There are two roads to take

Nov 7, 2022, 9:19 AM

Road A: Play it safe

Stick with DJ. Find the parts of the offense that have worked the best in the middle of the season and roll with that. Clean up the defense as best you can.

Best case: Try to finish out the season strong, Eek out a win over UNC, go to a NY6 bowl.
OR
Worst Case: Lose to Louisville, get unconvincing wins over Miami and SCar and lose to UNC in ACCCG. Take a 10-3 record back to the Cheeze-it bowl

Road B: Go for it

Go with Cade. The Atlantic is sealed... Take your lumps on freshmen mistakes the next few games and see if we can raise the ceiling of the offense by the time we get to Charlotte.
Maybe we lose this weekend to Louisville... BUT.. if you win that game and you find an offense that works with him to finish out the season...

Best case: Maybe the committee sees a 12-1 Clemson team with a surging offense and gets some consideration.
OR
Worst Case: Lose to Louisville, get unconvincing wins over Miami and SCar and lose to UNC in ACCCG. Take a 10-3 record back to the Cheeze-it bowl

Both roads feel like they have the same downside.

Which road would you choose?

It’s kinda like a girlfriend, sure the next one might be just as crazy but at least it’s a change in scenery.
I’m not enjoying the view anymore and refuse to watch the NCCCG if DJ is even wearing a Jersey. Have at it if you want to but I’ve seen enough of her crap

Yeah.. hindsight is always 20/20 but if we had those games to build something.. maybe we would have discovered something more dynamic that could have prevailed today and looked better going into whatever is left.
Kind of felt like we knew the ceiling of the offense in its current form and it was always capable of a day like today.
I dont know that we have ever thrown for 28% passing... but man it doesnt feel good.

I took the road less traveled.

There is only one road to take; Prepare for Louisville.
Don't worry about the ACC Championship game, and forget the Playoff's.
Work both DJ and Cade first team offense this week.
Start DJ but be prepared to bring in Cade at an opportune moment, and not in a no win situation like he was placed in at Notre Dame.
If you replace DJ then basically plan on losing him at the end of the season.
If you start Cade, then he plays the rest of the season( regardless of the outcome), preparing for 2023 because if you play musical chairs with him, he will transfer out.
So which one would you rather have?
Evaluate Streeter on how the offense does the rest of the year while seeing if Jeff Scott might come back on board, and in any capacity including player development.
Keep the defense in tack for now ,mainly because they have not been at full strength all year, but make certain Wes knows he needs to work on improving the defense in 2023,especially the run defense.
P.S. On aside note look at your strength and conditioning program because as much as Notre Dame pushed us around, any of the top 5 or 6 teams in the CFP rankings would have a field day.

Man. Road B looks like it would have been freaking awesome.
Ah well... its better to get on the right road late than to never find it at all. Our orange bowl opponent should be a good one.
