The PGA Tour just announced some pretty big changes for

the 2023 season. They are going back to "calendar year" scheduling, meaning the FedEx Cup playoffs, etc, will come later in the year. But, by far, the biggest change is a huge increase in purses for selected "premium" events, like the Arnold Palmer Invitational, and The Memorial Tournament, to name a couple. The average purse increase for the big events looks like going from $12 million total, to $20 million total.
Now, this is no doubt in direct response to the threat of the LIV golf entity. But, unlike the Saudis, this money didn't come from some endless oil fund. For the PGA to suddenly do this, seems to me, the difference will have to be that the various charities that the Tour supports will see less money than in the past. Either that, or the various corporate sponsors are suddenly coughing up an additional ~$100 million dollars. I really can't see that happening, so congratulations, Saudis. Not only are you trying to destroy the PGA Tour, you are hurting established charities on top of that.

Yea people have no idea how much the PGA contributes to charities which is unfortunate. No other sport comes remotely close.

In addition to Americans funding the LIV Tour events based upon years of American & global purchase of Saudi petro from American-built oil wells, American retail investors will now fund an increase in funding PGA Tour purses. These increased purchases will be paid by higher cable/DirecTV bills, higher Proctor Gamble dishwashing fluid, and higher prices from all PGA sponsors, etc. etc. etc. Looks like a he11uva deal for golfers. The PGA may be chapped, but golfers should be thanking LIV to the heavens. No relief in sight for American consumers.
@rhpltmeg is right the PGA Tour is generous with charities, but not with their money. Similar to when you go to any store or restaurant, and they ask "sir or ma'am, would you like to round that up to the nearest dollar for charity?" Then the seller takes credit for your donations, contributes (hopefully all of) your money to the charity, takes available tax write-offs, and corporate officers and their families enjoying free VIP tickets and amenities to the golf events. A lot of good and a lot of corporate showmanship.

Different than IPTAY?
Charity has become big business. From the American Cancer Society to the government using taxpayer money to pay for endless benefits for legal and illegal people who choose NOT to work and live off handouts……
Golf is just getting theirs without striking, like MLB, NBA, and NFL which have ridiculous salaries, where Golf is merit based…..

I’m just saying that money could go 10 different ways but a good portion goes to the sponsors charities. Without the PGA not sure that much money would be going to these charities.

And not to sound political but we have no business buying anything from the Saudis. I would drill as far down as I could offshore or in Alaska and be self sufficient. Reliance on all these other nations will be our downfall I’m afraid.

What separates golf and makes it so intriguing is that the ones who make the really big bucks earn it by their performance on the course not by having one or two great years and signing ridiculously high contracts. Of course they do make some off corporate sponsorships.

Yea golf and tennis both. Both are tough gigs knowing you have to perform to maintain PGA membership. I am not as familiar with how tennis works.
