The Spirit of Christmas

Dec 24, 2017, 8:36 PM

During WW2 and the Korean War, I was witness to numerous acts of compassion by our military personnel. Those acts of compassion were to our allies as well as our foes. The thing that impressed me was how contagious these acts were. The act initiated by one person seemed to affect those who were witness to the act. Often times, the act was initiated by someone we would least expect. I saw tears of joy from both donor and recipient. I saw in the eyes of recipients a look of gratitude that is so ingrained in my memory it's as if it occurred only yesterday. There are no language barriers when one can see this look of gratitude.

The Spirit of Christmas was not limited to just the Christmas season, it expanded the meaning that the true Spirit of Christmas dwells in the heart of mankind every day of the year. It transcends every difference mankind has established and manifests itself in every conceivable act or deed.

I had intended to post a story that demonstrated how a simple act of compassion in North Korea on Dec. 1, 1950, had an impact on the men involved. But that story is too long for me to post with my limited skills in typing.

May each of you have a Merry Christmas and may the Spirit of Christmas remain in your hearts all year long.

Thank you, Joe. Merry Christmas! Thanks for reminding us what's important, and why we're able to celebrate the "Reason for the Season" in freedom. Thank you for your service and than the Lord for the Christ child.

You're the greatest poster from guys and gals good and bad on every Clemson site. I'm a non-conventional typist (my wife laughs out loud, but I'm fairly quick), but if you want to dictate your story to me, I'd be honored to work with you on it. My guess is everyone on Tigernet wants to hear it, and I'd love to help it get out there. After the wife and I open a few presents in the morning, I'm free until the grown kids arrive at 3 pm, and also have time next week before we head to NOLA.

Thanks for your offer George. I have a daughter who lives with me and can post my long epistles. I have a condensed version of the story but it does not really tell the conditions and details of the full story, How can one tell in a few words the conditions that existed for the refugees? How can one really describe cold weather when temperatures are around zero? How can one describe the sight of a family member carrying an elderly person 139 miles to freedom? How can one describe thousands of people with very little to eat, quite often only a daily small serving of rice and attempting to rest for a few moments and sleep on the cold frozen ground?

Joe,I reckon you to be in your late eighties or early nineties. I read every day we are losing people like you. I would like to personally thank you, and many others for the sacrifices you made in order that we experience our many blessings today.

When you answer the final roll call and step forward I know a well done my good and faithful servant will be said by the CO.

Merry Christmas and Thank you again.

Gunstock----- The 21 in my handle denotes the year I was born so, today, I celebrate my 96th. Christmas. I am the richest person in all the world, not in material wealth, but those things that are truly important, a deep faith, relatively good health, wonderful family and friends, the ability to laugh, to cry and to appreciate this things we consider the small things in our life. How can I not be thankful for these many gifts on this Christmas morn?

Blessings to all !!!
