By the numbers: Tigers enter bye week with plenty to improve

Five games are in the books and Clemson enters its bye week unranked in the Associated Press top-25 for the first time since 2014. There's plenty to improve. Dabo Swinney's Tigers did post their most yards (438) and points in regulation (19) against a Power Five foe this season, seeing modest gains Read Update »

Blocking and catching the ball would be good …

Then I bet DJ gains more confidence cause guys are not about to jump on him and whatnot. I think it’s a domino thing.

There are only 129 teams in the FBS category ... so ...

... these numbers suggest we're WAY worse off than "just a few plays" from getting it right ...

only 21 teams worse ... scoring offense (108th, 21.2 PPG)

only 20 teams worse ... completion percentage (109th; .548)

only 18 teams worse ... passing yards per completion (111th, 10.4)

only 11 teams worse ... passing efficiency (118th, 106.1)

DEAD LAST ... fourth down offense (129th, 0-for-4)

I'm behind the team 100%, but something significant is wrong for us to have fallen so far offensively.

It's not just 1 thing, but I hope we determine what it is, and fix it ASAP. We've still got the studs on offense, so are we too predictable or is there some disruption in chemistry/cohesion at the player level?

If we're just throwing spaghetti against the way to try to see what sticks ... maybe we should AT LEAST COOK THE SPAGHETTI FIRST!! ;)

GO TIGERS!!

Living in GA, I hate to give UGa credit for having an impact on us, but at this point, I think it's undeniable:

Kirby Smart and Dan Lanning game planned against DJ for months, and every opponent will copy their approach as much as their talent allows.

One of the Tiger broadcasters pointed out that our offensive "success" Saturday was at least partly due to BC's playing us in a straight-up 4-3-4 defense. He said all previous foes have been facing DJ with at least 5 DBs on every single play.

Add to that a lack of proven offensive leadership. There's no experienced RB smacking DJ on the butt and saying "Shake it off". When someone does try to take charge, it's a player who is still learning their own position and is liable to miss a block on the next play. This offensive group must learn to trust each other and grow together.

BTW, when Liberty went up to FBS, it became 130.
