Hitting the portal to OU. Question for the group…

They can’t just transfer to OU without OU wanting them. Do you believe Brent Venables would steal current players from Clemson?


I say No he would not. What do you think?

I don't believe he would steal or recruit players away but I do believe there are players that love playing for BV and will follow them. You can't blame BV for that.

Oklahoma. I think this is an exaggerated, overblown concern. We'd hate to lose anybody, whether it be recruits or current players, but that's gonna happen if BV is still here; we don't get every recruit we want and players transfer out as it is. Clemson football is bigger than any one coach.

I remember when I was a young salesman at a previous company, many years ago. I was doing quite well, but was eyeing what I perceived to be greener pastures, and was grumbling and thinking about taking another job. The president of the company got wind of it, and called me into his office. He informed me that they had high hopes for me, but that the company was set up so that if he and Mr. _________ (the founder/owner) were killed in an accident, the company would go right on without missing a beat, "and it will sure as #### go on without you". I think the same applies here.

I agree the transfer portal makes it easy now in this situation.

However, there is a bigger picture. How many scholarships does OU have available? What are the needs on their team, such as defense? What would that say to the players that are already there if BV brings in a bunch of Clemson boys. That could turn others against him. What would local high school coaches think about encouraging their players in going to OU. Who will be OU's defensive coordinator under BV?

In the long turn, I think we may lose one or two to OU and a recruit or two, but I don't think the impact will be as great as everyone fears.
