

Like everyone else, he's got to prove it on the field at the next level

You can't be second with two people ahead of you. You'd think 247 rankings would know how to rank seeing as how their job is ranking.
