The recurring school massacre problem is easy to solve:

May 24, 2022, 10:02 PM

Double -locked doors at every school entrance and armed guards!! I would also favor armed teachers that are comfortable with guns. Retired military would be a great resource.

Our priorities are backwards: protect politicians over children? Hell no! Children over corrupt pols! Easy choice.

He doesn't come by it honestly. But, yes, better to ignore.

May 24, 2022, 10:56 PM

NE-WAYS...it's funny you mentioned Red Flag laws, because I tend to agree more and more. They are a hugely dangerous piece of law when abused, and it is important that they be narrowly tailored, but I just don't see how the GOP can't acquiesce, especially if it's a compromise on far more aggressive (and functionally useless) gun control (even Heritage has become a fairly loud voice for them over the years).

At the end of the day, we can't ignore there is a mass shooting problem even if we know the same old gun control is not the answer. Done correctly, Red Flag/ERPOs provide a powerful tool to stop shootings, without treading on the 2A rights of law-abiding citizens.

Glad to see this idea taking root with others.

Mass murderers are severely mentally ill, that's for sure.

May 24, 2022, 11:29 PM [ in reply to Re: Spare us your asinine ramblings for once. ]

It's a common thread in almost every single mass murder incident, maybe the most common. Funny how that's rarely mentioned as a causative factor when solutions are being proposed.

Awwh now Jimmy Ha Ha, that's so childish of you (something the board has become accustomed to) ...pull your self together and re-read my post. Do you have any better ideas?

Calling me an old codger? Nothing could be further from the case. LNAO

You wanna debate me in person on this issue? Is this where you disappear? Cajones problem? Bring it, if you dare. Miura will slice and dice you in a debate!

I look forward to the day when you stop embarrassing yourself. Gawd I love you lefties: unhinged, racist, intolerance, vulgar and hateful!! Did I leave anything out?

Should I assume that you're a Biden advocate, even after a disastrous 16 months? Try harder.

Locking the doors?

Most schools (not sure about this one) have SRO's that are armed and trained to take out threats.

Thanks for that valuable insight

So what is the solution?

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Mental health first and foremost

May 25, 2022, 7:36 AM

We didn't have this problem when we locked the people with mental health issues in asylums.

I am not advocating for asylums, but we can send 40 billion dollars to a country halfway across the world but can't provide adequate funding to social services such as mental health initiatives.

Thanks to Reagan we released all of these mental health cases out in the the general population with little to no support or way to keep track of them. And the issue is ever worse now.

Instead we stigmatize people in mental crisis. It is a common occurrence that if a job hears about you getting metal health treatment, you'll probably lose your job. Then we arm them with the largest civilian arsenal on earth, and wonder why this keeps happening.

"There's nothing we can do!!" says the only country where this occurs regularly.

Mental health is not the final solution

May 25, 2022, 7:54 AM

this is a convoluted issue that will take multiple solutions. However, all we will really get is a lot of "thoughts and prayers" some bickering back and forth and then absolutely #### all will be done about it.

Hey Coachette: What percentage of schools have SROs that are armed? You say MOST. How many schools with armed SROs have been attacked recently? You seem to suggest that we don't need anymore armed SROs. Back up your claim. I'll wait.

2024 orange level membermilitary_donation.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

May 25, 2022, 10:51 AM

They're armed because they're a cop.

But not all schools across the nation have an SRO.

You know, that costs money. Everyone okay with paying for it?

Robb Elementary had an armed resource officer.

May 25, 2022, 10:58 AM [ in reply to Re: Wow. That's all it would take? ]

Investigators have not revealed how the suspect entered the school, but Estrada did say two Uvalde police officers and a school resource officer fired at him, but the suspect "had a rifle and body armor on," and was able to keep going. Two of the officers sustained minor injuries.

And arming teachers won't solve it; military and police all agree this is a terrible idea.

2024 orange level memberbadge-donor-10yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

You want this done on a federal level?

May 25, 2022, 11:10 AM

Because unions are a state-by-state thing. I mean, we can discuss having federally funded security added to all schools, but that's really gonna be a price tag.

Seems like making this a state or district plan would make more sense. That's partly why you see shootings happen like this in some places and shut down in others. Not all district security is the same.

Re: Okay. I'll entertain that

Absolutely willing to pay for it. Some schools already have armed teachers. Those teachers are trained to use a gun and have to be comfortable having a gun in their classrooms.

What's the argument against armed teachers?

Do you seriously think guns and mentally ill crazies are going to cease to exist, ever? We MUST defend our children, regardless of the costs. Easy decision.

2024 orange level membermilitary_donation.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Re: Okay. I'll entertain that

May 25, 2022, 1:32 PM

The argument against it--which military and police agree with--is that it takes some very serious special training to train someone to kill another person. That's something many teachers don't want. You're also asking them to potentially shoot a student they know--that's a lot different for a soldier or cop. And the chaos of such a moment is overwhelming; trained officers and military discuss how difficult it is for them to learn such operations even without a crowded, chaotic school.

Do you seriously think guns and mentally ill crazies are going to cease to exist, ever? We MUST defend our children, regardless of the costs. Easy decision.

No, I don't think that. But arming teachers won't prevent this.

Basically we would be training a bunch of (mostly) 23-year-old sorority girls to suddenly pack heat and hope a disaster doesn't happen in a school where the kids give two ##### about teachers and authority. Hell, some get attacked by them.

And then there's the old biddies nearing retirement...

Why don't we just allow all the students to keep a sidearm in their backpack? Maybe even let some of them keep an AR strapped across their back?
