Saw Herbie on "College Football Final" last night and

Oct 2, 2016, 11:58 AM

was astounded by his stupidity and weird love affair with Louisville.

So according to him, it really doesn't matter anymore ("'cause this is 2016 and not 1983")whether or not teams lose....as long as they look good and play well in the losing effort, and Louisville should go to the playoffs after they run the table on the JOKE schedule they have remaining.

Hey Herbstreit......why the HE!! do we even bother to play the games? What you are describing here is not only EXACTLY like the UPI/AP/BCS system of "1983".....it's worse. I hope you have taken the antidote to whatever it was you were shooting/smoking last night and realized what a moronic thought process that was you had going on last night.

Question: What happens when Houston beats Louisville? Because it's gonna happen.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

No way any ACC team that doesnt even play in the conference.

Oct 2, 2016, 12:04 PM

championship game makes the playoffs. Without that extra game on the resume, no way.

Louisville is the flavor of the month....

and the latest media darling. If they win out, it could happen.

I wouldn't say their remaining schedule is a joke. They play Houston away. If they run the table and win that game (assuming Houston is undefeated) they should be in the conversation. I get being upset about the media seemingly giving Louisville more credit for losing than we are getting for winning but look at the schedule before calling it weak.

Right. That's exactly what I'm saying. Louisville is getting more credit for losing than we are for winning.

It really is amazing. But I have noticed we play better when we are doubted. So let them talk. I'll take the wins.

winning and what the almost-win means for them, rather than Clemson wins and what it means for Clemson. It was perplexing and irritating, especially since Herbie has always been very complimentary of Clemson.

They are just trying to keep the Lamar hype machine alive. Look at all the ESPN guys' twitters around the time of the last Louisville drive. Stephen A, Desmond Howard and others were talking about this being his Heisman moment. No talk about the comeback led by DW4.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Right. Led team to 2 late TDs for the WIN! Why on earth is

Oct 2, 2016, 12:15 PM

that not Heisman worthy?

last year www watched 2 guys ahead of Watson in the Heisman. One from Stanford had his team lose 2 games. the second was a big stat leader after they fed him the ball 35-45 times over the last several games to build up his numbers. Absent 1 run against us we shout him down. Now this Jackson kid. Terrific talent, slippery as an eel but oh so immature with his antics and those of his teammates. Led by a coach who said "there place is loud". Really now motorcycle man. If you knew that and believed that tell me why there were 6 procedure penalties against your O? Add in questionable coaching calls by him at the end of the game and the Tigers win after blowing them out in the first half and then playing poorly in the second half---UNTIL WE NEEDED TO TURN IT ON and that is exactly what great teams do

Yep, ESPN has invested in "Lamar Jackson, the Story" as a way to drum up drama and ratings. They don't want it to go away and have to think up more inane psuedo-drama to talk about.

Clemson winning big games and being relevant isn't much of a story anymore. It's expected. Louisville, however, is a story this year. And they are a VERY good team. Huge win for the Tigers, still celebrating ??????

Take away the Clemson freak miscues and Clemson...

...wins this game by 3 touchdowns. I wonder is UoL would still be in Kirk's Top 4 then.

It's similar to the talk after the Natty that we benefited from. I take it as a sign of respect due to us being the consistent "known" program. .....verses the new kid on the block in UL

Oct 2, 2016, 12:12 PM

Right now, Bama/OhSt/Clem and Washington look in really good shape. If those 4 win out, then thats your top 4. If one of them loses.. then it will be a debate over a 1 loss Conf champ VS Houston/UL winner.

If there is a 2 loss conference champ then Houston/UL winner gets in.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

its gonna be really hard for Washington to win out

Oct 2, 2016, 12:40 PM

The Pac 12 has no bad teams. If they slip up once they could still be ok though

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I don't see a problem with kudos to Louisville

Oct 2, 2016, 12:22 PM

They were very impressive, and like Notre Dame, were a yard away from a win.

Two ACC teams in playoff is good, Louisville talk is good.

Let Lamar get Heisman, I will take the wins.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Uhhhh...Notre Dame was NEVER a yard away from a win....

Oct 2, 2016, 12:33 PM

In fact, they never once, the entire game, had or even threatened to take the lead.

Notre Dame was actually one yard away from a potential tie.

Lville looked good. Are you willing to say they aren't a top4 team ?

Oct 2, 2016, 12:55 PM

We are 5 weeks in. We won, but they looked great. After 12 eeeks, if they run the table, depending on other teams, they may very well be in and deserving to be so.

Re: Lville looked good. Are you willing to say they aren't a top4 team ?

Oct 2, 2016, 1:08 PM

Not saying that at all. They ARE a GREAT team....it just irritated me that talking heads give seemingly more props to the team that lost than the one who won....

If we had lost to UL, the talking heads would be saying we are done.....finished....we all know that. Herbstreit just came off to me as saying (not quoting, but this is the jist) "If you play well...and lose...it shouldn't matter to the committee because you are a good team.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Cuz all thet silly winning or losing stuff was

Oct 2, 2016, 1:10 PM

way back in "1983." As long as you look good losing, you're still ok. That's what I took away from what Herbie said.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

It's possible that you're the stupid one

Oct 2, 2016, 1:16 PM

They have a game with a top 10 opponent remaining. Since they're number 8 now, they could easily move into the top 4.

For the folks saying a 1-loss ACC team can't make it in, maybe you should actually look at the strength of the conference this year.

2024 white level memberbadge-donor-10yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Ya it's very possible. I should've never posted. Only

Oct 2, 2016, 1:24 PM

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I'm pretty sure L'ville plays Houston

That's huge.

Oct 2, 2016, 3:32 PM

I saw him say that about Louisville, but first he did an obligatory congratulations to the Tigers. He seemed pained to do so. Seems the opposite from the way he's treated Clemson in the past. Either he's been told to tout Louisville, or he's upset because of the Lee Corso booing (he really respects Lee).

ESPiN is still hungover from the BCS when they could...

pretty much control the final polls with preseason hype, pushing their SECbabies in the top ten in the early polls ensuring that the SEC would get a spot in the MNC game by hyping their opponents and counting any loss to an SEC team as a good loss. They still remain under the delusion that two teams from the same conference can be seeded in the playoff.

Two of ESPiN's talkers understand that conference champs are given special consideration, Heather and Joey. I know you guys do not want to hear about HD knowing what she's talking about but she has done a pretty fair job as liaison to the Playoff Committee.
